we just sold our home 2 months ago - we are downsizing and building a smaller
cheaper home. The market was pretty good and now our new home will have the roof
on before the first snow. The advise we got from our lender was to make this all
happen in the summer and fall BEFORE winter because from a sellers stand point
selling moves to a crawl during the holidays and really doesn't pick up at
all until March. No one wants to have to move - in or out - during the holidays
or in the dead of winter freeze so it may be true you might be able to pick a
deal from a desperate seller during the winter months they will be few and far
between. From a sellers standpoint listing a home after the first snow usually
means your home will set there for months on the market which is a really bad
thing. I would say just the opposite from this article.. the best times to buy
and sell are from March through September.

September simply because there are many more homes on the market to choose from
plus moving in the deep freeze of winter is a pain. Also looking at a home in
northern Utah in January for example you can't see the yard at all due to
the snow. The grass may be dead for all you know. The only way I would think
about buying in the dead of winter is if the home is greatly reduced in price
because of a desperate seller. Probably worth the risk.
