WOW! What a start. I guess I would have to root for Bingham because my dad graduated from there in 1949 and my grandpa graduated from there in 1922.
Both of them were on the school's baseball team.

Schultz may have the worst hands I've seen for the "best tight end in America." Two games in a row he's dropped easy balls to give the other team life.

7 min to go in 4Qtr...down by 2 1/2 scores and Brighton throws in the towel and punts. You know with that backup QB in that cant throw for Bingham they were going to run it and run clock.

glad the Brighton staff wanted to keep it "closer" instead of trying to win it and punted.

    What a joke.

    congrats to Bingham.

Great game. Congratulations to Bingham on the title. Congratulations to Brighton on a fantastic season.

Both 5A and 4A produced some amazing football this season. Can't wait until next year.

I guess this game, and this day can put to rest who the best team in the state is, and which team has the best O-Line in the state! Bingham with a dominating O-Line, and defensive performance!

I think that statement about best team was made when the starting quarterback went out, it shows what a team truly is. It is not one individual star, it is not a bunch of stars placed on one team, it is a collective synergy of will, desire, and effort by an ENTIRE team!!

Congratulations to the Bingham Miners on a perfect season!!

Bingham definitely deserves to be called the best team in Utah. I would love to see Timpview and East play the Miners. East might be too one-dimensional on offense to beat Bingham. IMO Timpview is as good as Bingham right now, but their loss to PG early in the season means the T-birds are #2 in the state. Congrats, Miners!!

I'd love to see a 4A vs 5A game as well. Seems like such a no brainer from a financial point of view if nothing else. The turn out would be massive and the profit from ticket sales alone would do both schools some good. They could also put it up for charity or something since it would fall within the holiday season. Oh well.

I am also okay leaving it as is. I cheer for both 4A and 5A anyway. Ultimately I'm a Skyline fan, but I love watching Bingham, and Timpview as well. Someday I hope to see Skyline return to glory. The late 90s team was legendary.

Husker1, Timpview lost before Covey took over at QB. After watching him dismantle a decent Salem team, I knew he was something special. Not a better playmaker in the State. It would be great to see a Bingham vs Timpview true STATE championship game.

    fact check

It was the 2006 team that went 14-0, not the 2010 team. The 2010 team was only 13-0 because the financial backing for a match-up with an out-of-state team at Rio Tinto Stadium fell through at the last second.

One word to define the best team in Utah.... UNDEFEATED. Bingham is defiantly #1 2013 State Champs no question there. Good game Brighton, you guys have some of the most faithful fans. Nobody on the Brighton stands left early and they were loader than us!!! Brighton will be pretty solid next season. I love and miss high school football. Thank you Bingham for an unbelievable season. MiNERS RUN UTAH FOOTBALL!

Great performance by Bingham. How big was that when Bingham comes out in the second half without it's starting QB and runs a nine-minute drive, even if they only got a field goal. It turned the momentum and put all the pressure back on Brighton.

Huge props to the offensive line. Brighton knew that Bingham was just going to run the ball at them in the second half and they couldn't do anything to stop it. Best O-line in the state. Outstanding defense gave up only 1 TD on a short drive following a turnover. This against a team that led 5A in scoring ppg, well, before this game anyway.

    Gritty running by Scott Nichols.

Congrats to the team and to Coach Peck and his staff on an outstanding year!

UtahBruin: I don't know what you call 4 championships in 7 years. I'd say that's close to dynasty level in my book. I think this game answered the question of who has the best O line in the state. The 2nd half, Brighton knew Bingham was going to run the ball, and put 8 guys in the box. Still couldn't stop the run. That's the line saying put it on our backs! So good to be a Miner! Great job boys!

I had hoped that with the East loss and the Bingham win, the questions would end about who is the best team in the state. It's clearly Bingham, period. Bingham was #1 in the entire state from wire-to-wire. They proved their mettle one game at a time and NEVER faltered. East couldn’t beat Timpview, which couldn’t beat PG, which couldn’t get to RES in the 5A. Can we please let it die!

Against the other seven teams to reach the 5A final 8, Bingham went 7-0, beating #2 Brighton twice, semi-finalists Jordan and Lone Peak, and then Alta, Riverton and Herriman. They already are the undefeated TRUE state champion.

Bingham also beat Valor Christian which is 11-1 (only loss to Bingham) on their turf and VC will play tomorrow for Colorado’s 5A title.

I can’t help but wonder if the 4A fans in Colorado do the same thing as the Utah 4A fans.

Great Game Bingham. Coach Peck deserves an atta boy for the consistent and successful program he has helped build. The Bingham kids came out and dominated on both sides of the ball. Brighton hold your heads up. You hung in there with a top 25 team.

Since 2006 (last 8 seasons), Bingham is 95-12. 24-4 in play-off games. 8 appearances in the quarterfinals (actually been there for 10 straight years). 7 semi-final appearances. 5 finals appearances. And 4 state championships.

What do you consider a dynasty?

Great win Bingham, coaches and players all did what it takes to go undefeated. Great season like this is the result of much hard work that start the day after they lost last year. Coach Peck knows how to build a great program, it starts with all the off season efforts and camps he does.

Brighton should be happy with their effort this year. You should be back next year in the Championship.

    I disagree with you!

Shultz is the not the #1 TE in the Nation, because of his hands it is because he is the best blocking TE and the most unselfing player I have seen in Utah. He did drop a few balls this year, yet watch his film and count haw many pancake blocks he got this year; off the charts. This is why Bingham is so good, so many unselfish roll player, this is coach Peck style. I agree with the scouts Schultz is the # 1 TE in the nation.

    4A and 5A fan here-

Timpview would beat Bingham IMO. Better schemes. Bingham couldn't just overpower them with the run game, and they cant throw it well enough against a Tbird nasty D.
Bingham would keep it close because of their defense but I would see a 28-21 game. TV averaged what 49 a game? So 28 about right.

Congrats to Bingham. BTW Razor- PG barely beat Tview but that was because they had a different kid at QB- Since Covey took over team never was challenged. TV easily beat Alta where you barely squeeked by. Covey is faster than any kid on Bingham. You expect a 250 lb lineman to catch him? Ask East who is bigger than Bingham how that went....

Bingham just played for the State Championship game against a team loaded with D1 talent without their QB and still rolled. So I just don't see how Timpview not having their QB for the Pleasant Grove game as a legitimate excuse for Timpview being better than Bingham.

I love how people keep trying to use the final scores of the Alta game as a good comparison. It was a game that had no effect on the already decided region championship one that Bingham didn't bother preparing for and still came out and rolled 23-0 in the 2nd half.

When you're a school that actually have an enrollment of 2000+ (4A schools are under 1200) you're 250 lb boys run fast too.

I am so sick of the Inferiority Complex of these 4A fans fans here on this site.

It would be interesting to see Timpview and Bingham play. I think that Timpview would have the upper hand in that one. They wouldn't be able to push Timpview around like they did Brighton. Brighton is undersized on the D line.

    @adwight
How many balls have you caught in a 5A state championship game? yeah thought so.

Bingham would smoke Timpview by 30 just like everyone else, would Timpview stop Scottie Nichols? not a snowballs chance, and I'm a huge Timpview fan as well.

  • razorback South Jordan, UT
    Nov. 23, 2013 10:30 a.m.

More tunnelvision out there. See only what you want to see and bring up only that which defends your point of view.

Yes, TV beat Alta by 13, and Bingham won by only 3. Anyone who watched the Bingham-Alta game knows that Bingham was sleep-walking in the first half, but dominated Alta 23-0 in the second half. It was clearly the worst half of football that Bingham played this year and they came out in the second half and proved the 1st half was just a fluke.

Since it doesn't support your POV, you don't bring up the Lone Peak games. In game #8 on their schedule and on their home turf, TV (with their star QB) led LP only 15-6 after three quarters although they eventually won 29-6. On neutral grounds, Bingham slaughtered LP 42-6 through three quarters and played even with LP in the fourth quarter using back-ups on offense and defense.

Timpview gives up 187 points while playing a schedule loaded with weak 4A teams, and Bingham yields only 194 points (7-0 against best of the rest 5A), but you say TV has the "NastyD".

    What gives?

  • jarka-rus Layton, Utah
    Nov. 23, 2013 10:31 a.m.

    @UtahBruin,
Bingham left no doubt who runs the 5A, Scottie Nichols is the #1 RB in the state!! takes 4-5 guys to tackle him and he's half the size of Osa. Great game!! 4 rings in 8 yrs isnt a dynasty?? Where's your team at in that column? I've seen Bingham in Coach Pecks first years of coaching and there nowhere near the program or dynasty they are now. It's great to be a Miner Dynasty!!

  • UT Sports Salt Lake City, UT
    Nov. 23, 2013 10:32 a.m.

Timpview was 2-1 against 5A teams this year. Bingham was 14-0 against 5A teams.
I keep seeing comments about how Covey wasn't playing during the PG loss, well Bingham had a FIRST YEAR quarterback leading it's offense. Don't forget that the quarterback went down right before halftime last night, but yet Bingham still outscored Brighton 17-0 in the second half.
Timpview has a great player (just like Logan), but they lost without him. Bingham loses their quarterback and they win in the State Championship game, that shows a great TEAM!
Regardless of any of your opinions the fact remains that Bingham took State and was UNDEFEATED! That alone proves that they are the best team in the state.
If you are going to offer your "opinion" back it up with some facts.
But just remember Timpview fans, you lost to PG!

  • Gunner South Jordan, UT
    Nov. 23, 2013 12:51 p.m.

When Timpview goes undefeated, then they can claim to possibly be the best team in the state. Until then, SCOREBOARD! That right belongs to The Miners of Bingham! 14-0!

Watched most of the Timpview/East game yesterday and was impressed with Covey's skills. But sorry he wouldn't last 5 minutes in a game against Bingham's D. The hit they put on Brighton's QB when he fumbled would have snapped Covey in half.

  • gman33 provo, UT
    Nov. 23, 2013 6:12 p.m.

You have to catch covey first... There is reason covey doesnt take hits like that.. No one can catch him. East's giant D line is going to have nightmares of almost sacking that kid. Its impossible to say who would win the Bingham/Timpview game. Timpview does have a weak region, but thats why you cant look at their team season stats. 4 or 5 games this year their varsity didnt even play the entire second half! Both are great teams and have a chance to beat each other. Both teams have multiple D1 prospects. Timpviews front seven is as good as it gets high school. 5 D1 prospects! ( ask East how good they are) I will say timpview has won 7 State Championships in the last 10 years. Say what you want. Thats INCREDIBLE.

  • Gunner South Jordan, UT
    Nov. 23, 2013 7:14 p.m.

How did East put up 28 points if the front 7 is so good? Brighton averaged the highest points in 5A this year at 41 pts per game. Bingham held them to 6. The other TD came on a pick 6. Again, undefeated and State Champs says all I need to know as to who the best team in the state is.

I'm pretty sure Desert Hills could beat Timpview and East. But IMO if Desert Hills, Timpview and East all combined to make one team, Bingham would still smash all three by at least 20 TD's.... But that's just me haha. Everybody likes talking about things that will never happen. All hail the all mighty Miners.

Ok i loved the way Timpview played East, a great gameplan and just smart plays all around!

Congrats to Timpview, they are a DYNASTY, if you dont believe me, 06, 07, 08, 09, 12, 13 um 6 titles in 8 years is not bad so not saying anything against Timpview, they will not play bingham ever so we all should stop talking!

To all the people who think Timpview could beat Bingham I just cant see it, I loved Covey, but he wouldnt do that against the faster Bingham LBs !

Bingham is now #12 on maxpreps!
    #20 on USA Today

They beat the Defending 5A champs of Colorado last year, and this year at there place, that team is 13-1 and playing next saturday for the 5A state championship again! valor christian

That team averages 52.3 points a game, vs Bingham at home, 21!

Binghams Defense is the best and most aggressive in state, there FRront 7 won them the title!
They rushed for over 3,000 yards this year on Offense, 1900 from Nichols and 45 TDS

Binghams coaching is the best, and I think they win 2 more in the next 5 years!
    Go Miners

If Shultz isn't a top TE because he dropped ONE pass in the 5A state championship, then Osa Masina is not a top RB being held to 53 yds at Bingham and no TD's in the 5A championship game.

  • T-birds to win Provo / Utah, UT
    Nov. 28, 2013 10:12 a.m.

Razorback, when Timpview played Alta the score was 37 to 14 when Isaiah Naccua got in an altercation with an Alta player and was warned so the coach pulled him out for that series and Alta scored, before that Alta couldn't even get a first down. And in the start of the 4th Timpview pulled the starters on both offense, and defense. Then Timpviews backups scored, and Alta scored 42 to 28 final Lone peaks only score against Timpview was a kick off returned for a touchdown. And as you said anyone can have a down game. Bingham's best win was against Valor Christian, and Timpviews was against East, both quality wins. But for Jackarus to say Bingham would roll Timpview by 30 is just Ignorance! I believe either one of Timpview or East would give Bingham a close game like the Valor game as both of those teams can match Bingham in size, speed, and athleticism. I also believe all three would have beat Brighton pretty easily. They are clearly the three best in the state.
