I think Coach Wells has done a vey good job with the program this year. They lost 1-2 more games last year but the team responded after the Keeton injury, won some critical game and has a chance for an outright conference title. Good job Aggie players and coaches!

Great work, Aggies! Here's to a win against Fresno State! Fresno State is not invincible...your destiny is in your hands, best of luck!

It was an epic day in Cache Valley. The weather, defense and special teams were all outstanding. It was a great send off for all of the graduating seniors. The goal this season was always to play for a conference championship. Now the team is only one game away from accomplishing that goal. WELL DONE!!!

Congrats to the Aggies, what a great job coaching after Keeton's injury.

I love this team. Go Aggies! Thanks for a fantastic regular season. And we get two more games!!

I bet at least one or two fans of other schools aren't too happy about this Aggie win, either.

Fresno State has to be concerned about the USU game next week.

Fresno lost to San Jose at San Jose while USU throttled the Spartans on the same field 40-12.
Aggies have the momentum and a great defense. It will be interesting to see what the odd's makers put down on this one.

I really thought the Aggies would struggle to an average season after Chuckie went down, but instead they rose up and won their division. Congrats!

Cougar fan here who will be cheering for the Aggies against Fresno St to win the MWC crown.

  • Chris B Salt Lake City, UT
    Nov. 30, 2013 6:31 p.m.

Winning the MWC is nothing to be proud of or get too excited about. And the MWC now is worse than it was years ago when Utah, TCU, and BYU were part of it.

I just think that Utah State, Utah, and byu should hopefully be past the point where we brag about being better than Wyoming, New Mexico, and UNLV.

Each of these programs should have undefeated seasons, top 10 finishes, BCS(or in the future just big time) bowl game, playoff appearances starting next season.

Any great program has THOSE as the goals. Getting excited about being better than the aforementioned mwc teams is really nothing very special.

There are 30 teams in the nation that would win the MWC.

    @ Chris B.
You do realize Utah State did something that Utah never has done.
Will play in a conference title game.
In fact last year USU won an outright WAC title something the U couldn't do in 33 years.
    LOL

  • Stang08 Southern, UT
    Nov. 30, 2013 7:24 p.m.

Look at the teams USU had to play. While it's true that Chris B's team in SLC hasn't done much since leaving the original MWC, they are the best team in the state. Proof being they beat BOTH USU and BYU. Chris B is wrong however about the old MWC. Even if you weren't a Utah or BYU fan you had to like the conference match ups. Now that Utah is a PAC12, BYU is independent, and TCU is in the bigger and better BIG12, the WAC 2.0 really is nothing. Those teams made the original conference and when they went on to better things(winning or losing doesn't matter) the WAC 2.0 has been nothing but a conference for the big boys to laugh at.

    Great season.

I predicted the Aggies to win the MWC in both football, and basketball.

MWC may be the strongest basketball conference in the west.

  • tinplater scottsdale, AZ
    Nov. 30, 2013 10:14 p.m.

@Chris B…your purpose in life seems to be to downgrade usu and the MWC. Why does that give you pleasure? There may be 30 teams (maybe more) that could win the MWC (but Utah aint one of them!) but what does that have to do with anything? USU is in its conference championship game!! That is what is important. So what if it isn't a major power conference…it is a conference of equals playing competitive football. It is were USU belongs. And ASU soars after sending Erickson to the Utes! You are welcome to him!

  • Sambonethegreat Salt Lake City, UT
    Nov. 30, 2013 10:17 p.m.

There goes Chris trying to conceal his disappointment for the Utes again with thinly veiled jabs.

Competing in the MWC is far better than being a PAC punching bag, Chris. I wonder if your tune will change if the Utes endure another losing season. By the way, nice win over your new "rival." Lol the pillowfight in the Rockies.

  • Chris B Salt Lake City, UT
    Nov. 30, 2013 10:32 p.m.

    Sambone,

That's sad you have so little hope and faith in your program that you would rather beat up on nobodies than put your program in a position to one day truly do something amazing.

Whats it like to be even below the PAC 12 punching bag?

If you are honest with yourself, you know the only PAC 12 team usu could have beaten is Colorado.

If you are admitting usu's ceiling is claiming superiority over nobody teams, congratulations.

Like I said, a small fish in the PAC 12 is bigger than the "big fish" in the WAC little pond.

And yes, Utah would have won the WAC. But we didn't want to. We are above that

  • Jake2010 bountiful, ut
    Nov. 30, 2013 11:37 p.m.

Winning the MWC is nothing to 'be proud of'... Says a man who's team most recently won conference championships were in that very conference... I guess it is only good if it is what you are part of... I'll tell you this much.... There are 3 worst records in the PAC-12... 0-9 California, 1-8 Colorado and 2-7 Utah... That is certainly far worse in the abhorrence category than winning a mid major conference championship. I mean, Chris B... It is time to come down off your high and mighty horse of delusion and give props where props are due. Consider where Utah State was in 1980... Consider where Utah was in 1980... Consider where Utah is TODAY! Consider where Utah State is TODAY! You guys beat the big dogs when you were nothing more than a Utah State of that decade... But now that you are part of it... Even Duke has risen higher than you! Give credit where credit is due and quit hiding behind the curtain of disappointed agression! It is tired and needs to stop by 2016! Or else that loss you suffer when a rivalry is resumed will be nothing but just desserts!

  • Jake2010 bountiful, ut
    Nov. 30, 2013 11:42 p.m.

For years BYU and Utah took their fair share of who the heck are you jabs in college football... Now, Utah State has finally risen to where they were for the 20 years prior to this decade or more of Utah State dominance. They were once in the truly laughable ... I'm not even going to do it... I am not going to knock a conference of former affiliation. That simply isn't classy. To do so is only classless... Not a reflection of the team one cheers for but more of a black eye given to one's self. I give Utah State HUGE props for coming from where they were to where they are even without their star starting quarterback. They took a lemon and made the best tasting lemonade available to them with the ingredients in their pantry. I was worried when Gary left the team that the greatness of 2012 would be gone... New conference, new coach and they are in the championship game against a very formidable FSU team. They can and will win the game if they show up with their A-game! USU Aggies, rise and be proud and just ignore Chris Bitterman!

If I were a coach with a team like USU, I would be so proud of the "never give up" attitude displayed by the Aggies. Let Chris B try and digest how the replacement of head coach Dennis Erickson allowed ASU to skyrocket to success, while his arrival in SLC continued the downward slide of his Utes!! Maybe the Utes will fire Whit and replace with Erickson! Love to see that.

Poor stang08, always trolling the Aggies, while supporting the big boys at SUU, or as I call them a small snack tune up game. Why don't you ask Wisconson Bager's how laughfulable the Aggies were when a missed FG was all that saved them from a home lose, and hiring Gary Anderson soon after was. USC laughed so hard after playing the Aggies, they fired their head coach. The Aggie can play with the bigs boys son. Why do you think BYU won't play the Aggie in the spectrum? Fear! Big enough for you!? SUU student. Lol! Go Big Sky!

For all you USU fans who have waited for so long, good on all of you! You have a team to truly proud of and the sky is the limit with your new coach. What an incredible feat for the hand he was dealt after Chuckie's injury. USU's AD made Avery smart choice in hiring him, and it's obvious that this group of players believe in him, support him, and a Conference Title game and fantastic Bowl selection is about to be their reward.

As a fan of ALL Utah-based colleges, I extend my heartiest congrats to USU for being this year's BEST school in the state, regardless of what anyone else says.

@Chris B silence is golden and can't be quoted...

Chris and stang just like to get everyone worked up. I welcome their comments, makes for some excellent reading. It doesn't make any sense to run down a team from a conference that you yourself were once a part of, and in fact was the (only) place where you had success. And a Big Sky fan poking fun at a mountain west team? Granted the mountain west is not a power conference, but in what world does the big sky compare? It doesn't. The Aggies are moving in the right direction, and those Auburn/Wisconsin/USC type games could easily start to fall into the W column. Utah did it. Boise State's done it. There is no reason why the Aggies can't do it.

The sour grapes of two particular fans on here cracks me up. Their seasons are over, so what do they do? Show some sour grapes.

Glad we're not a PAC punching bag, and who cares about the Big Sky.

  • Chris B Salt Lake City, UT

Sambome, the big sky is to usu fans what the WAC 2.0 is to PAC 12 fans. If usu reverts back to some bad years are you going to start believing its better to be a winning SUU program than a losing WAC usu program?

    Lol!

The only thing worse than being a temporary punching bag is being a firmly worse program than said punching bag.

    @ Chris B:

You genuinely seem to be the overall most negative poster in the sports comment section. I'm not sure why. It seems to be entirely against your nature to be happy for any in-state team besides the Utes when they accomplish something that 98% of sports fans feel is quite impressive... including myself.

Not many people gave much chance to the Aggies after Keeton went down for the season. I'm truly impressed, as are a lot of my fellow hard-core BYU fans. We will pulling hard for the Aggies next week. And we will be proud of them regardless of the outcome.

We will be truly grateful if you would leave your negativeness home next time... for once.

    GO AGGIES!

  • Tators Hyrum, UT
    Dec. 1, 2013 3:27 p.m.

    @ Stang08:

You seem to be somewhat mixed up. If you want to refer to the Utes as the best team in the state, you'll have to go find a gymnastics article.

Though the Utes are a decent team, there is not a single national college fotball poll or ranking service in the entire country that currently has the Utes as the best football team in the state. None! That only exists in the never-never stray place of your and Chris B'd minds. But you haven't convinced anyone else yet. Nor are you likely to as the Utes sit home again for the holidays.

I was happy to see the Ute seniors finish their careers with a win. But not nearly as happy as I am for the Aggies winning their division of the MWC in their first year of membership. And even more proud of them for being able to do it without Chuckie Keeton.

    Go Aggies!
    Fo Cougars!

  • Tators Hyrum, UT
    Dec. 1, 2013 3:46 p.m.

    @ Chris B:

You are proving yourself to be one Ute-promoting losers of all time!

The Yes fell flat in the 2nd half of their season... And even worse, making you look very bad by not coming thru with tour absolutely guaranteed wins. That put you and Obama in the same boat with your "Period" statements. Ouch! That truly had to hurt. But you did it to yourself. So don't come online here and try to downplay the Aggies in an ill-advised attempt to make yourself feel better.

You are who you are and the Utes are who they are. Better luck to both of you next year as your season is now over. Why not now cast aside your ultra-biases and pull for the other teams in the state who are still playing. I guarantee you would be better liked. Not a bad idea since you and Obama currently poll about the same.

  • Tators Hyrum, UT
    Dec. 1, 2013 3:55 p.m.

    @ Black and White:

I'm a big Aggie fan and very proud of them for their impressive accomplishments this season. Its nice that you are too. But to now claim they are the best team in the state has cost you credibility.

Not a single poll or ranking service in the entire country backs that up. Plus, Weber State was the only in-state team they beat. On top of that, BYU beat them quite impressively... in Logan no less.

Let's enjoy this positive Aggie moment without getting too carried away.

  • Sambonethegreat Salt Lake City, UT
    Dec. 1, 2013 4:23 p.m.

    @Chris

If being a "firmly worse" program than U means going to three bowl games in a row and having the respect of my conference mates, I'll gladly take it.

No real PAC program respects U, and why should they? One upset win in three years won't strike fear into USC, ASU, Oregon or Washington. When is the last time U beat any of those teams? At its core, Utah is still a MWC-like program (even if U hate to admit it).

Nice dodge with the Big Sky question. I'm not going to worry about such a scenario if it never comes up. USU has been rebuilt from the ground up in a stable environment.

The difference between USU and U of U is that we joined a conference we absolutely can handle. U on the other hand bit off more than U could chew.

    So own it.

  • A1994 Centerville, UT
    Dec. 1, 2013 8:32 p.m.

Here is what the Aggie naysayers need to remember. This is just the first year in the MWC. After going 11-2 last year, the Aggies lost their head coach. Then early in the season they lost their starting QB along with three other key starters. It's a fantastic accomplishment, no matter what conference you are in, to come in the first year, with a new head coach, a third string QB and a back up RB and still play for the conference championship.

Is the MWC as strong as it has ever been? No. Is it a weak conference? No. This is a big deal and USU, as a football program, is in a very good spot.

  • Stang08 Southern, UT
    Dec. 1, 2013 10:11 p.m.

I love how some people try and critique the BigSky which by the way is the premeire FCS conference. And how others think they are so much better than everyone else that they don't even mention mine or Chris B's name. Hey labeau, you lost all those games like you were supposed to. Your team didn't even believe they could win those games. Guys, my teams season ended yesterday. A couple weeks after it has traditionally ended. So I win again. Keep trying to make yourselves feel better.

I am really surprised that Chris B and Chris Hill haven't taken the rest of the PAC 10 to court for bullying them relentlessly for 3 years now. Enough is enough you big meanies.

  • Waylon77 Logan, UT
    Dec. 2, 2013 10:39 a.m.

Anybody who has been an Aggie fan for longer than 4 years how big a deal this really is. In the past ten years we have gone from being the punching bag of the Sun Belt conference, to joining the WAC, to winning the WAC, to competing for the Mountain West Title. Those are some huge leaps for our or any program.
Five years ago Ute and Cougar fans wouldn't even bother reading our articles or commenting on our boards, now they spend enormous amounts of effort trying to convince themselves and others that we aren't on the same level as them (which I agree with, we aren't quite there yet). Yet when they lose to us its a fluke, and when they beat us its a quality win that bolsters their resume.
We may not have the resources to contend with Utah and BYU year in and year out, but I am convinced that Aggie football has become and will remain a quality product that will continue to garner support and compete at a high level in their arena, now and into the future. And for this Aggie fan that is a pretty special and commendable thing.

I am thrilled about the accomplishments USU has had this year! Just think, starting next year the Mountain West Championship game will more than likely send its winner to a "BCS" type bowl! It won't be USU every year, but the fact that we are there this year makes me think we can get there again. If the program keeps moving in its upward trajectory, Utah State will be competing in BCS bowls in the near future. Things are looking good for the future of Utah State!

  • Stang08 Southern, UT
    Dec. 2, 2013 9:02 p.m.

    @AggiePride

You really think USU can get to a bowl that matters? Are you serious about that? Do you really think people are gonna start taking you serious enough to put you in a bowl like the Sugar, Rose, Fiesta, or Orange? Those are the only real bowls and we all know the aggies will never get put there. Besides the fact that the bowl system isn't a good system to go by. Do it like the FCS ranks does it and put in a playoff system.

  • Northern Logan, UT
    Dec. 3, 2013 4:02 p.m.

    @stang 08

Hahaha, FCS. Will you ever learn?

  • tinplater scottsdale, AZ
    Dec. 3, 2013 4:21 p.m.

Stang0 can't make a comment in anyway appreciative of Aggie success. We are playing in a bowl game that matters...it matters to us! And that is really all that matters. Let me know when SUU wins a "meaningful" playoff game.

  • Stang08 Southern, UT
    Dec. 3, 2013 5:20 p.m.

    @Northern

First off it's Stang08 not stang 08. Learn what? Are you trying to tell me the flawed BCS bowl system is better then a playoff system? Where you would have a true champion decided on the feild as apposed to someone voting on who should be in the National Title game. Put in a playoff system where you would have a top seed like Wisc, Auburn, Ohio State and so on against a mid to low seed like USU. Granted that wouldn't be a fair game because USU would be beat down. Then you can decide a true National Champion. So I ask again, Learn what? Making it to the playoffs where a true champion can be named is an accomplishment. Espcially for a school who 3-5 years ago couldn't even imagine what a playoff game looked like. The FCS does things right. The FBS and BCS could learn a thing or two.

  • tinplater scottsdale, AZ
    Dec. 4, 2013 10:25 a.m.

Stang0 you don't view it as an accomplishment when USU makes it to the NCAA tournament in Basketball, but for some reason SUU's brief moment, losing half a hundred to twenty, is an accomplishment for you. If USU gets to the NCAA tournament, I expect you to congratulate them on their accomplishment.

  • Stang08 Southern, UT
    Dec. 4, 2013 11:07 a.m.

    @tinplater

Again it's Stang08 not Stang0. I don't know if you are being funny but that is my name. The reason I don't is because they get beat every year. You would think with that much experience they would win a first round game. It was their first appearence in the playoffs against a team that has made it to the National Title the past two straight years. I'm guessing you wear Thunderbird red under that Aggie blue of yours as a secret. You can expect into one hand and scoop snow into the other and we'll see which one fill up first. I hope everyone can see this.

  • tinplater scottsdale, AZ
    Dec. 4, 2013 11:23 a.m.

So Stang0, I guess if SUU makes into the playoffs each year, but loses first round you will belittle their accomplishment? As to losing to a team that was good last year means nothing as it is this year, and that was an at large team, not even good enough to get into the tournament on its record in conference alone (and SH selection was controversail at that). And of course it wasn't in the "premier" Big Sky conference! If losing to a team this year that was good last year flies, then USU beating Utah last year is just as valid...which it is not. Live in the present.

  • Stang08 Southern, UT
    Dec. 4, 2013 4:14 p.m.

I never said that. Did those words come out of my mouth? Just making it is an accomplishment but you have enough experience in the first round to win. You know for someone who belittles the FCS ranks you sure know alot about them. Ok I will. We lost in our first playoff game because we don't have the expereince we need to shine on the big stage. Since we are talking about football, how did it feel to lose to Utah again, BYU again and USC? Please show your true colors and I'll see you next year at Eccles Collusium. Don't avoid my question because as you can see I have answered everyone of yours.
