Does anyone see the myth-buster evidence here? Cars and gas tanks do not
exploded if they catch on fire and its on specail effects of movies and
implanted bombs that cause cars to explode. Gas will burn if it leaks but
explosions are a myth.Usually the only time a car catches on fire
like this is if it has been wrecked before in accidents where wiring is damaged
by collision reshaping body parts. Seen it many times in used cars and shoddy
repairs of junk yard cars in Utah.
my2cents; good comment, however, a fuel tank that is almost empty and full of
fumes, can (but won't always) explode. and I have a question about your
last comment; does that imply that only "shoddy repairs of junk yard cars in
Utah." refers to only in Utah are shoddy repairs done, or that you have no
experience with any other state?
Recently there was a fire involving 2 vehicles in a garage. Neither vehicle
"exploded," though the garage and attached house were heavily damaged
Hopefully they have good insurance. As an insurance agent, I see so many people
that want the bare minimum coverage and they don't realize that things like
this happen and when they do, $15,000 is not enough. Not nearly enough for the 6
other cars destroyed. Extra coverage is not very expensive. Get good insurance
Good point, My2Cents. Another cause of an engine fire can be poor maintenance.
If you have oil leaks, your oil gets low and coolant gets low, your engine could
get hot enough to ignite leaked oil. That fire would eventually ignite numerous
other combustibles in the car's interior, which would eventually lead to
the fuel tank. I have more than once alerted a driver on the road of a fire in
their engine compartment that they didn't see because at freeway speeds the
wind blows away the smoke. Of course, that wind also fans the flame. I can
envision a student rushing to class unaware of a speed-fed fire under the hood
and running into the building leaving a burning car in the parking lot.
Hope they were not insured by Farmers or State Farm (see the story
"Insurance companies sue Army over 2010 Machine Gun Fire in Herriman").
Otherwise they might get sued...
