The F-35 is going to replace both the A-10 and the F-16?

    Bummer.

    I mean, that's really boring.

Right now, in the USAF fighter aiframe community, we only have A-10s, F-16s and 2 versions of the F-15 (the "C" and "E"). That's it.

Back in the 80s we had the O/A-37 Dragonfly, OV-10 Bronco, F-106 Dagger, F-4E/G Phantom (as well as RF-4s), F-15 Eagle, F-16 Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt, A-7 Corsair, F-5 Tiger and even old T-33 Shooting Stars for 'red air' simulations. A veritable fighter pilot's cornucopia of COOL airplanes!

    Not any more.

What happened to being able to crank out a prototype in 100 days from a drawing on the back of a napkin (the P-51 in WWII)?

Now, it takes almost TEN YEARS to get something from drawing board to flight and even then it costs a gazillion dollars more than budgeted and endless lawsuits contest the contract winner. Ridiculous.

For me, it's almost time to hang it up for my active duty career.

Anybody know where I can buy a good, used Phabulous Phantom?
