Yes, we certainly do need immigration reform. But, we actually need
reforms that focus on border security enforcement, cracking down on those who
employ illegals, and those who have broken our laws and are here illegally. We do not need, and cannot afford any sort of amnesty, or path to
citizenship. There are existing paths to citizenship, and we should welcome all
who obey the law and take the legal path, not reward those who break our
laws.If amnesty is granted then the very real question is- "Why
should any U.S. citizen ever obey any law if we do not require everyone to obey
all our laws?"
Remember the 20 million Americans looking for full time work. Please
stop telling us that there is a skills shortage. It is honesty that is in short
supply in America.
Amnesty is an absolutely insane idea at a time when so many American citizens
are out of work. In Utah alone there are thousands of veterans out of work yet
the business owners could care less about them and would rather hire an illegal
for a myriad of reasons. How unjust is that? The veterans go off and fight for
this nation and enable the business owners to retain their freedom and their
businesses but then would rather hire some illegal. It's not the enemy
overseas we should be worried about but the local business owners who are
'stabbing every veteran in the back' that we should be worried about.
Not all business owners are doing that but there is a very large coalition of
business owners in Utah pressing for amnesty now. Making something
'legal' to accomplish some progressive / socialistic goal does not
make it right. Shame on all of you that support amnesty in any form.
The GOP platform speaks for conservatives.I clearly states NO AMNESTY. Do
not reward illegal behavior. These people going to Washington on this trip
claim to be the true conservatives. That's not true.Look at who they
are. The Chamber, Farm Bureau, manufacturers, politicians...they all have a
vested interest in amnesty - cheap labor and pandering to Latino voters.Don't let these people tell you they are the true conservatives. They are
not! They care only about themselves, not the future of America.
Conservatives by whose standard...the liberal John McCain RINO standard? These
pro amnesty folks are about as conservative as Stalin, Obama, Putin Mao, and
Let's see. These folks want skilled labor and farm workers. Kind of two
ends of the workforce spectrum. What group do you suppose they want here most?
We already have some unemployed workers that could be working in manufacturing
jobs. And we must have a whole lot of unemployed agricutlural workers amoung
the 11 million undocumented already here. Why do we need more? Let's take
from the group already here and needing a job. What is really behind this push
for new immigrants?
"happy2bhere" I'll take that question.Lobbyists for
the amnesty movement are being paid BIG BUCKS to secure cheaper labor for the
business movement who welcome illegal trespassers with open arms! Never mind
that the real cost of these illegal trespassers is really paid for by the rest
of us. Things like WIC, healthcare, education, food stamps, etc. are paid by
the LEGAL citizens. At first it was just the issue of amnesty for
"lower-waged, unskilled workers". When the high-tech companies saw how
much money the farmers and homebuilders were saving by paying lobbyists rather
than decent wages; the high-tech companies got on the bandwagon also. Its' MUCH cheaper to pay a citizen of India 30k per year than to pay the
realistic wages prevalent in high tech industries. (Many commenters here have
written in with examples of them being laidoff/replaced by a foreign national at
one-half to one-third the PREVAILING wage.)It really comes down to a
scam by unscrupulous/unethical employers to line their pockets at the expense of
the American public. The issue makes absolutely no sense with our
already high unemployment!Unfortunately, the lobbyists have mega $$$
to influence Congress!!
