I could possibly understand using a percentage to help fund the administration
of the scholarship office but to do what UCLA is doing using the money to help
fund the overall operation is deceitful at best. What do the different colleges
and universities in Utah do with their scholarship donations?
More and more higher education is nothing more than a get rich scheme for those
running the show. They are a new class of robber-barons for today.
A very disappointing trend. This is a device that donors should reject, making
grants through institutions that award scholarships that benefit only students.
This is an insulting and criminal act that should be punished as a theft and
breach of contract obligation that violate every kind of trust people place in
the education system. Education is in high risk failure mode and those who have
put funds in trust should be appalled at this robbery.Theft of money
in trust is a crime, and it should be treated as a crime by the law to those who
are stealing from it. The schools have volunteered and docmented themselves as
trustees without compensation and should be punished. The schools compensation
is the trusts funds given as allocated per student, not because of school
financial mismanagement and fraud.All interest and gains of a trust
are the property of the trust and the schools are not allowed management fees
they are receiving as student scholarships. Its like charging students tax on
the school fees they pay to the schools.
The biggest question is why the cost of tuition continues to rise at far greater
than the rate of inflation. I graduated from my university 20 years ago. One
of my employees is graduating this year. Same program. She is paying 4 times
as much for tuition as I did. Why has it gone so high. Pay in my profession
has roughly doubled in the same period of time. That money is going somewhere,
but the question is where. I would bet that the professors are not making 4
times as much as they were back then. I think we need some accountability in
holding the price down. Unfortunately, many universities become their own
little insular universes and no one is answerable to the public.
re. RBB. Take a look at teacher/professor teaching loads. The time they actually
spend teaching is just a few hours a week. The rest of the time, who knows what
they are doing. I remember taking a graduate class in the Ed. Dept at BYU and
each of the students made a presentation which consumed nearly every class that
semester. The teacher just assigned the topics and sat back an listened.
