This is going to sound harsh but... the people who can actually STOP child
trafficking are the parents and the child. You need to keep the child in the
home if you are going to protect them against being exploited by people on the
street. The State really can't stop it.That said... I agree
with the observation that, "Utah lacks a protective response to minor
victims that treats them as victims and not as criminals".A
runaway sees police as the enemy (because and if they get caught they will
probably get returned to the home they ran away from). This means they
can't go to the police for help. So they are left with the people on the
street who they trust not tell the police about them (and these are usually the
people who will exploit them). So they actually see their exploiters as their
PROTECTION from the Police, who are supposed to be their protectors. They
actually hide from the police (their protectors), and run to their exploiters
for protection.Parents need to teach their children who to trust and
who NOT to trust (Trust the police... not the guys on the street).
2 Bit, How does one protect the children if the perpetrator is a family
memeber? or the fix it guy that visited one time? How will you protect them from
stalkers on the internet? Home schooling? what if that teacher IS a pedophile?
How will keeping the child at home protect them for this?
galvodog6,This article isn't about "child abuse"...
it's "child trafficking".The one time visitor to your
house can't traffic your child (without your knowledge). Neither can a
teacher at school. Even a guy on the internet can't traffic your child
(as long as you don't let them run away with that guy on the internet). This article is about kids who run away from home and end up getting
caught up in the sex trade and being trafficked as sex slaves.I'm thinking... IF you keep your child at home... nobody's going to
be able to traffic your child as a sex slave UNLESS you let them (or you are the
one doing it). When they run away from home... you aren't as
able to protect them. So do what you can to keep them at home. And don't
make the police the enemy of kids how DO run away from home.
Agreed very much "2 bits" !Another aspect worth thinking
about is, as you know from China that kids just vanish.Any family or
home is prone to that in these days. The question parents should ask is
where is my attention focus, while I am so bussy ?Are your kids the
most valued goal in your life to be protected at all times ?You love more
what goes around, you end up with bad news.
