Will BYU ever schedule UVU? I find it perplexing this hasn't happened yet
considering that UVU has been a bit more competitive than Utah and the proximity
of the two schools.
Very impressed with the non-conference schedule. I'm predicting BYU will
be around 25 wins with a borderline NCAA invite. However, this will be the last
year of borderline. Over the next five years, BYU basketball will improve in
strength each year and be recognized as a national power.
Sir Steven,I agree that UVU would be a better opponent than the U and
certainly closer. UVU draws more fans the Utah so it would be fun to watch.
While it could certainly be done without the venom aimed at Utah, I agree that
BYU really should start consider scheduling UVU. As currently constituted, UVU
may be one of the better teams in the WAC (not the best, as I assume that title
belongs to New Mexico State) and is a game I imagine most local fans want to see
happen. Still, which game do you drop? Despite the opinions listed
here, you can't drop Utah for Utah Valley, so that leaves only North Texas
and Prairie View A&M, both of which are probably a push when compared to
UVU. Still I lean toward the Wolverines and hope BYU gets it done at some point.
Very good schedule! Kudos to BYU for keeping the in state games. I guess the
Utes are too scared to play the Wildcats after their last trip to the Purple
i'm slightly disappointed in the final schedule. Keep in mind that the WCC
from top to bottom is worse than the MWC so there will be plenty of blah games
once conference play starts. The Marriott Center schedule is very
underwhelming.....Gonzaga, Iowa State great ones, Weber St., St. Mary's, a
few other WCC teams are OK, and then the rest (the majority) are against a bunch
of bottom feeders (well at least teams that are like +150 in the computer
rankings). In the future BYU totally ought to schedule UVU instead
of a team like Prarie View A&M. The UVU game would be much more interesting
to local basketball junkies. Instead BYU takes the cowardly approach - that to
even acknowledge UVU and play a game against them might help the local
competition so must be avoided. BYU ought to take the Christian approach and
schedule them and hope the paying it forward comes back to help BYU sometime in
the future when they try to schedule more persuade more interesting teams to
come to Provo.I'd love to see if BYU has tried to schedule NM
or SDSU or UNLV for a non-conference game.
I'm slightly disappointed. WCC has so many weak to average teams that BYU
needs to start especially bulking up the non-conference schedule. Would be
great if they replaced the North Texas game and the 2 CBE garbage games with
UNLV, New Mexico, and San Diego St. should replace Prarie view with UVU. Based
on last year there could be only 2 tournament teams on this non-conf. schedule -
Iowa St. and Oregon. Witchita St. is a potentially great matchup but Cougs
probably have to beat Texas to make that one happen. Weber St., Stanford,
Texas, and Utah St. are quality games although likely not top 50 rpi matchups.
Umass is a good one. good to keep the in-state game with Utah. St. Mary's
will probably be down this year so in all of WCC conference play BYU will
probably only get 2 top 50 rpi matchups - home and away vs. Gonzaga.
