There is something called the endzone guys. I realize the uprights are easier to see, be the endzone is where the points are. Regardless of the ruling on the field, we didn't score a single LEGIT touchdown tonight.

Utah's run defense is pretty good. BYU's hope was the pass game, but Hill just isn't a good enough passer. BYU's defense was fairly strong and Utah had a mediocre offensive output. But the game was won on BYU's inability to pass consistently and accurately. The key to shutting down BYU is to focus on their run game because they are mainly one-dimensional.

    Nice win for the Utes.

After a game like this, many will be calling for Ammon Olsen to replace Hill. I say bring Ammon in and move Taysom out to the slot to get some of our receivers to the bench. Aside from Cody, defenses have no more to fear from our receivers than if I was out there.

Wow - BYU has the momentum going on their side and on that fourth and one they punt? The punt didn't hurt Utah's field position that much. If you were going to trust your defense, trust them if they don't make the first down. The game's momentum clearly shifted with that punt and the Cougars never recovered. I don't know who made the call but it was a costly one. Can I borrow some pepper sauce to put on the crow I'm going to be eating now for three long years!. Congrats to Coach Whitingham for showing some passion and leadership in the game - well done Coach. This is one BYU fan that appreciates good coaching,Utah's Coaches fits the bill.

Tough loss for the Cougars. Utah played well and did what they had to do to eek out a win. BYU drops too many passes and can't reach the overthrown balls that come from Taysom Hill. The Cougars can't complete a pass when it is crunch time. Are there any other QB's that might be able to throw a better ball? Hill is a great runner, but his passing leaves something to be desired. I'm still a Cougar fan, but a frustrated one at present.

Another exciting game in this rivalry. While many of us won't miss all the vitriol associated with this series, I'm definitely going to miss the fottball. Seems like it always comes down to the end.

Game Ball #1: Travis Wilson. Stood in and took some shots, particularly from KVN, but held firm on that long sustained drive in the early 4th quarter to put them on top by 2 TDs. He was 7/7 on that drive.

Game Ball #2: Dres Anderson. Other than the missed catch he had at the end to keep the clock running, he played awesome.

Game Ball #3: Utah's D. Way to come back after last week. Here's hoping Eric Rowe learned his lesson, though. Keep the taunts out of the game! Let your play do the talking.

Nice win. Hoping the Cougs can bounce back and have a good season.

    Go Utes!

BYU needs a good offensive coordinator, plain and simple. The utterly predictable play calling is just killing them.

Utah, congrats on the win. Congrats for not wetting your pants every time you play BYU. Congrats on recruiting QBs that can throw the ball.

There is a philisophical coaching problem (on the field) at BYU. Losing to utah 4-in a row and 9-13 (I may be wrong) is not acceptable.

Stop trying to develop running QBs that can not consistently throw the ball. Stop. Stop calling plays that your QB can't make the throw on.

    Just stop.

    Sept. 22, 2013 12:25 a.m.

Hard fought game by both teams. Wilson is developing into a decent quarterback. Defensive backs still not great, but better this week. BYU should throw the ball more. Hill caught fire in the 4th quarter. He throws the seam and crossing routes well, but is terrible in long passes.

Respect for Kyle Van Noy and many of those BYU players who left it all on the field. Cougar fans should be wondering why BYU renewed Bronco for 3 years. They should be better.

Utes needed to be 3-1 at this stage of the season to have any hope of getting to a bowl game. Now comes the heart of the Pac 12 schedule. Stanford are beasts. UCLA very good. It will be very tough to get wins. Offense needs to continue to improve. Defense needs to improve a lot.

Great job stopping the run early Ute front 7. Glad for the outcome in spite of kind of a sloppy game.

Utes come out on top yet again. At this point I'm beginning to seriously question BYU's ability to ever beat Utah again. BYU now has plenty of time to try to figure it out before facing Utah again.

What a Great way to end the rivalry for 3 years. Great game by both teams! Wilson outplayed Hill and it was key to their victory. Both Defenses play really well all game! I will miss this for the next three years.

"If Utah loads the box and Hill has Hoffman and Matthews or Apo in one-on-one coverage on the outside he will beat them with his arm."

Hoffman-8 rec 108 yds (nice job to a great player) 0 TD
    Matthews-3 rec 54 yds 0 TD
    Apo-0 rec

"I just want t make sure that all you utie commenters show up on these boards after the game"

Here I am. Where are you, poyman?

"I especially like the part where the writers believe that they will be holding Hill under 50% in passing accuracy... (NEWSFLASH!!! 'No monsoons this week')"

No. Just a drought in BYU pass completions.

"Unless it's storming during the game, don't make the mistake of underestimating the rest of Hill's abilities. He's had 2 weeks to learn and develop from previous games and it will likely become evident tomorrow."

Sorry, Tots. You can't teach a guy to be a passing QB in two weeks. 38% in good conditions.

I feel yah. I once "accidentally" forgot to wash the utah U logos off my little girls cheeks when we went to my inlaws heavy BYU fan ward. Ahh good times. I couldnt wipe the smile off my face for three whole hours. Oops and they only come off with rubbing alcohol so any attempts by them to wipe the reminder of their loss off of their cute faces was futile. I normally dont bring the rivalry into church but that never stopped them on the rare wins they had this past decade so I couldnt resist. They are the kind to rub a loss in your face but don't know anything about football and couldn't name a single player on their own team. By the way we should start naming all of our wins agianst BYU. i'll start Hey we won, again.

Now BYU will play those patsies they always play and tell everybody at the end of the year that they are the better team after facing Middle Tennessee State, Houston and Idaho. Just like in 2011 when Utah beat BYU 54-10 in Provo. The Utes finished 8-5 and BYU 10-3 against the likes of Tulsa, Idaho, Idaho State, New Mexico State, Hawaii, Weber State, and Central Florida. Yes 7 patsies and their brand name with a top 25 ranking, and suddenly they had the better year then. Wrong, Utah was the premier team in the state in 2011 and now. Yes last year Utah was 5-7. We know this. But they were depleted and beat BYU with a second string QB Hays, second string RB with Jon White IV out (who torched BYU in 2011) and two back up safeties and a back up LB with Blechen out last year as well.

Utah's defense came up big tonight, especially in the RED ZONE (not blue zone). Trevor Reilly played with pneumonia tonight and was a huge inspiration just like last year playing on a torn ACL and leading the team in tackles.

  • Wayne Rout El Paso, TX

There's a reason that Bronco was not BYU's first or second choice as coach. Clearly Coach W is more pragmatic and a far better all around coach. Bronco is probably the best defensive coordinator in the country, but he seems to lack the over all perspective to be a head coach. He's doing some great things, but thus far he has been blind when it comes to quarterbacks and offense. I see no hope. He's doing great on 70% of the job, his failings on the remainder will not get him fired, but it will end the deal with ESPN if he does not change. He has to start with better talent. He needs more talent and when he has it, he has to use it.

    @gdog3finally

Kind of like Utah crowing about beating Weber and Oregon St.

The ONLY thing this game showed is that both teams are mediocre D1 teams.

And statistically speaking (other than pass completion percentage) they are very very similar.

If BYU is so bad and Utah is so supposedly superior then Utah has NOTHING to crow about by barely beating them in a low scoring game, and will in all likelihood be still sitting home for the holidays.

If not for so many mistakes BYU easily could have walked away with win.

And what has happened to BYU's passing game? They haven't had a confident passing game since the mid '90s. If not for having a few excellent offensive players in mid 2000s every one should have noticed by now.

  • BleedCougarBlue Enid, OK
    Sept. 23, 2013 12:31 p.m.

OK, it's been said by others but I gotta add my 2 cents:

1 - What the heck was with BYU trying to run between the tackles so much in the 1st half?

1st down - run, and go nowhere
2nd down - run, and go nowhere
3rd down - pass, and either throw an uncatchable ball or have it hit the receiver and he drops it.
    4th down - punt

    Aggravating in the extreme!

2 - Waaaaay too many inaccurate passes. Surely Taysom can throw the ball better than that.

3 - Waaaaay too many dropped passes. Seriously, can a KNOWLEDGEABLE Cougar fan tell me why we fired the CFL's leading receiver as our receiver's coach?

4 - Nice "tackle" of our WR #10 on the last play of the game by Utah's DB. That was Defensive Pass Interference by a mile. No flag on that was a travesty of justice.

In summary: our offense is far, far too often ineffective. To have JD Falsev return that punt over 50 and come away with nothing is simply inexcusable.

I don't like losing to a good team. That's bad enough.

I REALLY don't like losing to a team with a very large contingent of disrespectful fans.

    Go Cougars!

  • StGtoSLC SALT LAKE CITY, UT
    Sept. 23, 2013 8:08 p.m.

Okie from Enid, you obviously have problems telling which team is on offense and defense. The guy in red was the one on defense on the last play, and yes he was tackled by the guy in blue, who happened to be on offense. It was a heady play because he knew the clock had expired and tricking the ref into giving him a flag was the only way to try to extend the game. The ref saw through the rouge. Game over. I give a lot of respect to BYU's players for a good game and not giving up. You are being disrespectful by not doing the same and whining about false, biased opinions.
