Logan, first play from scrimmage, pick sixSecond play from scrimmage,
completed pass.Third play from scrimmage, completed pass to the other
team, returned to the 10 yard line.two minutes into the game. Logan
down 13-0. Missing your qb lately? Thanks USHAA, everyone learned a valuable
lesson here, I'm sure.
If Logan has Nelson they blow Olympus out of the water....the O-line could not
block at all and the QB gave them the game with his other pick in the 2nd half.
Thanks UHSAA, now you can have your all SLC final 4 at RES. We all know that it
is rigged anyways!
I love it! I love the fact that they don't let Nelson get away with it
because of the school or his name. I love that Oly won. Now everybody go ask
Nelson why he kicked the kid. And I don't want to hear anything about an
injury. He ran the play fine with no problem, and he got up and walked away
fine with no limping or hobbling. I love it!
Silence from Logan as the hype machine dies.See you next year Logan.
Maybe with a little less hot air from the fans!
First, it's too bad that Logan didn't have all their 1st string on the
field. (I will note that when I watched the play that resulted in Nelson's
ejection, I couldn't see the kick, but since both referees who were right
there both threw their flags immediately and at the same time, it seems they at
least were clear on what they saw.) That being said, the backup QB (didn't
catch his name) played a great 4th quarter, and was moving the ball and getting
the team down the field. (He may have played a great whole game. I only saw
the last part of the 4th.) He knew which end of the football to hold, so it
wasn't like they had to put in another position player to throw the ball.
But it seemed like a pretty even game. I don't know whether Logan would
have beaten Oly with Nelson. It was a good game, came right down to the wire,
and could have gone either way if Logan had completed the pass on that last play
instead of Oly getting the sack. Great game. Go Titans!
Ill be honest. As an East supporter, I wish Nelson could have played. I
believe they would've won and would be playing this week. Tough break for
Logan. Maybe next year, all teams will be able to finish their seasons without
having drama like there has been the past two years. Logan deserves credit for
a Great Season.
Would Nelson have made a difference? Of course, but I think Oly would have
still made a game of it – they gave Logan’s defense plenty to
handle. All the cry baby talk for Nelson demeans an otherwise exciting game
that came down to the wire on a perfect night for football.
@Utahbruinhe didn't kick the kid, he was trying to get himself
free. And what do you mean by letting him not get away with it? Unless in the
first round game he was screaming out vanities and punching other players, I
really doubt he was deserving of an ejection. But, however, he was ejected, So
UHSAA has to suspend him a game. he didn't do anything worthy of an
ejection. It's one of the few reasons why a lot of people absolutely hate
how the UHSAA runs things.
Sorry but I'm Sad to say Logan should've won, and I really wanted them
to win!But... there is NO WAY Olympus WILL BEAT EAST. They do not
that the Strength, nor the skill to put up a good enough fight to even have a
chance at winning. East is a beast. The onlt 2 teams that had a chance at
beating East (If they're at 100%) were Logan and Timpview. Now
that Logan is out of the picture, Timpview is the only one who has enough skill
on their team and enough experience with East in the Play Offs (4* in the last
decade) to be only only team left to actually win state over East.If
East Wins If Timpview WinsEast: 42
Timpview: 34 Timpview: 35 East: 31
@Big U -"I'll be honest. As an East supporter, I wish
Nelson could have played. I believe they would've won and would be playing
this week. Really? As an East supporter wouldn't you want to
play Olympus, seeing as it's coach Aaron Whitehead won three region titles
and went to two state semifinals and racked up a 70% winning percentage from
03-07 as THE COACH OF EAST HIGH?! He made the East program a consistent
competitor and credible this past decade. How soon people forget...
Congrats to Olympus. They took advantage of the situation and did not fold.
Enjoy RES. However to all you Oly fans, Olympus broke off 1 run against
Logan's defense, but otherwise got stuffed. That includes 3 downs with a
minus 5 yards from the 5 yard line after a pick. Logan scored 21 points on
drives with its safety playing quarterback. Good luck next week because you
won't get 17 points handed to you by the UHSAA. I wish you had the
capability to beat East, I really do. The last 3 meetings between Logan and
East, the blogs have predicted East murdering Logan, just like this year. East
is 0 and 3. The excuses flew on these sites after the losses. Hopefully, Oly
can carry on that tradition of an 'unexpected' victory against East.
It was a great game that should be a great learning experience to all teams.
Football is a team sport and every player is important to their team. Everyone
has an assignment and their success is determined by everyone executing their
assignment properly. Nelson's ejection in the Bountiful game was a result
of him, his team-mates and coaches not being able to keep his attitude in check.
A player who obviously was of such importance to his team needs to be kept in
check. He was ejected because of two fouls which were both of an arrogant
nature of "don't touch me - I'm too good". Don't get me
wrong he is good, just needs to keep his attitude in check to really be the
whole package. The UHSAA did nothing wrong - they upheld their rules which were
set and posted - not something they made up when this situation arose. He knew
what he was doing was a risk but was shocked when the punishment was enforced.
Typical Nelson behavior.
@popeye_chollo - we'll never know will we. All everyone knows is that no
state championship for Logan and Favero.
The most unfortunate aspect of this outcome for Logan was that Nelson did this
to himself and let down his teammates. It was he, not the UHSAA, who shoved a
player for his first Personal Foul (which should have served as an adequate
warning to tone down his antics), and it was he, not the UHSAA, who decided to
kick his foot at the Bountiful defender's face which earned him a Flagrant
Personal Foul AND appropriate Ejection.I applaud the UHSAA for
checking all the video evidence provided them (HUDL and Fox 13), discrediting a
physician's bogus letter as irrelevant due to its ridiculous claim and his
personal biased relationship to the family, upholding the two official's
correct calls, and doing the right thing regardless of how unpopular it might
have been in isolated, tunnel-visioned circles.@pleblian, @papi,
@H-Town, and anyone else who defends Nelson, your comments only demean the
efforts, integrity and hardwork of Nelson's teammates, who put everything
they had into this season and deserved the chance to move on -- only to have one
persons selfishness rob them. It also degrades the honest efforts of Olympus who
won fair and square.
As a physician, I looked at the film early Sat morning prior to any additional
evidence or knowledge of the situation. What was so interesting is not that the
foot went forward, but the way it comes back. At first glance, I had to agree
with the officials even though you cannot see any evidence of significant
contact, certainly not contact to the face. But in looking at the film in real
time it became very clear that I wasn't looking at a kick. It looked very
much like a reflex. After about 15 looks, am I 100% sure? No. But I would
easily testify to it in court as a medical expert as being very certain. And
your medical expertise or the UHSAA medical evidence and refutation? None.
That is the problem. I am absolutely disturbed at the unreported information
presented and the assumptions in the previous comment. I am so happy to be done
with the UHSAA. Every player and coach in Utah should be frightened by the
UHSAA and the lack of an appeals process for a suspension during the playoffs.
Black & White,When somebody disqualifies the other team's
best player on a bad call. You do not win fair and square. You just take what
was given. As for disrespecting Nelson's teammates, I think they
have a very different view of your condescending opinion.
A good quarterback should be the driving force on your offense. He
shouldn't BE your offense. Logan even admits that Nelson was 85% of their
offense. I think that is absurd. If losing 1 player is the difference between
being the self proclaimed best team in 4A, to losing in the quarterfinals then
something is wrong. I have said it all year long... Logan was carried. Carried
on the back of a ridiculously easy schedule, and on the back of a excellent QB.
The team deserved to be in the playoffs, but I think this outcome was fitting.
The championship goes to a TEAM, not a player. East, or Timpview will
rightfully take the title this year. Both TEAMS are exceptional.I
can't help but cheer for Olympus as well. The Oly vs Springville ending
Eagle,Every once in a while a player IS the team. Such is the case this
year with Jordan and Kafentzis, Timpview and Covey, Logan and Nelson, Alta and
Lucero, Spanish and Money... Blah blah blah. Such is NOT the case with East...
Or Bingham... Or Brighton... Or JD. They could lose 5 studs and still make the
show. However, this is high school football and any of the above QB's
have/had the potential to upset a "team" of athletes. As ridiculous as
it sounds, Nelson at QB and Olympus loses by 21... And has a strong chance
against East. As it stands, East will slaughter Olympus by 28. The Cinderella
team had one of the weakest schedules in 4A, needed an act of God to beat
Springville, then experienced divine intervention before taking the field
against Logan. Storied season... But it's about to turn into a nightmare.
Let's see Eagle78. Chase throws the ball and then sprints and catches it.
He runs and the opposing defense parts. His gaze from the sideline kept
Olympus to 189 yards of total offense. Logan is a large 3A sized school
(especially when the alternative High School is removed from UHSAA numbers). It
doesn't recruit. It takes all kids, many who may not make other
schools' teams as freshmen, coaches them, encourages 4 years of hard work
and turns out winners. Please don't dis that effort. Remember, no Oline,
no Chase. Yes, opposing coaches worried about how in the world to stop Chase.
But they also wondered about how to stop state record holder Taylor Compton, or
negate Hartman Rector or stop Chad Artist deep, both of whom will play
Saturdays. The coaches changed their blocking to double and triple team Sam
Bennion while still accounting for the blitz. Congratulate Olympus, but
don't trash talk a team that puts the ball in the hands of its best athlete
and wins. East has got to have mixed emotions. Logan has been an East slayer
and getting the monkey off its back would be nice. But then, Logan might have
Hawaii, You are wrong again about Timpview, although Covey is a great playmaker
on the offense for Timpview, it is their Defense that is their strong point. and
most of their defensive players would be starters for East if they played for
them also. They are the number one defense in 4A and according to Max Preps
their strength of schedule is tougher than East. A lot of the points scored
against them this year was against the second string, East will find out that
Timpview doesn't give up points as easily as a lot of the teams East has
played. about 9 of the players on the Timpview defense were starters on the
championship team last year, and one of the new commers is Isaih Nacua, an ESPN
300 Recruit. Ya they have a good defense.
East vs Timpview for the championship, mark it down.it very well
could be a classic
Congratulations to Olympus for winning the competition of "Next team to get
trounced by East." I actually went to Olympus and I enjoy watching us beat
anyone in basketball, but East has more Division-1 football players on their
team than Olympus has impact players at the high school level. Stronger, faster,
better is a pretty apt way to describe how East compares to Oly. Can't wait
for basketball season, though!
