Very, very good move on the Jazz's part. Well done! Favors is definitely
a cornerstone of the Jazz's future.
I'm glad we signed Favors , I feel that we are still paying for potential
but I think he will develop and be worth what he's getting. I hope he
learns who he really is and becomes the defensive stopper we need. I think
Kanter will prove to be the offensive go to guy we need and Hayward can be the
So if Hayward signs a similar contract the Jazz would be $18 million under the
cap and $30+ million under the Luxury tax limit in 2014. That should enable them
to sign 2 players equal to or better than Milsap and Jefferson. They could go
from rags to riches in 1 year especially if they were to finish in the bottom
five in the lottery with probably 5 franchise type players in this draft.
A lot of money for a guy who has a lot of work left to do on the offensive side
of the ball.I like Favors a lot, but this could backfire on the Jazz.
Imperative move by the Jazz. Favors is invaluable as a defensive stopper, a
beast with hops, good timing, power and intensity. His gradual offensive
improvement should make Favors an all star eventually, but his defensive ability
is already impressive and increasingly dominant. Karl Malone has apparently
helped his offensive game some. I'd like to suggest he meet with Bill
Walton. Bill was an above-the-rim center who could play power forward and was on
the slim side like Derrick (Bill actually looked skinny next to most centers),
and was an adept scorer. As Captain L alluded to, Kanter's improvement as
an all-around scorer will aid the Jazz, and it will also free up Derrick's
What's that old saying?? "Slow and steady wins the race"??? Or
something like that. I think the Jazz organization is proceeding with intent,
caution and a good plan (so far). If we fans can be patient, we will live long
enough to see solid results. (I'm in my seventies and plan to do so.)Go Jazzboys! This preseason is just that--PREseason.
Although it is alot of money it is about fair market value. He certainly is not
as good offensively as Cousins so he got less money than him. He is much better
defensively and fortunately for us defense costs less money.I
seriously don't think the Mavericks win their championship without a
defensive bit Tyson Chandler in the middle. We just locked up our Chandler
except he is 10 years younger and already better defender/rebounder.IMO I don't believe Favors ever will be that great of an offensive
player. He just is not showing much if any progress. He needs a good pick and
roll type PG who can get him the ball rolling to the basket or for some
alley-oops. Easy 12ppg. His low post moves and creativity on the block are
pretty weak and not getting much better. So be it. He is an elite defender and
rebounder and that is a foundation to build on.Kanter is clearly the
better offensive player and is progressing at a ridiculous pace.Kanter and Favors on the floor together will eventually be an elite NBA
defensive duo. Stats last year indicate they are stifling to offenses.
Every deal has risk. I like these numbers. It would have taken the same to
have resigned Big Al and the Jazz were at the ceiling. I agree with Shaybo.
I remember a few months back when some people were complaining about the new GM
and how he was choosing to build and how we couldn't keep favors or
hayward. well half of that is complete, yet I haven't seen those
complainers coming on here to admit that they were wrong. Obviously hayward
could still leave, but this is a good sign so far.
Favors is good, but not worth this contract. This is a Kirilenko or Ostertag
type contract. Not good.
Favors is worth every penny even IF (big IF) ALL he does on offense is rebound.
Defense wins championships, and Favors doesn't need to be Karl Malone if we
can build a solid defense around him and he gets rebounds. Also, team
chemistry is far more important than most people realize, and I'm very
happy with the way this team is shaping up. The Jazz are obviously recruiting
WINNERS WITH CHARACTER! That's exciting.
millsap was making 600.000 and they offered him 1 mil. and favors is worth 12?
and he hasen't proved anything yet. and he won't have to he alredy got
the money. now he can wait 3 years to play for a new contract. almost as bad as
kirlinko's contract. mind boggling they would pay him that much before he
is even a starter and hasen't done much in the past against 2nd units
Favors has major game...Period! Love his attitude when he plays. No one is
better is his mindset. Jazz need more players like this! You'll never see
him act like players such as Cousins on or off the court. Congrats to D-Fav on
I never knew that the analyst from Louisiana was so well-connected that he knows
better than the people who work with Favors as coaches and administrators how
much he is worth.
To all the people here who thinks this is an AK type contract...did you honestly
think...AK didnt deserve that contract the way he played before he even signed
that contract?....the guy was the ultimate utility player before he got
injured...getting 2-5 blks 2-5 stls a game...he got in the all-star...if he was
healthy after the contract was signed...he would have been worth it...we
don't know what the future holds to be honest...but players like Larry
Sanders, DeAndre Jordan and Jevale Mcgee gets huge paydays...i think we got a
bargain with Favors...if he lives up to the hype in two years....he'll be
commanding max contract after his 4 year tenure....@Brahmabullcomparing Ostertag to Favors is just too bad of a comparison...Ostertag
never worked...Favors is a workhorse...that alone...deserves him the pay....@louisiana Jazz manI understand your
sentiments...but...let's face it...Millsap is a 6th man...and gets
overpowered by bigger PF...Millsap is Good...but the defense Favors bring is
