While we all knew this was coming, I still find it a bit disturbing...
especially the lack of preseason road tests. I just don't see how this
helps the team get sufficiently ready and tested prior to Pac 12 play. The youth of this team is still a big deal this year so I'm trying to be
patient with the schedule thing. That said, there won't be a good excuse to
not have a healthy upgrade in preseason schedule for 2014-15.Go
Why not schedule more instate games? Weber, Southern Utah, and UVU?
motorbike, additionally, there won't be a good excuse to come out of
non-conference with the same record as last year. Boise State, BYU and Fresno
State are the only ones we shouldn't be heavy favorites in.
Patsy Schedule equals No NCAA tournament...Again!
PastaThe Utes are too scared to play Utah State, Weber State,
Southern Utah, or UVU anymore, especially on the road.Since
they're not good enough to win more than 4 or 5 conference games, they need
to schedule at least 10 automatic OOC wins every year just to have a chance to
finish above .500.
With the stregth and difficulty of the conference games, the preseason games
make for a nice warm up and alows the new players to asimilate into the program.
We are not shooting for a NCAA birth this year. I think the goal should be a NIT
invite then next year contend for the PAC-12 conference championship and making
the NCAA tourney.
Rockarolla"Patsy Schedule equals No NCAA
tournament...Again!"coach small k is just trying to save his
jobby scheduling 10 OOC patsies, the Utes are hoping to win 10 games
before they open conference play; then, all they have to do is win 5 conference
games to finish with another "respectable" 15-18 record
u25Don't kid yourself; the Utes don't have a chance of
competing for a PAC 12 championship.Getting to the NIT might be
possible this year or next, but the Utes don't have anywhere close to the
talent necessary to compete for a PAC 12 title.
Coach K is just trying to save his job? That's almost comical. Look at how
he has turned this team around. 2 years ago they were possibly the worst team in
a major conference, he then took them to wins vs 4-5 NCAA tournament teams last
year, including beating a ranked Oregon team and getting to the PAC-12 semi
final game. How far did byu get in the West Coast Conference tourney? Oh yeah,
that's right. Coach K now has a top 20 recruiting class coming in next year
this team is on the rise quickly.
TanMan_101coach small k took the Utes from
6-25(overall), 3-15(PAC), #274 RPI, with losses to Boise State and
UNC-Ashvilleto 13-17(overall), 5-13(PAC), #161 RPI, with losses to
Sacramento State and SMUAt their current rate of "progress",
it'll take the Utes at least two more years just to reach .500 in
conference. That's why Hill had to build in at least 10
automatic out-of-conference wins into the schedule to protect his coach by
making it appear that Utah's overall record was respectable.btw, How far did Utah get in the NIT tournament? In any
post-season tournament? When was the last time the Utes won a game in
the NCAA tournament?7 in a row, 11 of the last 12, 149-145 overall -
BYU owns U in basketball.
TanMan_101Thanks for bringing this thread back down to earth. Coug
fans either aren't very observant or they're simply in denial. The Ute
bball program is DEFINITELY on the rise and Coach Krystowiak's job is about
as secure as they come.
Coach K has a ton of goodwill at Utah, the job he has done is incredible. If
you cant see that, it's simply because you don't want too.
@MidpacmajorYour math is a little off. If Utah continues to improve
by 7 wins each year as your thread shows, within 2 years they are actually going
to be national champions, not barely .500WAHOO!
TanMan_101two words: reading comprehensionThe Utes only
improved by TWO wins in conference, from 3-15 in 2011 to 5-13 in 2012.Assuming the same rate, 7-11 in 2013, and 9-9 in 2014, it will take them two
more years just to get to .500.Don't be fooled by Utah's
ridiculously easy pre-season schedule that Hill has used the last two seasons to
pad Utah's win total. Unfortunately for U, Hill can't fill Utah's
entire schedule with the likes of EVERGREEN, whoever that is.
Not sure why anyone can't seem to address the fact that Coach K is doing a
great job and bringing that program up great!
TanMan_101"Great" is all a matter of perspective.
Come on U, come play the Ags in the Spectrum!!!
Playing pre season games on the road does not guarantee TV coverage since the
home team controls TV coverage. Teams come into the Huntsman Center and are put
on the PAC 12 net. Most smaller programs probably prefer it that way. They get
on TV. But I do agree that more away games would probably benefit Utah's
prep for PAC 12 conference play.BTW BYU fans, if you want to see the
Utah vs BYU game this year and you do not come to the Huntsman Center you are
going to have to pay to watch it on the PAC 12 net.
DutchmanLOL at your delusion; the PAC Net is already included in the
same basic sports package as ESPN and ESPN2; no additional purchase necessary.
Dutchman"Playing pre season games on the road does not guarantee
TV coverage since the home team controls TV coverage."Television
coverage on the road is not a problem if you play a legitimate opponent.
