Doesn't this mean we are being taxed too much?
I don't suppose WE (the taxpayers) are entitled to have it back are we?Never mind - I forgot, once the government has it, its gone FOREVER!
It always ceases to amaze me when people talk about education and the budget and
the discussion turns to taxes. Who else is supposed to pay for Public Ed if not
the people? Someone paid for your education when you went to school. It is what
educated societies do. With the increase in student population whether we like
it or not students need an education. I have 38 students in my classes! It
takes money to reduce class sizes. Which by the way is the second most
compelling factor in raising student achievement! I am so glad Herbert is a
supporter of Education. Without an educated and trained work force our taxes
would go up! Supply and Demand and simple Economics. Obviously many have never
lived outside of Utah and have no idea what $13,0000 a year in property taxes
looks like verses $ 3,0000 Which is why more people are moving to Utah. If you
don't want to pay taxes you are not living in reality! Local and State I am
fine with-Now Federal that is a whole other issue which is where the majority of
our income goes. Complain to you Federal Senator not the Governor!
To bad education isn't as important as roads. We seem to feel a need to
find new revenue for roads, but not for our children. Loved this quote, "It
makes it so those people who are actually using the roads are the ones who
pay." Could we apply that to education and maybe adopt Pat Jones bill to
cut some of the tax break given to large families, since they are the ones
"that use the education system". Makes a lot more sense than them
paying less for education than a person with no children.
How about paying State Employees more? The State took away benefits with the
promise we would receive compensation. It's never happened.
Just goes to prove that the lack of money isn't the real problem with
Utah's poor ecudation. It's greed and a lack of committment
by the legislature.
@ LDS Liberal "Doesn't this mean we are being taxed too much?"@ Samuel the Liberalite "Just goes to prove that the lack of money
isn't the real problem with Utah's poor ecudation (education).
It's greed and a lack of committment by the legislature."I
would agree with your first statement, but the second is in complete opposite of
the first. Your second argument is we should be taxed more for education. You
need to sync up your online personalities. Generally your writing and pros
styles are recognizable over the eight or so usernames. I feel the
surpluses should be returned to the tax payers. If the legislature wishes to
spend money then let them be up front with the legislature to raise taxes to
fund specific items. No more of this we found money nobody will notice we spent
maybe we could build some schools. my fellow jordan district went cheap. voted
no. we need to keep building schools and maintain them or we should only have
enough chilren to fill them. i was willing to pay more tax. at least when you
build a school you see something for your taxes. you dont see a lot by our state
leaders that can be seen in utah. the flood tax never came off beer. they do
more for bussiness than for the average utah person.
Ah, isn't that great! More money to SPEND.
