I've often wondered if "Satan" is like Mr.Slugworth in Willy Wonka
and the Chocolate Factory. You know - secretly works for the Big guy
by tempting the children and testing their integrity.
I haven't read the book, but the story of Adam & Eve shows how clever
the adversary can really be.For example, in Genesis 3, while Satan
was tempting Eve, he said, "Ye shall not surely die [... but ...] ye shall
be as gods, knowing good and evil." This is one of the tactics
he uses to deceive -- he mixes a truth with a lie so it is not as easy to
recognize the error or falsehood. Later in Genesis 3, God said
"[..] Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil."In short, this confirms Satan was right about Adam & Eve able to
become like God, knowing good and evil. But he mixed this truth with the lie of
them not being able to die (physically and spiritually)!
