This game looked like a little league game on tv.
I have to agree somewhat with markymark. This game was not very impressive.
But markymark, if you thought this one was bad. You should have watched the
Copper Hills vs. Hunter game last week. Neither of these teams are what they
have been in the past. And they are touting these two as the regions toughest
this year.I will say this, in years past and even this year so far,
the Syracuse defense is said to be their strength. What I noticed in last
nights game is that 'Cuse knows how to tackle. There are not many yards
after first contact. They wrap people up, I did not see one 'Cuse player
play for the big hit, they wrapped ever single ball carrier up and if he
didn't go down right away. Help was there soon. That was impressive to
me. Now if just all kids could learn this principle, I think it is one of many
of every coaches pet peeves. Wrap up kids, it makes a difference.
The defense has been solid for years, the play calling and clock management is
very much like little league, maybe worse. At least in little league they run
plays in or call one at the line. Davis' ability to call plays at the line
and their sense of urgency were the difference. Play calling, Penalties and
Syracuse' patience keep every opponent in the game.
I'm surprised no one has taken the opportunity to remind us how heart they
have. In any case, it wasn't enough.
The Syracuse defense will keep them in games. They were in this game with 3 min
left. I just don't understand the play calling and the wasting of so much
time. To make the line stay set for so long is impossible. Every drive was
hampered with false start and delay of game penalties. I would guess Davis ran
twice as many plays as Syracuse. It is frustrating to watch, but it has been
that way from the beginning. It is getting old.
These critics of Syracuse football are getting old. You're school is about
five years old and has played in a state championship game and made a trip to
the semi-finals. From my observation, your program is in good hands. Two good
defensive minded teams did battle and Syracuse fell short. But they will be
tough to beat as they have been in recent years when the playoffs come around.
This game was A LOT closer then they made it out to be. I believe syracuse could
have won it if it wasn't for 2 plays that syracuse just gave it to them.
1. Syracuse center does a bad snap and davis gets the ball inside
the 20 and that sets up their first score.then davis scores on a
drive and without the syracuse fumble it would of probably made it 7-72. then syracuse fumbles it again on a punt return and it falls right into the
hands of davis.Without those 2 plays the score would have been 7-7
and who knows how it would of went down. I think syracuse struggled offensively
but were still in the game. Their QB just kept running it and it got nowhere. He
needed to throw a lot more. But what really gets me now that the
game is over is syracuse dropped from 2nd to 10th and they lost to a 5th ranked
team in 5a; lone peak, alta and jordan all lost to good teams and they're
all still up there. I think davis should stay and syracuse takes jordans spot.
