Can't wait. I'm so conflicted as a current Badger but die-hard Cougar... win-win but I'll still be routing for the Cougars.

Glad that BYU will have a chance to heal up for the next game. Could not have asked for a better time to have a bye week.
Hope that BYU can win the next two if not win out the rest of the season, it has been a blast.
I do think next year will be a special year for BYU, that this year is the stepping stone for a great year.

Y has won 5 in a row & w over Texas, should b ranked, guess they'll have to beat Wisconsin, and ND to force voters to put them in.

  • patriot Cedar Hills, UT
    Oct. 27, 2013 9:41 p.m.

wins on the road against Wisconsin and ND would really open some eyes for the Y.No easy task for sure but these BIG 10 schools actually match better for the Y than schools with speed like Florida State.

It'll be interesting to see where the odds makers put this one. I'd give the Badgers a slight edge but only because they have home field. I think the Cougs have a real chance of winning, which I wouldn't have said a month ago.

Wisconsin's strength is their smash mouth running game, but BYU's front seven should be able to slow them down. On the other side of the ball, will the Badgers be able slow the Cougs high powered offense with a perfect blend of run and pass?

A win in Wisconsin would be sweet, and I think it's a real possibility!

BYU, Wisconsin and Notre Dame are fairly close to one another in performance this year. The outcome will largely be a matter of will. As technical and strategic a game as football is, the will to prepare and the will to perform at 100% with belief in a positive outcome is a huge factor in big contests. Gary Anderson will have his troops up for this game, there will be no relaxing by Wisconsin. The question is, and the outcome will depend on, the will and effort BYU brings to the game. BYU needs to play its best games the next two contests.

You know I'm driving down to Camp Randall for this game - can't wait! This is definitely the toughest game remaining on BYU's schedule. I suspect the Badgers will be around a 7 pt favorite. BYU must get Sorenson back and healthy to have a shot at winning - we just don't have enough depth in the secondary to contain Wisconsin's run game without him.

Having said all that, I think the Cougars drop a close one here but will win the rest of their games to finish 9-3 and then add a bowl victory for win #10. The Virginia loss is a tough one but what can you do.

I'd feel a little more confident about this one if Wisconsin didn't have a bye as well to get ready for us. Playing against our 100+ play offense is a difficult task, but having two weeks to get ready makes that task easier. I am very very impressed with the play of Taysom Hill. This kid is very good and going to be great. I wish Anae, was not so concervative with a lead. We need to step on the neck of our opponenets when we have them down; all great programs do. A few more runs off of tackle instead of plunging up the middle would even be a welcome change. And just for the heck of it, I could diagram a WR screen and send it in, or better yet, just watch Oregon.

Give credit where credit is due.
BYU is 6-2 with the 21st ranked schedule (probably the best record a school from Utah has had against this tough of schedule)
9 out of 12 teams BYU will/ or has played will play in a bowl (10 if you include Utah)
Houston, Texas, and Wisconsin could end up in BCS bowl games this year.
No offense BYU has lost to 2 of the worse opponents this year.
    BYU victories (sagarin rankings) Texas-22, GT-33, BSU-38, Houston 40, Utah State 41, MTSU 110
    Utah victories Stanford-7, BYU,24, Utah State 40, Weber 211.
    BYU losses Virginia-86 Utah 39
    Utah losses OSU-34, UCLA 17, USC 31, Arizona 30.
Looking at those rankings BYU has some good victories, and so does Utah.

"We didn't execute" would be a good excuse for the Utes 19-3 loss, if USC wasn't playing their 3rd and 4th stringers as you so boldly pointed out. That Div. South title sure is a tight race! Too bad the Utes won't ever be in it.
It appears the Utes priorities aren't much different than yours. Beating BYU is everything.

At the beginning of the season, I had Wisc. penciled in as a loss and am afraid I haven't changed my mind. I do think it will be a lot closer than I once though. Love to be wrong, however. One of the things in BYU's favor with these big name teams is they tend to overlook our defense-- look at Texas. There's no way Gary Anderson lets that happen for this game. Hopefully, our tough run D stuffs them and our offense can keep them spread out. Wisc. isn't known for passing but I could see Anderson adding at least more mid-range passing with a follow up run. I'll be cheering like crazy but not counting any chicken just yet.

Nice try, but doubtful - BYU has a bye this week.

btw, is Utah even capable of executing anymore with the dumpster fire that the Utes now have at quarterback?

Since the BYU-Utah game (last 5 games):

    Taysom - 106-162, 1455 yds (65.4%), 11 TD, 5 int, 157.11 rating; 440 rushing, 4 TD
    Travis - 77-136, 861 yds, (56.6%), 7 TD, 11 int, 110.61 rating, 98 rushing, 0 TD

This Cougar team lets up when they get ahead. Badly. Reference the 3rd quarter against BSU. (Good win though). That will cost them games at Wisc and ND, then they win out at Nevada. Wisconsin by 17, Notre Dame by 5, BYU over Nevada by 28. KVN leaves college by winning out in his hometown.

I would love to see BYU up against Utah in a bowl game for 2 reasons. One, that Utah gets its mojo back enough to get bowl eligible. Two, there is zero chance they lose to Utah in a bowl game, and the seniors leave with a win against Utah.

"We need to step on the neck of our opponenets [sic] when we have them down; all great programs do."

As much as I would like to see this too, I think Bronco plays it just right. As an independent, you have to schedule quality programs, and you want nothing less than one-for-one games: They have to come to LES. If you gain a reputation for embarrassing teams by running up the score, they won't want to play you in the future. BSU's coach was questioning the long series with the Cougs after this past game, and the score was still respectable. The long game is be gracious to your guests so they will agree to come back after you beat them. Beat them by enough to be convincing, but don't embarrass them.

    Unless it's Utah. ;-)

Taysom is 3-2 versus BCS teams this year; Travis is 1-4.

Taysom is 6-2 versus FBS teams; Travis is only 3-4.

Taysom's team is ranked just out of the Top 25.
    Travis's team isn't even close.

Playing the 21st ranked schedule, Taysom has beaten THREE teams that the Utes have never beaten.

It's blatantly obvious that Taysom is vastly improved since the beginning of the season, while Travis has gotten so bad he'd be replaced, if the Utes had a quality backup to replace him.

"When was the last time byu went 4-0 against Utah?"

4 different spans between 1972 and 1992. (6, 9, and 4 straight runs) Utah won two games in that 20 year period. From 93 to present, Utah is up 14-7 overall and has twice won 4 in a row.

That will swing back to the Y's favor next fall.

Unlike U, BYU's entire season doesn't hinge on one game.

Remind us how many national player of the week awards Travis has won this year.

Taysom is obviously the better quarterback and BYU is obviously the better team at this point in the season, and as usual, BYU will finish the season with a better record and higher ranking than Utah.

    Dude give it a rest...
If beating BYU is all that matters to you, you can have it!
Honestly, this rivalry should be put to an end. Utah is nothing more than a regional opponent who lives and dies by beating a team that has overshadowed them for almost 50 years. We have much more to gain in scheduling National opponents and letting those develop into rivalries over time. And honestly, all the rivalry does is bring out the worst in both fanbases. Enough is enough. Time for both programs to go their separate ways.. BYU will continue to improve and find success in Independence, and Utah will diminish with it's PAC-12 membership.

And seriously, it is so sad that you waste SO MUCH of your time and energy on BYU football comment boards. At the end of the day, you have nothing more than your 4-0 screen names and PAC-12 stickers.Try making some room in your heart and day for something other than hatred.

Yes I am sure that going 0-1 against Utah will not make up for his victories against Texas, Boise St., Georgia Tech and Houston.... NOT!

Let me give my friend Chris a little bit of insight. For every BYU fan that I know, beating Utah is not at the top of our list of priorities. Yes we want to win but it does not define our season.

I would much rather be 6-2 with a loss to Utah than 4-4 with a victory over Utah. That in a nutshell is the difference between the two fan bases.

Article quote: "Danny’s (Sorensen) the best safety that’s played at BYU, in my opinion,” Bills said.

    Nice try, but no dice.

The best Free Safety BYU ever had?

    Kyle Morrel, clas of 1984:

    - 4 yr letterman
    - 3 yr starter (sophomore, junior, senior)
    - Defensive Captain as a senior
    - All-American as a senior
    - NFL 4th round draftee (back when they had 12 rounds...that's like a round 2-3 today)

For those die-hard BYU fans, yes, HE'S the guy that made the mid-air/pre-snap/behind the back tackle on Hawaii's Raphael Cherry that helped preserve BYU's perfect season the year we won the National Championship (1984).

The game last Friday was one that I enjoyed more than any game in last few years. BYU put on a complete game with excellent effort and 'execution'. Anae finally discovered that there are tight ends on the field. BYU is getting better as the season rolls along, I hope. But the next game couldn't be more important for the national discussion. If BYU wins, they'll be spoken of very favorable. If not, then Wisconsin will be the talk. Wouldn't it be great if BYU could become a topic of great conversation in two weeks? I wish the Cougars well. If I say 'please' in caps, the moderators will not allow my post. So, may I say very quetly (so as not to offend desnews), pleeeeez have a great game. shhhh.

Funny, I haven't seen the key to the game mentioned yet: O lines. If Wisconsin's O line beats our D line, it's a tough day for us. And the reverse is probably more important: if our O line can protect Taysom and open holes, we'll be fine, even if Wisconsin scores, since we can score faster. With the Big 10's rep as a bruiser, 3 yards and a cloud of dust conference, it could go either way, but my heart is with the Cougs. Wish the Utes and VA had more wins to make our losses there more respectable.

Not talk last decade lets talk last 2 1/2 seasons.
    2004 and 2008 are irrelevant.
Stanford win though good is also irrelevant if you don't do anything with the season.
Ole Miss beat #7 LSU (Ole Miss is going to a bowl game)
Truth is Utah is becoming much more irrelevant than when they were in the MWC (and I cheer for the utes just being honest)
According to rankings BYU lost to two out of the 4 worst teams they have played (utes included in that)
ESPN fridays announcers said BYU looks like the old BYU and have passed up Boise.
Claim all you want BYU is relevant as the top mid-major
    Utah is not.
And Chris you keep quoting Williams but he chose BYU over offers from Utah and Oregon.

Washington State has a better conference record lol.
Vanderbilt has the same conference record in the SEC (how you are the vandy of the Pac-12 they upset a top 15 team) lol
When was Utah last ranked 2010 before getting blown up at Notre Dame. BYU took a team that went to the National title game to 17-14 last year.
BYU is going to be on network television twice.
Utah has been relegated to the Pac-12 network (whole lotta nobody sees that east of the rockies)

NOBODY cares about Utah's flash in the pan success, and NOBODY cares that you have won 4 straight over a team you claim is irrelevant. Your arguments are baseless and just make you look incompetent. Over Utah's 4-0 sweep, BYU has had the better overall record 2 of the 3 seasons completed, not to mention BYU has gone to and won bowl games in each of those last 3.

And 2008 was a looooong time ago bud. Since 2008 Alabama has won 3 National Championships. Your Utes haven't even won a conference championship. Utah has a losing record against PAC-12 opponents and has yet to win a conference road game against a team with a winning record.

Great Match Up. This will be BYU toughest game to date. A win would put them in the top 25. (IMO) Looking forward to it. Also, Wisconsin got totally jobbed at Arizona State, the refs took that game from them.

    Cougar fans,
Why do you guys even respond to Chris B? Judging by the maturity level shown in his posts, not to mention his grammar, he is probably a 15 year old kid with a smartphone who should be paying more attention in class. And yet every third comment by a BYU fan is in response to his senseless drivel. He is a troll. Ignore him!

Always classy, thank you. I agree Wisconsin will be the toughest matchup and Camp Randell is always a difficult place to win. BYU will have to play their best all-around game of the year. Good luck to the Utes...hopefully they can heal up during the off week as well. Should be tough games on the 9th, ASU will be a tough one for Utah as well. Hope Wilson's finger gets better so he can play the way he's capable against them.

@ Chris B - Salt Lake City, UT - "Pavalova, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech are all ranked higher than Texas. Texas is at best the fourth best team in the Big 12. Fresno is the top team in the MWC, and byu did not beat them. But don't let facts stop you."

    Chris B -

And yet you guys on the hill still managed to get beat by a USC team playing their 2nd and 3rd stringers.

    Nice job....

(BTW, FWIH, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech are all ranked in the top 19 of the BCS standings.)

A simple fact check gives us the Big 12 standings. Texas and Baylor sit ON TOP of the Big 12...not 4th, but 1st. If someone said Baylor is better than Texas I would actually give that some credence. Someone's confused, especially when listing a team Texas already manhandled as being better than the Longhorns.

    Entertaining as always, Chris. LOL!

    Cougsndawgs,

Oklahoma is ranked higher than Texas. Doesn't that mean they're better?

Or are you agreeing Utah is better than byu since we beat you, even if the rankings don't agree with that?

    Flip Flop!

    LOL

    Which is it byU fans?

Texas is at best the fourth best team in the Big 12 according to the experts.

But hey, you guys probably know more than them huh?

    LOL!

    "patriot

    Cedar Hills, UT

wins on the road against Wisconsin and ND would really open some eyes for the Y.No easy task for sure but these BIG 10 schools actually match better for the Y than schools with speed like Florida State."

This is exactly right. There are a couple of types of speed and it seems Florida St., Clemson, Oregon, and LSU type of "speed" is a real problem for BYU whereas B1G and Big 12 is more manageable.

    "dallas realist

    rockwall, texas

Think how good the MTN West would be if TCU UTAH and BYU would have stayed. What could have been.. .

Now Utah and TCU are Bottom dwellers and BYU is playing for nothing every week."

All three schools are far better off financially than they would have ever been in the MWC under any postseason scenario. Furthermore, while BYU's bowl ties haven't been as appealing, the exposure they get now is basically the best. I don't see how any one of the three loses.

  • WON84 PLANO, TX
    Oct. 29, 2013 8:52 a.m.

Chris, Utah won the heads up game and has won the last four. There's no use trying to debate that BYU is the better team though given how things are going now I don't understand how BYU lost both of the games they did.

I think that's where you're going with the Texas example as honestly, Texas is probably the best team in the Big 12 right now. Baylor's No.'s are inflated by who they've played and their defense is awful. They'll lose 2-3 games when it's all said and done. Should I say mark my words?

  • Cougsndawgs West Point , UT
    Oct. 29, 2013 9:36 a.m.

    Chris B:
We're talking about the Big 12 conference. Please look at the standings. Until these so-called better teams actually de-seat Texas from their #1 standing in their conference, your statement means nothing. I know this is difficult for you to understand because your beloved utes are never in that position in their conference.

Texas lost twice which keeps them from being ranked higher than the teams you think are better. In a conference that's how it works...you beat said teams, you win the conference. I'm sorry that Utah can't beat the teams in their conference and are 1-4, but that doesn't change the fact that Texas is 4-0 in conference which is tied for first place. Trying to compare that with Utah's situation vs BYU is an epic fail...Texas is 5-2, 4-0...Utah is 4-4, 1-4. Obviously the experts see that BYUs loss to Utah was similar to their loss to UVA. They obviously see that BYU is better than both Utah and UVA but didn't play well in those games...all based on what BYU has accomplished and Utah/UVA have not since playing each other.

So Utah is obviously better than byu since we beat you(again) if byu fans reasoning is that Texas is better than Oklahoma since Texas beat them?

    Cougsndawgs,

Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Baylor are all better than Texas.

Texas is at very best fourth best team in the Big 12.

Utah has a top 10 win this year.

    Does byU?

Utah's worst loss is to a team that will go bowling.

byu's worst loss Virginia. And guess how many Division 1 wins Virginia has this year?

    ONE(just byU)

    LOL.

    Ball state beat Virginia

    Duke beat Virginia

    byu did NOT.

    LOL!

"Texas is better than Oklahoma since Texas beat them?

Didn't see that logic coming back to bite you guys huh?"

What logic? Texas might be better than Oklahoma, that remains to be seen depending on how well they do the rest of the season...Oklahoma may win the Big 12, we don't know. See, Texas has only 2 losses, Oklahoma has only 1. Who's the better team will be determined throughout the season. According to you Oklahoma is better but we all know how your predictions go...maybe 30% accuracy.

On the other hand, BYU is 6-2 and getting better every week, while Utah is 4-4, 1-4 in conference and getting whipped by delapidated teams like USC. That's the difference and where your logic fails. BYU fans have said all along that it's where you end the season, not one game. Texas and Oklahoma are similar right now in record and both playing well. BYU and Utah are NOT similar and moving in opposite directions. Comparing Texas/Oklahoma with BYU/Utah is apples and oranges considering those teams' circumstances. Claiming Oklahoma is better than Texas is what is illogical.

  • BeSmart Cheyenne, WY
    Oct. 29, 2013 10:22 a.m.

Woudlnt it be nice if byu and Utah could meet on the field to determine who the better team was?

    Oh wait, they did!

    Winning team: Utah
    Losing team: byu

Second 4-0 sweep for Utah over byU in the last 15 years.

Guess how many 4-0 sweeps byU has over Utah in the last 15 years?

    Zero!

According to you Texas Tech , Oklahoma, Oklahoma are better than Texas because they are ranked higher than Texas even though Oklahoma lost against Texas. So, based on your logic BYU is better than Utah because BYU is ranked higher even though they lost against Utah.

Lose against one team doesn't tell much. BYU is 0-4 in last 4 year so what, BYU is 26-16 in last 42 years go count it. Any one can make any number to make there team better. Fact is utah hasn't done anything since they got to PAC-12. If strength of schedule is your complain then you don't belong to big boy conference. You are mediocre mid-major, way worst than BYU.

In 5 of the 8 Bronco/Kyle era seasons, BYU finished with BETTER record and HIGHER ranking than Utah; the final results of each season prove that BYU was BETTER, and it's becoming obvious, that 2013 will stretch that record to 6 of 9 seasons.
