Here goes:I was wrongIt doesn't happen often that
byu beats a good opponent.I am still positive byu will lose for the
fourth year in a ROW to utah though.I was wrong, enjoy it while it
lasts.Becauase in two weeks you will have to come to grips that in
Hoffman and Van Noy's entire careers they went WINLESS against their and
your rival. But tonight, I was wrong
BBeing wrong comes in many shades. In this case you've hit
the nail on the head. But the whole attitude and demeanor are always
wrong too.We try, we honestly try to say you can be a gentleman and
still cheer for your team.Try it, you'll like it.
BYU's front 7 is the best I've ever seen in Cougartown. In my
opinion, they're the best in the nation with 4-5 pros in the making. Texas
looked afraid most of the game and double teams didn't matter. While the
stats didn't show the true damage, KVN is certainly showing that he is an
all-american and should be another first round pick in the spring. He was a man
on a mission and was all over the place, making contributions after being pushed
down or running around the pack. This D will once again be a force to be
reckoned with. Go Cougs! Oh, and Chris B, cheers for man-ning up.
@ Chris B. Everybody is wrong sometimes! We forgive you for being a human.
Congratulations to the Cougars on their impressive showing against the
Longhorns. You got a love that team effort. A true physical beatdown!
There's a business book called Soar With Your Strengths, and that's
exactly what BYU did. BYU had a better game plan, better execution, and enough
great athletes to pull off a big win. KVN, Fua and Kaufusi caused havoc for the
Texas offense. Hill, Williams and Lasike were stellar and could not be stopped.
Hoffman had a couple of good grabs, and with two weeks to rehab his hamstring
should be close to 100% in two weeks. If Hill can improve his passing
accuracy, watch out!
BYU's offense was awesome, BYU's defense was spectacular, Chris
B's admission was priceless.
BYU has given Sooner fans hope.Watching OU play West Virginia, it
became obvious that this year we won't have a passing quarterback. OU was
pulling out formations not seen since the days of Barry Switzer. I walked away
wondering how we'd do this year in the Big 12 without a passing game. Then I watched BYU light up Texas with the same model: strong running
and less than average passing. The Sooners may still struggle in the
conference, but things are looking good for the Red River Rivalry.
Great game for the Cougars of running, kicking (16 points) and defense. The best
thing about passing was it got better as the game went on, if pass completions
continues to improve the Cougars could be a great team. Texas did get 445 yards
which seems like a lot until compared with BYU's 679 yards. The defense did
have some great stops.Taysom running does scare me, I'd hate to
see him hurt even though Ammon seems like a good backup. You did notice that
Taysom ran with a brace on his left knee?Go Cougars!
Quality win, Cougars! I can hear the cries from Austin now. Rain
delay, wet field, etc. causes for our lack of play. But here in Utah we know
how meaningless those factors are! Man up Longhorns - face it your play was
terrible.I couldn't imagine how a team could ranked preseason
4th in the Big 12 and 15th in the country. Now I understand which ranking was
right.Well - it's Conference time. Let the season begin!
Another thought. There are cries of "Fire Brown" and
"Fire Kiffin" after losses this weekend. Losses their fan base
won't tolerate. This could affect football as we know it! From the day
Kiffin was hired some of their fans cried out - wait until he's fired and
well be coming after your coach. Not to worry, Bronco is safe.
Lets get something straight, this was not an upset. An upset is when an
inferior team pulls out a last minute win against all odds over a higher profile
and higher ranked opponent. This game was a beat down. Texas returned
19 starters to a team that finished last season ranked in the top 20. That
consistently pulls in top 5 recruiting classes and regularly competes for
national championships. And BYU dominated them in every aspect of the game.HUGE turnaround for the O-line. 550 yds rushing and ZERO sacks against
one of the best defensive fronts in college football. The defense was stout,
getting 5 sacks and holding a very good UT offense to countless 3 and outs. With
a healthy CB corps, BYU holds Texas to 10pts max. Even with 3rd and 4th string
corners being targeted constantly, BYU held Ash and Co. to 21pts. This defense
is the real deal. I'm cautiously optimistic that the offense
will continue to perform, but it is clearly on the shoulders of the O-line. And
Hill MUST be better passing down field. Luckily we have 2 weeks to make
adjustments and get ready for the though road ahead.
@ Chris B:Just a quick reminder about your promise to not post on
any more Cougar sports articles for a year after BYU beats the Utes (and they
will) in 2 weeks. That will also mean you won't be able to leave any post
game excuses... unless it's just to admit that you were wrong... again!
Black & Blue says "Lets get something straight, this was not an
upset."I agree. It looks like Texas will not be good yet again this
year. Longhorn fans need a change."BYU dominated them in every
aspect of the game."The stat sheet doesn't show BYU dominating
the passing game. Fans who grumbled about having a Riley Nelson style
quarterback last week will be happy until some team stops the BYU running
attack. Yes, 679 total yards is dominating, and but it doesn't hide the
blemish that BYU gave up 445 yards. Its a good win that fans should celebrate,
but there is work to be done.
"Just a quick reminder about your promise to not post on any more Cougar
sports articles for a year after BYU beats the Utes (and they will) in 2
weeks."I would have thought that'd be the exact opposite of
what the consequence should be. Isn't that what he'd prefer if BYU
beats Utah? On the contrary, he should have consented to having to post every
day afterwards. Not posting for a year just allows him to avoid eating crow.
SoonerUteI'm glad you can copy and paste from my comment. But
if you read a little lower I clearly state that Taysom needs to improve on
passing down field. And the only reason Texas has more passing yards is because
they HAD to pass. They were down at least 2 TD'S the entire 2nd half. Why
would BYU pass the ball when they rushed for 350 in he first half and 550 for
the game? Sorry but your argument is weak. Of course Texas had more
passing yards, they were playing from behind most the game and they were trying
to expose a depleted CB position. And I actually thought Taysom came
out and threw the ball fairly well in the 2nd half. But there is definitely room
for improvement. This win was huge because of momentum. And I think we
saw one of the biggest turnarounds in BYU history. It was like a different team
took the field against the Longhorns. Again, I'm cautiously
optimistic about the road ahead.
How many plays did Texas run? Even with the high number of three and outs,
which don't rack up many yards, the fast pace of the game means what, that
Texas basically played an extra quarter? An extra half?I don't
know, but I am less worried about the yards given up than the long balls that
burned us. It looks, though, like one way to defend the depleted cornerbacks
is to blitz with them. Risky, but less so than just playing back and trying to
keep everything in front of you. I also love the commentators who
are so concerned on behalf of BYU fans for Taysom's supposed inability to
throw the ball. Keep telling yourselves that, if it helps. The
offense fixed an awful lot of awful things in one week. Taysom has the ability,
just hasn't gotten it done. Yet. I think they'll get that fixed too.
I listened to the post game comments by Kyle Van Noy I thought He said it was
his super bowl because of the three loses. Maybe I heard it wrong or was it Mr
Call who heard it wrong.
The O-line was as good this week as they were bad last. Highly admirable to take
yourselves to account and get gritty about improving. That's character!!!!
Stay on that tack and don't get cocky, and you'll have the college
football world gushing about you all. This past week has seen one of the
greatest turnarounds in college football history. Think about it. Remember it.
Get better every day. Now you you know you can do it, and you know how to go
about it. BYU finesse has gone smashmouth!!!!Gotta love it!!!!!!!!!Crush 'em Cougars!!!!!!!
I'd rather Utah teams don't play each other.Beating up on
each other, doesn't help national exposure.
