Zero losses against your rival in 6 years.I was told all offseason
byu would win.I was told the same thing last yearAnd the
year beforeAnd the year beforeUtah has better athletes
and better coaches. This translates into a better team.Keep
pretending your 1-2 star nobodies that had ZERO BCS offers and coaches that just
keep doing the same things over and over are leading you to the crystal ball!
I've moved on - to lower expectations, just like last year and the year
before that. But I can cheer for the Mighty Utes, the best in the state.Go Utes! Keep working Cougars.
Hmmm!Let's restate the obvious! The Cougars have a
decent defense. Their O-Line is a huge question mark. Their QB can run well
but can't pass. Their receivers have underperformed and their passing
attack is among the worst in the country for D-1 schools.There. Now
it's all been documented. In today's highly athletic world,
BYU needs to recruit better athletes and devise a more effective scheme for
moving the football. "Go Fast! Go Hard!" lives and dies on execution.
BYU does not have the horses to execute against very good teams. Texas,
unfortunately, was not a very good team.A winning season this year
would be a major achievement for this squad.
What to expect in the 2016 game? Neither coach at the Y or the U will be on
It was obvious on Saturday that Utah had better players, in more positions, than
BYU. However, BYU has traditionally had less talent than many teams it has
beaten, and the reason it prevailed was the passing game. I don't know
whether defensive schemes are so advanced now that it isn't feasible for
BYU to pass like it once did, but it can't beat good teams without a
stellar passing attack. Overall, Taysom Hill is too good an athlete to bail out
on this early in the season, but he must start throwing better if the Y wants to
win more than 3-4 games this year. The good news is that even a little
improvement in that regard would almost certainly have a huge impact on the
team's fortunes. (If not, well, there's always basketball.)As for Utah, we'll see what happens in the rest of its conference games.
It isn't going to beat Oregon or Stanford, but the USU-USC game revealed
the latter to be a pretty ordinary team, at least on offense. This week's
game against UCLA will probably chart the course of the balance of the season.
Chris B, you are wrong as often as you are right. Pac-12 competition is coming
up; it might be a good time to stop posting from Fantasyland. I was
at the game Saturday night, not far from Ute supporters who shouted obscenities
during the traditional pregame prayer, and then vocally wished for paralysis for
Jamaal Williams when he was injured. Now that Utah football has been
temporarily declared the best in this rivalry, maybe you can focus on recruiting
some 5-star fans.
Or they could simply quit. College Football, Inc., is a huge racket and
it's time BYU got out of it.
@christophYes, their days are numbered...just like everyone else. You
are special and unique and blah blah blah...just like everyone else. Are
the Bees so bad this year that you must comment on things you know nothing
You've got to love how an article titled "All BYU can do in wake of the
rivalry loss to Utah is move on" comes directly after an article titled
"Utah-BYU: Rivalry games in which the Utes never trailed the Cougars."
While I agree fans should move on, may I suggest the media moves on as well?
Everyone, Chris B has won his day in the sun by correctly predicting BYU's
loss in the Holy War for the 4th time in a row.Now let's do as
the article says and move on. Ignore him and don't comment directly to
Having a hard time understanding the lack of fan support for Taysom Hill. This young man didn't just get off the turnip truck as a QB. He
apparently had at least six offers prior to signing with BYU and was the 2009 #1
postseason guy from Idaho, #30 QB in the nation. (Yes I know Heaps was up there
too....)But clearly he was effective in another earlier time, so
must have had the skill/touch at some point to warrant that evaluation. He may now need coaching, sure-handed receivers, and fan support to regain
that skill level, not derision and condemnation. BYU fans, time to
step up. Give the young man a chance. Help him thru this hard time,
help him rebuild his internal passing "computer", and I'd wager
he'll return the favor six-fold down the stretch. He's an
important part of your Blue Family, willing to step up and risk his future
health and well-being for you every time he touches the ball. Everyone --- coaches, players, fans --- give him the respect and support that
he deserves, and watch him take off like a rocket ship.(--- Just
$0.02 from a Utah fan)
Ok moving on from a heartbreaking loss. I got really good ticket
(cheap too since the some fan are already jumping off the boat) for the next
game and I am excitted because it will be my son first BYU game. Who
knows maybe the Y and U can play in a bowl game at the end of the year, which
would give Hill some time to grow as a QB. Noticed the team is supporting Hill
and not calling for his head.
Do some research on the "better program" comment. Better program is
based on all 12/13 games, not just 1. Last two years BYU's worst loss has
been to Utah, Utah's best win has been over BYU. Last year their second
best win was over #81 Cal!However, let's put some real numbers
with it. When you average all the rating systems (Massey does it for you),
Bronco has averaged a final ranking of 29.5, while Whitt has averaged a final
ranking of 35.75. If you want to use median to lower the noise, Bronco stays at
29.5 while Utah comes in at 35. You can "central average" or use other
measures, but on average Bronco's teams have been better overall. BYU has
also finished the year with the better ranking the last two years (34-67,
32-39). Remember, you have to include the Colorado game and UNLV
shutting out the Utes. Whit has been masterful at exploiting Bronco's
weaknesses, but not as good at winning on a weekly basis.
After 4 years in a row losing to our in state rival, for many fans, the rest of
the season is irrelevant. The reality is that BYU will win the games it should
and lose the big ones. That is what we expect from Bronco and Anae. That is all
they have delivered and all they will deliver.
If Utah fans were disrespectful during the prayer and hoping the worst for
Marcus Williams I have to believe it was a very few individuals. Both fan bases
have their very small percentage that just want to make the other side mad. I
believe the vast majority of fans on both sides are good people who want to see
their team do well. Evansrich I hope you have a great time this Friday with your
son and that BYU plays well. I also hope Marcus Williams is back with the team
and healthy soon.
Utah wins the match-up with BYU so far this century. I can accept that. What I
cannot accept is one match-up results equate to one program being superior to
the other. Only during the Crowton years where BYU had three losing seasons has
Utah been clearly head and shoulders a better program. Utah was not clearly the
better program last year and it has yet to be proven that they are the better
program this year. The best thing BYU can do is to move forward and
no longer schedule the Utes. What happened AFTER the game was an embarrassment.
While that sort of behavior is acceptable at other Universities seeing the fans
pelt garbage on the referees at my Alma Mater brought tears to my eyes. We
cannot be like other programs.Scheduling Utah harms the mission of
the church whether we win or lose when our fans behave as they did. Its time
the leadership stop playing Utah until both programs can treat each other with
@rhappahannockWhat exactly is your point, that a power program (byu)
can't beat a lesser team (utes)? You cougs never cease to amaze me
with your useless statistics. Final score dude.
There won't be any lasting effects on BYU nor its "fans".They're used to losing to Utah.
Don't the Cougars need to start preparing for their game on Friday? Time
to stop licking wounds and get to work!
@Steven S JarvisThe best thing BYU can do is to move forward and no
longer schedule the Utes. What happened AFTER the game was an embarrassment.
While that sort of behavior is acceptable at other Universities seeing the fans
pelt garbage on the referees at my Alma Mater brought tears to my eyes. -------------Is it really "acceptable" at other
Universities? Can you provide some proof?Thank goodness Max
Hall's family wasn't anywhere near the refs.
Yikes! The Utes will be playing, with the use of PAC 12 refs. What
caused defeats for Utah State, Wisconsin, and BYU,--may now face the Utes, as
it possibly did last year.
Actually, I don't feel Utah State, or BYU have inept offenses. Neither do
I believe Utah, and USC have fantastic defenses? What caused both
the Aggies, and Cougs to low scoring, is the same thing which held Wisconsin
it's lowest scoring of the year.Something prevented momentum
which led to hesitant offensive execution. Hmm?
I'm just glad that its not my team that was humiliated 4 straight times by
my rival and has to wait two long years for redemption after I posted acres of
useless historical data to "prove" that they are the better program.
Wallow in your shame Cougar Fan!
This article is asking the BYU fan base to move on. Are you kidding me? A fan
base that is still living in 1984 and earlier? A fan base that can only quote
some obscure stat or record of thirty plus years ago as being relevant today? A
fan base that believes that their team has never lost a game? How many times
have we been told that they were the better team, even when the scoreboard shows
otherwise? This week all their coach could claim was we were the better team!
They do not recognize or realize that the score shows which team the better
team. Their fans have been conditioned to believe this all their life. A fan
base that after this weeks win will be chanting we are back BCS here we come.
You are asking the impossible. Four in a row and three years to go.
Now it's time to play the old one game doesn't make a season card?
Typical and pathetic. I guess the BYU fan will do anything, and I mean anything,
before manning up and admitting Utah is the bettere team. Truely sad.
@Spokane Ute: What do female fans need to do then?
At kaysville cougarWoman up. 8-)
