Eight candidates are running under a predetermined process--some are well known
and others are citizens not involved in government or in any manner with the
Swallow-era mess. With a debate planned tomorrow and speeches and a vote
scheduled for Saturday, meddling in the process by political groups is suspect.
Let all of the candidates be heard! We know too well that power often corrupts.
The ultimate appointee to the A.G. position will find it in his or her best
interest to clean house and to pursue wise policies. The accountability of a
future election is the hallmark of good government.
These two groups would not be satisfied unless Gov. Herbert were to appoint some
radical leftist, and their shrill objections to elected Attorney General Swallow
were ostensibly because he was some sort of evil crook. All along,
it has been clear that their REAL objection is that he was an elected
conservative official, and that displeases them.Governor Herbert
should ignore these fringe elements and exercise his proven sound judgment doing
what he considers best for Utah, and in strict accordance with our laws and
2014. With these fine candidates, and with our current election system, I
believe that would be a mistake to pick a caretaker. We want someone to be AG
that is willing to face the voters next fall.
I am not sure you could find a better slate of candidates if you searched long
and hard. The qualifications of any one of these possible attorney generals
should make the citizens proud that good people would step forward.
All of the men and women that are considering that position are members of the
same professional association, the ABA, or BBA. They all hold titles of nobility
which, according to the Constitution, disqualify them. It's naive to think
that anyone from this treasonous association can or will restore soundness to
this entity of government. We have been warned about this
organization, in both dispensations. The Lord said:"And now
behold, I say unto you, that the foundation of the destruction of this people is
beginning to be laid by the unrighteousness of your lawyers and your
judges." (Alma 10:27)Another time he said: Wo unto you lawyers!
for ye have taken away the key of knowledge; ye entered not in yourselves, and
them that were entering in ye hindred." (Luke 10:52)This is not
meant to berate anyone, but if we are going to take back control of our lives,
we must heed the Lord's warnings and stop thinking that just because men
and women are members of the church that they have the interest of the people at
heart. This isn't always the case, sad as it may be.
