Memo to football coaches in the state of Utah, when your offense plays fast
defenses wear down fast. Which is great when you're playing someone else,
but not so great when you are playing against yourself in fall camp and injuries
begin to mount.Solution: give the first and second team defensive
units some rest. Get the 3rd and 4th stringers out there occasionally to
provide some physical relief to prevent bodies from wearing down and getting
injured. What Utah fan wants to face a decimated BYU roster in
September? Likewise, I'm sure BYU fans want to face the very best players
at Utah. This is bad news for both schools and the coaches need to wake up,
make adjustments and give their 1st and second string defensive units more rest.
Man I bet the all the coaches in Utah are thanking their lucky stars that there
is a savant like U 90 around. Who could have possibly considered resting
players during practice. Surely there are light bulbs going on all over the
state. His years of experience in coaching methodology as well as his PhD in
Exercise Science clearly qualify him as an expert on the subject of injury
prevention.Though not a coach in Utah here is a big "good on ya
mate!" from coaches everywhere. Where would we be without fans like you?
My advice to any WR switched to CB is that when the ball is thrown your way
catch the ball.To the DNews reporters: What has been the average for
Utah and BYU pre-season injuries over the past five years. Don't just
claim things. Do research and support your theories. At least ask the programs
what is typical.
Bronco needs to practice what he preaches. He is famous for saying "we
needed to execute better" after ever loss.Execution trumps speed
i.e; (Nitro) offensive. Look at Lombardi with the old option, Saban with the pro
style offense, Urban runs the spread offense and all have been very successful
with out "Nitro". They all expected flawless execution.Bronco needs to learn how to coach and stop trying to find that special niche.
His silly Nitro offense should be shelved in the brilliant ideas trophy case
next to Spirit, Honor & Tradition jerseys.Bronco needs to be
careful or he will be short a few players to get down in that famous three point
stance before running on the field. they'll all be to tired!Bronco; the gift that keeps on giving year round.
bbandlax,Actually I have three PhDs (jk).Hurry up
offenses are new to both Bronco and Kyle. Your post assumes they are in
complete control and already know what their doing in this area. I disagree.
Apparently they are not familiar with the day to day wear and tear a hurry up
offense can have on the most used defensive players. Otherwise, how do you
explain the rash of injuries occurring within both programs during the inaugural
year of their hurry up style? Coincidence?Bronco & Kyle would
be wise to start making adjustments in practice now.
U 90 I was going to be impressed with the 3 PhD's. Even more so if one was
in Exercise Physiology. Look you may be correct about what they know and
don't know. However I always lean towards giving the benefit of the doubt
to a coaches knowledge, especially at this level. They do make adjustments every
single day. Our access is very limited. Just because you and I don't know
what they are does not mean they are not happening. This is not their
first rodeo. Anae has seen this run before, and I guarantee they have reached
out to others who have run similar schemes. Coaches share much more than many
realize. I have been inside that (BYU) program, although many years ago, and I
know there is a great deal of injury prevention going on. I'm sure the
same can be said for the Utah program.I don't have stats to
back this up, but my gut and experience tells me this year is a typical year
(maybe on the high side) for injuries. They happen even with the very best of
conditioning, rest, training, etc... Just my $.02Cheers
Ya, because you're all so much smarter than Bronco Mendenhall and Kyle
Whittingham. I'll bet those two will read this article and these comments
and say "Gee, I wonder why I never thought of that myself". You guys
are a barrel of laughs.
