Considering taysom hill has the worst passer rating in the entire country,
I'm less than worried. I was more worried about the Weber game
The passing defense and passing offense for both teams will make the difference.
Let's look at the matchups.Taysom Hill 33% completion rate
against a Ute program who routinely sends secondary guys into the NFL draft.Edge: UtahWilson against a byu secondary that is not know
for being very good(see any BYU corners playing Sundays?)BYU's
first string corners are not known for being very goodBut now with
second or third string?Wilson will be throwing all night!
I am so going to enjoy yet another byu meltdown.Van Noy, Hoffman,
and many others will NEVER know what its like to beat their rival. Is
that more embarrassing for the players or the fans who still act like they are a
national powerhouse program on these boards?LOL!
I think this article is spot on. This game is going to be decided by whichever
teams allow their weaknesses to become strengths.
I will take Travis Wilson big in this game, also its time for Mcgill and Rowe to
What passing offense? ha ha, man that was a good one, oh wait...What
passing defense? oh, man.
Both BYU's pass offense and Utah's pass defense stink. This matchup
will be a non-factor. This game comes down to two things:1. Can
Utah keep Hill from running? If Hill has less than 150 yards rushing, Utah
wins.2. Can Utah's o-line give Wilson enough time to throw?
BYU's secondary is slow and soft...if Wilson has time to throw, he will
pick BYU apart and Utah's scoreline will be large.
I will be honest - it will be difficult for Utah to "fix" its pass
defense problems in one week. This is Taysom Hill's opportunity to redeem
his passing deficiencies. However, Utah knows that, and while "fixing"
the problem probably won't happen, being "just good enough" for
Utah's defense could happen. I am surprised that the article
did not mention BYU's own deficiencies at defensive back - the numerous
injuries there. However, Bronco's zone defensive schemes sometimes lessen
these problems. But look for Utah to use speedy Dres Anderson to exploit that
also. Anyway, the important thing is to have fun as fans. Win or
lose, maintain your respect for each other.
@ChrisBStop trying to fool us with your other names you have."Taysom Hill 33% completion rate against a Ute program who routinely sends
secondary guys into the NFL draft."Just because there have been
DB's in the past that have played in the NFL does NOT mean that any of
these current db will go, especially when you rank 112 out of 123 in pass
defense. Thats not really NFL material. Hoffman goes off for 175 yds and two
tds. mark it down christy.
The team that scores the most points will win.8-)
I'm glad this game will be decided on the field. One thing is certain -
the team that scores more than the other team will win. Mark it down! Which
team will come to win and play accordingly? This could be a great game.
BYU game is going to be fun to watch. We all know that Taysom is a better
passer than his current numbers reflect. I expect his numbers to pick up
substantially against the Ute secondary. Bronco has proven that he can put a
great defense on the field. Not too worried about Wilson putting up big
numbers. As long as BYU wins the turnover battle BYU wins the game. Go
I think Steve Tate nailed it on Talkin' Sports last night. Utah will load
the box to stop the run. That said, they'll make sure there's one guy
on every play, beside the assigned corner, keeping an eye on Hoffman. If BYU is
still able to run, Utah's in serious trouble. If BYU is unable to run well,
it'll come down to BYU pass protection and the ability of Taysom Hill to
complete balls to his tight ends and receivers not named Hoffman.I
believe it's a bit less complicated as far as Utah is concerned (not that
it will be any easier). It's simply pass protection. If Wilson has adequate
time, he'll complete enough balls to make BYU adjust which will likely open
up the running lanes.So... If Utah can't get the
passing game going fairly early, they're in trouble. If they can't
stop BYU's running game, they're in serious trouble. If
BYU can't get their running game going early, they're in trouble. If
they can't pressure Wilson, they're in serious trouble.
Taysom Hill does not have the worst passer rating in the country. That honor
belongs to Adam Dingwell of SDSU.
BYU will be the toughest defense Utah has faced...especially with the pressure
and different looks they will give Wilson. Those running lanes that were wide
open against one of the weakest defenses in the PAC12 will not be open against
BYUs run defense. BYUs pass defense may be better than utah fans are giving
credit for. Two aspects of pass defense which no one seems to be discussing is
pass rush and safeties. BYU has the best safeties in this game hands down, and
the best pass rush Utah has faced this season. Another item not being discussed
is the fact that Utah has not left the friendly confines of RES this year, so we
have yet to see how all the inexperienced players for Utah deal with a hostile
environment. They also havent faced a team that averages 96 plays a game, and
thats after slowing it down the whole 4th qtr against Texas. I dont care what
anyone says that is eventually going to ware on a defense. Should be a great
game, especially from my seat in the 8th row, 45 yard line...behind the Utah
bench. Lets Roll! Go Cougs!
All this talk about how horrible Taysom Hill is as a passer is too premature.
They played in a soggy/rain delayed game at Virginia where conditions were not
favorable to a prolific pass game and against Texas...Why would you even bother
to throw when you are successfully running at will? I think he simply needs more
reps/throws before we know what his abilities are. We know that he can run.
There is no doubt there, and he has some very capable receivers. When the rivalry game was played at the end of the season it was much easier
to make a logical prediction. But even then it almost always comes down to a
few little things here and there. It is the same with Utah's team.
They've played 3 games. Playing Weber State seems to make everybody look
like a superstar. The other 2 games are probably better predictors but too soon
to say. All these "mark it down" and chest pounding remarks are silly.
Just sit back and enjoy and likely very competitive and unpredictable game. Be
The way our secondary has looked, it won't take a great game by Hill, just
the ability to throw it over the top, which about half of the high school kids
locally can do. I'm worried about their ability to run the ball, and our
lack of ability to defend the mid to long ball. I want to be wrong so badly, but
I'm worried that I won't be. That being said. I also think that Wilson
needs to be used more, and hopefully we will quit trying to run into the heart
of the defense, because it hasn't worked in 3 games. Even Weber defended
