Agreed, at this rate we will lose the greatest sport on earth in under 20 years.
I don't expect football players to be any different from the population People do bad things. Football players are people. Football
programs exist to make money, and winning makes money. I don't
care that football players may make bad decisions more than I care about a
non-football player making bad decisions. Go utes! Onward and
So glad to see someone besides me saying this. The NFL and the NBA have gotten
away with theft for way too long by using college sports as their farm system.
Universities only hurt themselves in the long run by allowing
themselves to be used in this way. I believe the majority of college football
players would still choose to come to school on scholarship over "going
pro" right out of high school, but the players who are there just for the
future payday tend to be the bad apples in college, and purging them from the
college ranks is a win-win for them and for collegiate sports. Some
schools will fight this tooth and nail, as they tend to be magnets for talent at
any cost. Tough. The level of play overall will drop, but competition and
passion for college football will actually increase with a semi-pro option.
I agree college football has lots of problems and it will only get worse, unless
there is DRASTIC change. But, I don't believe every program does these
things that are bad for the university and players. I believe there are
programs/coaches/administrators with honor and integrity who will help turn
their players into men.
The "elite" football teams want to become that semi pro Football league.
