U.S. students make small gains in reading and mathematics

    The US would need to make drastic changes in its education system to catch up to other nations. It would also require a greater commitment from parents, educators and students. Its hard to compete with countries that have more seat time instruction and higher individual accountability. In the Philippines students spend 210 days in school compared to 180 we have in Utah. Even the higher education system there is more demanding requiring full-time study (typically 9 hours or more daily six days a week).
