Utah is the one and only premier program in the state.

And YES, having better(higher star) players than we have had previously helped us get this win.

Some teams think they are headed to a national title with 1-2 star nobodies, even though USC, Florida, lsu, Alabama all had high star recruiting classes.

    I LOVE my bcs membership!

    It's better being better.

    Head to head; Utah
    Toughest schedule: Utah
    Best win: Utah
    Worst loss: byu
Best ranking after they are released: Utah

Can't wait to hear the spin from Provo about byU being better still.

Let me say this in advance:

    Lol!

Congrats to the Utes and the cougs, both teams could finish in the top 25 if they can win on the the road.

I love my FAITH's school and my State's School.

Go prove that both schools can do well.

  • Christopher B Ogden, UT

    Things I said since offseason:

Utah would beat byu for fourth time in a row
    Utah would beat usu
Utah would split Stanford and Oregon
    Utah would go 8-4

This program will be a force in the prestigious PAC 12

    Like I said.

It took a few years for recruiting to improve and YES we are getting much better(higher STARS) than we did in our Mwc days.

    That's only going to continue!

The future of football in Utah,

    Is Utah!

  • Christopher B Ogden, UT
    Oct. 12, 2013 10:19 p.m.

Head to head recruiting last four years more recruits have picked Utah over byu, with many saying the many benefits if the PAC 12 being a big reason

This certainly won't do anything to change that trend!

  • Voice of Reason Layton, UT

And once again, every Ute fan post so far somehow references BYU! Ah, the joy of being a Y fan...in some Ute fan minds we'll always be better somehow, even when we're not. And ChrisB, everyone's favorite secret BYU fan trying to make Ute fans look bad (that's really the only reasonable explanation for this guy), continues to work out his many issues on the DesNews boards.

All that said, congratulations to the Utah football team on an awesome signature win.

By the way, in the PAC-12, Utah hasn't lost at Colorado or Arizona! No sense doing research, right? Epic fail!

Why would a person go to all the trouble of setting up a new account in honor of tonight's game and get the team wrong? Utah 27 USC 21 Really? Didn't Utah just beat Stanford by that score?

Rock all in all a B+ on the article, you complement Utah with paradoxical spins with each positive remark.

But Ill give you the benefit, Im sure its difficult being a byU fan writing an article about your adversary.

Rock its not to late to convert, "CTR" Choose The Red! you know the University that Prophets graduate from.

    Thanks Rock

You beat STANFORD, not USC, 27-21.

I agree. Besides "oh so bodacious" Rock Monster seemed miffed for some reason. Maybe he should have waited at least 24 hours to imply that the Utes need to move on, because this win was awesome!

Keep up the good work against Zona! Go Utes!

Rock you let your bitterness over Utahs wins over BYU and last nights signature win over a top five juggernaut and a truly terrific team (much better than the team we slapped silly in their own place a couple of months ago--heh heh jest sayin')--hamper your research. Be a pro! Look up the scores and past games and get it right. The Utes won at Colorado.

Of course truly objective sports fans will say the same thing about Stanford as they did about Texas: "They were obviously over-ranked."

    ------------

    * Objective fans can see that Stanford knows how to tackle.

    * Objective fans know that Stanford lost to a good team, they did not get exposed by a team that lost to 2-4 Virgina whose only other win is over a D2 team.

    * Objective fans will also pull up the AP rankings and see Stanford dropped 7 spots, while Texas is still not ranked in the top 25.

    * AP rankings as of today: #9 UCLA (last second loss), #13 Stanford (last sec win), Utah #29, OSU #31 (OT loss), #33 Texas (exposed).

Wow! How can this be a team that lost to a D2 team and a team that lost to a team that lost to a D2 team is ranked higher then Texas and BYU? Conspiracy this week?

  • Uteology East Salt Lake City, Utah
    Oct. 13, 2013 12:04 p.m.

Utah has moved on. Evidence from the first 3 PAC-12 games (AP #9, #13, #31) show that Utah is a much better team in the PAC-12 today then we were in season ONE.

It's time for sport writers in this state to move on to another talking point.

It's only one win, but its a BIG win. Time to move on to the next opponent, bring on Arizona.

    Go UTES!!

For those making the tireless claim about Utah being the school of the prophets, I guess you missed the article that said that current members of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve hold a total of 4 degrees from the U and a total of 7 degrees from BYU, as published on-line in the Deseret News. But don't let facts get in your way.

Utah did get a quality win yesterday. But Stanford was over-ranked. Let's see how the remainder of the season plays out. Of course some reporters think Utah was the smartest team in the nation but I wonder what they would have said had that last Stanford pass been completed and the final score be 28-27 for the Cardinal. Utah showed a great defense, too. They came away on the right side of the final play, unlike Oregon State in OT.

"current members of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve hold a total of 4 degrees from the U and a total of 7 degrees from BYU"

I guess toosmart missed that many of those BYU degrees were grad degrees awarded on free tuition, while all the U degrees came at the recipient's own expense.

Oh, wait, the DNews "forgot" to mention that part.

    @too"smart"foryou

"Utah did get a quality win yesterday."

Ya think? I would say whenever your team beats a Top 5 team, that you could call that a "quality" win. No need to get effusive, I guess.

    "But Stanford was over-ranked."

Really? Says who? They were 5-0, and undefeated since last October. They had beaten a solid Washington team, and destroyed a 3-1 Washington State team by 38 points. But that's irrelevant. Thousands of sports writers throughout the country disagreed with your assessment of being "over-ranked".

And which sports writers said they were the "smartest team in the nation". I mean, thanks for the compliment, but I don't think anyone who truly follows the Utes are claiming anything more than gutting out a very tough, hard-earned win over a formidable opponent.

    @Ed Grady:

I'm not sure who you're rooting for from Spudville (YbU? Boise's not a state? Weber's not a state? Ricks?), but I'm guessing the sports pulse is pretty slow there.

No worries, we'll continue enjoying our signature PAC-12 victory without stumbling over detractors from Idaho Falls! lol

    Go Utes!

" "I felt like we'd just won the national championship."

Those grapes must taste extra sour when you realize this win was MUCH bigger than any win byu had in '84. You can't win championships by exclusively playing the worst teams in college football anymore.

I'm amused at the youthful glee that Utah fans are expressing at beating Stanford in a classic trap game. Signature win? More like a forgery win.

    Oct. 14, 2013 11:40 a.m.

"This is as close as Utah will get to a national championship."

One of that level of class might also say that losing to Utah is as close as Kyle Van Noy will ever get to the real Super Bowl.

But I won't. I say best of luck to Van Noy in his career, and stay classy, Idaho Falls.

  • Samurai Jake Salt Lake City, UT
    Oct. 14, 2013 12:19 p.m.

    @Ed Grady:

You've used "trap game" one time too many. Time to turn the page.

Utah's victory over Stanford was no forgery. It was the signature PAC-12 victory that naysayers dressed in royal smurf blue have demanded since the Utes joined the Conference of Champions.

Now that they've done it, kindly refrain from being a sore loser twice over. Go Utes!

  • Ed Grady Idaho Falls, ID

Actually I think Utah is a good team, so I'm both amused and puzzled at the exuberance shown by Utah fans because of this win. C'mon act like you've been here before - wait...

    First:
“This is as close as Utah will get to a national championship."
    Then:
"Signature win? More like a forgery win."
    And now:
"Actually I think Utah is a good team."

Whoa! You're all over the road up there in Idaho, Ed!
