“I think it’s really competitive,” Skyline coach Steve Marlowe
said. “It’ll be nice to play with those Utah County schools. Orem is
going to be really, really good. We played them in 7-on-7 at BYU and beat them,
but you can just tell they’re a very good team.” Here
is my predicted order of finish:1. Skyline - they've already
beaten Orem at BYU2. Orem - only loss in season will be to Skyline3. Timpanogos - has most potential4. Murray - year of the playoffs
for Sparta5. Mt. View - will lose a heartbreaker and will stay home from
the dance6. Olympus - sorry, but your best years are behind you7.
Corner Canyon - 1st year school, may beat Oly or Mt View
@Golden Helmet are kidding me?! Beating a team, Orem in 7 on 7 is nothing -
where do you believe something like that carries any weight? If the team that
won the 7 on 7 would say the same thing, "it doesn't mean
anything". Olympus 6th? This years group of Olympus kids have outscored
Skylines same group over the past three years from sophomore on up 60 - 9, if
you want to include Freshman year, add an additional 40 points. Plus 14 of the
22 starters on Olympus' team that beat Skyline last year were Juniors. If
any year was a down year for Olympus, it was last year and they still beat
Skyline. Skyline has 4 maybe 5 returning starters, mostly lineman, plus you are
grooming a new QB and a new offense. You'll make the playoffs, but no
region title. Corner Canyon is the variable in the group.
@wiseacre - best of luck this year. You'll need it.
@Golden Helmet - no rebuttal on my post, just a "best of luck. you'll
need it" Enjoy your rose colored glasses.
@wiseacre beating Orem in 7 on 7 is obviously something. They are a strong
passing team. Their coach is well known for his ability to coach his offenses
to stretch out defenses and deliver the ball. They're returning arguably
the best receiver in the state. Add the component of the run game, which we are
superior, and it's game over, especially, as you stated, our returning
starters are on the line, not to mention the transfer from Highland. Regarding our ugly, red-headed step-sister Olympus, don't you think those
numbers are just a little off? You may want to reexamine last year's JV
game between the two. Bringing little league into the picture? Desperate are
we? Enjoy turning in your pads mid-October. The real dilema this year will be
to decide on the color of the rock, vegas gold or navy blue?E-A-G-L-E!
