It is my understanding the Utah laws require that the cops have a warrant which
limits the purpose of the checkpoint and requires that they publish the location
of any checkpoint in advance. This article says checkpoints will be put up
across the State, but it does not give locations. So Des News, just exactly
where and when are these across the State checkpoints going up? The Utah
Supreme Court requires it, the media is supposed to publish it.
For some holidays are times to relax and enjoy being an american and living the
life of peace and pursuit of happiness. But for the cities is windfall tax day
to punish those in the pursuit of happiness and freedoms. Its not
really necessary for the cities to set up roadblocks in the pursuit of criminal
revenue acquisitions without due process of representation in tax revenue
criminal stalking of citizens, specifically for the purpose of profiteering on
the most expensive fine on the books and ordinances. Profiling for profit is
what holidays are for city government.
Fitz How many people will lose their lives this weekend? What do you want
UHP to do about it? I would rather have the cops take aggressive action and
prevent these tragic accidents in the first place. Utah drivers are out of
control. I drive everyday for a living. I have seen it all. We need more
troopers on the road.
I think it is better that they are not published. It shouldn't make a
difference to any driver unless they are doing something they know they
shouldn't. I want my family to be able to enjoy being on the road and not
have to worry about irresponsible drivers that don't care about
anyone's safety including their own. If they would respect the law and be
free of alcohol and drugs we wouldn't have to have checkpoints. And many
more people would still be alive and enjoying life with their families.
Dear My2Cents - your rights to pursue "happiness and freedom" end when
your impaired driving rams into my car and kills my kids. Those
roads belong to the city, and honestly? they can do what they want with them.
If you have a problem with what the city does with its property - move, or just
don't drive on them. It never ceases to amaze me how everyone here the
"NIMBY - Not In My BackYard" attitude.Let me ask you
this.,,, is it more convenient for you to be dead? or maybe your spouse? or
Kids? or parents? Maybe its ok to let someone else's family be killed
because its just too inconvenient for you to stop? If these ckpoints
weren't effective, they wouldn't do them. The fact that they ARE
effective should chill you to the core. The fact that people actually have to
pay the fines you complain about means that they are out there driving drunk and
the rules of society were created for the protection of "LIFE".
"If you are not doing anything wrong you shouldn't worry"? Sure you
bet, tell that to the many people and the lives one trooper ruined. She may be
off the streets but she is probably not the only one doing what is necessary for
Trooper of the year. Papers Please, Papers...
