In other news. The democrat from Holladay wants to pass a bill to increase taxes
on anyone with a child. After all if you just tax people more, then their burden
is lifted....How's that for democrats working with the public?
"Government skools" from cradle to grave, it's the liberal fantasy,
and apparently Salt Lake County embraces it.Apprarently, they also
do not trust families to raise their own children, or they adhere to the welfare
plantation mentality that abhors the notion of married, male and female parents
bearing children and being responsible for them. After all they are competing
with The State which knows best! What is wrong with private
preschools, and why is it a government responsibility to compete with private
There is nothing wrong with private preschools DN Sub 2, nothing at all. The
cost to enroll those kids in private preschools goes beyond the means of many in
affording it. This has nothing to do with a liberal fantasy. This is addressing
a need and trying to lay a foundation so that maybe, just maybe, those kids
don't end up in the correctional system where we spend over $40K a year to
feed, clothe, and house just 1 inmate. As a conservative, programs like this
one, to me, make sense.
It is good to see Mayor McAdams lead out on this issue and the district working
to make a difference in these kids lives. The intentions are noble.
Now it is important that the people involved ask the hard questions, gather
data and determine what works best for these kids. It is very difficult for a
government program to accomplish that.We have had "free"
preschool in this country for several decades with the Headstart program. It
has been a colossal failure. The study that was hidden last year, released the
Friday before Christmas after years of holding it back, showed without debate
that Headstart does NOTHING to improve the academic trajectory of the kids who
attend. Billions of dollars have been invested in Headstart. It is sickening
that it continues to be funded. The questions that must be asked:
How will this program be different? How will they use the lessons learned by
Headstart to ensure they have a different outcome? How will they gather
academic achievement data on these students, in preschool, and throughout their
K-12 education to be able to determine the effectiveness of the program?
"How's that for democrats working with the public?" Since he is
doing what the majority of us hired him to do I would say he is doing just fine
"working with the public."
