I wish the church published data on how many of the 15 million have been to
church in the last year. I truly would be curious. Good article.
To church member: don't be curious, just hope and believe that it is all
of them, why assume the worst? Why doesn't the church publish how many
people had the flu last year or how many people go camping? The miracle is
that they let little old, awkward me be a member.
I agree. I've often wished we knew how many were active. But
then I think, why? What would that data tell me? Anything of worth? What would
the figure prove?Suppose a survey revealed that I was the only
member who attended church on Sundays. Out of 15 million members, only Moontan
showed up. Isn't that enough?
Church member (really?):it's probably 15%. So what? Maybe
it's 80%. So What? Besides, you are asking for information the
Church does not keep track of so don't expect an answer anytime soon. They
only count heads and they don't keep track of individuals (I am speaking of
Sacrament Meeting). The % of members that have gone once to Sacrament Meeting in
the last 12 months is always higher than the average number that attend SM
weekly. So What?I have heard from missionaries that they have been
asked to baptize only active LDS (think about it). If this is possible and
through attrition our activity % should increase over time. However, the parable
of the ten virgins may limit this to 50%.
Now we're over 15 MILLION members?Awesome!However.....Shhhhh!.....don't tell those disgruntled few who are leaving
the Church. They still think our numbers are shrinking...This is
the place. Drive on!
