First of all, Olympus did not eject the Logan quarterback. He did that
himself.Second point: I would like to have seen this game with the right
call on the muffed punt. I hate to have "what ifs" in games. This team
accomplished a lot as an underdog the whole season. It's a great group of
kids. I am proud to say I'm an Oly fan. I have always been a high school
sports fan and wish the best to East. I knew Grant Martin and what his legacy
was at East. He must be proud looking down and seeing what his grandson is doing
at East. Coach Whitehead is adding to the Olympus legacy. I
don't believe in hiding behind a "screen name".
Would they have accomplished less if they would've had to go through Logan
High, whose QB was ejected on a ticky-tack infraction?
Sorry to say but Logan loses that game by a lot more than Olympus did.
Logan's defense isn't as good as the Titan's. They held
East's offense to its lowest scoring total all season, 26 points, 19 of
wich didn't come until the second half. Anyone that saw this game knows
that it was a lot closer than the score showed. A bad call by the officials and
two big mistakes by Oly's offense and this game is a lot closer. Not to
take anything away from what East did because their defense shut down the Titans
in the second half until that last big run late in the fourth quarter, and their
offense showed up when they needed to. It was a great game to watch. Good luck
to East and Timpview both in the Championship Game.
@The53 "Logan loses that game by a lot more than Olympus did" - That is
quite a stretch. Oly's defense might be a little better than Logan's,
but their offense is a lot better. Plus, their offense matches better to
East's weaknesses. I think it would have came down to who made the least
mistakes and who built the most momentum. Last year Logan didn't seem to
have much trouble with East and this year's team was better.Having said that, I don't think it would have been right for the UHSAA to
reverse the call and I am glad Oly got to go out and show that they were
underrated and had a lot of heart. Too bad on the call. With the momentum shift
it might have added up to a game that was closer by 14 point (21 is a stretch,
but possible). I would have loved to see an Oly, WX matchup.
I'm not saying Logan would have beat East, (I think they had a chance)
But probably not. Anyways they would have beat Olympus 45 to 10,
Olympus's offense only scored one touchdown vs Logan's defense, then
pick 6 and field goal and tochdown were from the backup qb's inside the 20
interceptions. Wish we could have had the real semifinal game of Logan vs
East. Was not to be.
btgroupman, you may not be saying it, but I am. Logan would have went all the
way, but I think Logan should be out.
@mab93 - I don't think it's a stretch. Logan's offense was very
good with Nelson, but their Achilles heel wasn't at QB. The reason Oly was
able to get 4 pics is because of the pressure they were able to get on the QB. I
am pretty sure that was the same O-line that would have played with Nelson in.
The Oly defense had 9 sacks to go along with those 4 interceptions. The QB had
pressure all day. Unless Logan were able to get a new O-line in one week,
East's fast and physical D-line and linebackers would have had their way
with Nelson. Logan's team may have been better than last year but so is
@The53 With most other programs the O-line makes or breaks the offense. Jordan
is a perfect example. But the real Achilles' heel of Logan revolves around
the quarterback. East compensates for a weaker pass defense with a strong pass
rush. Logan compensates for a strong pass rush with quick accurate passes. If it
was just about any other team than Logan I would agree with you. Logan QBs
probably handle a strong pass rush better than any other Utah team. Last year
they didn't have a super O-line and East had a great pass rush. Time and
time again the QB would get the ball to the receiver just before they could
tackle him. Before last years game everyone thought East would crush them but
Logan rolled over them. Saying it would be a close game is saying East improved
more than Logan. IMO it is much more of a stretch to say they lose by a lot more
than Oly than it is to say it could go either way.
