Several problems with this story.First, there is no need for the
federal government to be involved in education at all. The entire Department of
Education and every employee should be shut down permanently. They add
complexity and overhead and produce little or nothing of value except
bureaucratic administrivia. Sure, the dole out lots of money, but the cost for
them to do so is unacceptable.Second, the "Head Start"
Program has been studied and the results show that there is no significant long
term educational benefit. It is another "feel good" program (among
dozens of others) that no one will end because "we have always done it that
way" and most beneficiaries are minorities and thus any criticism is branded
as racist. The federal debt has been run up by hundreds of programs
and agencies like this, and we cannot continue doing anything but the most
essential and effective programs. Time to end Head Start and the Department of
Education-- unless you want to cut Social Security and Medicaid instead.
Why is the Federal government in the education business anyway? If and when the
new budget is passed, hopefully it won't include any education subsidies.
States should handle their own education.
