Listen to this quote from yahoo sports article I easily found by googling his name:

"Cook also a teammate and friend who are also being recruited by BYU. Teammate Randy Beggs is a db who really performed well at the Rivals Camp Series in CA, and friend Damien Mama who is building a large list of offers. "We talk about BYU all the time; we talk about what we could do at BYU and how we can win a National Championship if we all went there," said Cook."

    LOL!

Remember the last high profile kids who publicly talked about going to BYU to win a national championship?

    Jake Heaps - gone
Zac Stout - kicked out off team.

Nothing says "fits in at byu" like talking about a national championship!

    In another article on Cook:

"We talk about BYU all the time; we talk about what we could do at BYU and how we can win a National Championship if we all went there,"

    LOL!

What is it with these sunday school boys who truly think they can help BYU win a national championship!

No other program in the country has a coach with a .200 record against top 25 teams and has kids and coaches that talk so much about their upcoming national championship!

About ready to print those "quest for perfection" t shirts with this kid?

It worked so well last time - for US!

    LOL

In addressing purely his commitment, this is a big get for byu.

I'll point out that the average stars of the NFL first rounders for 2013 was 3.53.

So even if one in a million stories like Ziggy, the AVERAGE was a 3.53

    What does this show?

Even though SIGNIFICANTLY more kids are give 2 and 3 stars, there were enough 4 and 5 stars to bring the average up.

I guess 2 star sunday school boys stay 2 star sunday school boys!

    christy

Remind us how many Top 25 teams Utah has beaten since their high water mark in 2008.

The truth is, Utah has been in steady decline since their flash-in-the-pan Sugar Bowl season and the Ute faithful are beginning to panic.

BYU and USU finishing in the Top 25 and going to bowls while the Utes are home watching bowl week from the comfort of their couch has left the Utes with no option but to try to tear down the accomplishments and goals of other programs, since the Utes don't have anything going for themselves except a box full of PAC 12 stickers that they continue plastering over everything that will hold still long enough.

Dear Chris B. You never hear that talk from Utah, because they know it simply is never going to happen at Utah, no matter what. BYU has a shot, but many things must fall into place. Utah never, ever.

Nice to have you aboard Tyler. Here's some of the info the article leaves out...

Scout rates 3-star, #77 in position, and notes a 4.51 forty time.
Rivals also rates 3-star, #49 in state of California
ESPN rates 3-star, grade of 74, #91 positional, #136 regional, and #88 in state

Held offers from AZ, Boise State, CU, CSU, Duke, Fresno St, Hawaii, Kansas St, Miami (FL), Nevada, SJSU, USU, Vandy, Washington St, and Yale.

    Good get? You betcha!

christina if BYU signs a linebacker you can be assured he is good. If utah signs a linebacker there is about a 1 in 30 chance he is any good. I know very little about this kid, or any recruits for that matter, but when it comes to linebackers I'm going to go ahead and give Bronco the benefit of knwoing what he is doing, the results speak for themselves.

Oh by the way, utah would dearly love to have this kid, they just weren't a consideration for him.

    @Cougarblue,

"BYU has a shot, but many things must fall into place"

    LOL!

If you took EVERY "quality win" bronco has in his entire 8 years at BYU and combined them all, it wouldt be good enough to merit a national title game invitation.

And you think he can do better than that, in ONE year?

    LOL!

P.S. Utah in 2008 ended #2 in the country.

And how close has byu come lately?

    LOL!

In other news, Chris B has been given a 2-star rating by SLC's coed softball leagues. Chris B plans to appeal the rating as he feels his three-game hitting streak last summer is proof that he is at least a 4-star prospect.

Welcome aboard Tyler; you're going to fit right in with a program that's not afraid to set their sights on the highest achievements possible.

While other programs fret about not even being able to beat a conference foe with a winning record, elite, legacy programs are not afraid to dream of achieving the same high achievements of their predecessors.

The kid plays very large, moves standing up with terrific quickness, and his grades are in line with what BYU expects. Maybe the best part for BYU coaches is that Tyler is insurance Fred Warner is also heading for Cougarville his committment secure. Reports are that USC has gone heavy in trying to pry Fred out of BYU's hands. It's hard not to see how Kyle Van Noy has benefited from the system making him the most talked about defensive player in the west, If you are a 3.2 plus student a highly regarded LB'er, who doesn't want to be the next KVN? A very good pickup.

The top prospect in the nation could commit to BYU and Chris B will find something negative to say about him. Even if football scouts were to say one of BYU's commits was better than anyone in the NFL in his position, in Chris B's eyes he will always be a 2-star choir boy.

That being said, I'm sure Tyler Cook will be a great addition to BYU football. Go Cougars!

Wow two years of being kicked around the PAC and then staying home really gets to the Yutz fan. But then the basketball team surely is doing well to make up for it right? Ah an ump, Guess not even worse. Well all that Kyle Van Noy and how great BYU's defense is along with the outstanding basketball recruiting has to be a downer so I get the jealousy it's cool. Mr Cook has one list of offers, 'Zona, Boise St, BYU, Colorado the Yewts nemesis, CSU, Fresno St, Hawaii, Kansas, Miami, Nevada, San Jose St, Vandy, Washington St, Yale. With Oregon and ASU promising offers , he has impressed the football world, nice job by BYU.

  • Duckhunter Highland, UT
    Aug. 8, 2013 1:48 p.m.

Damien Mama, the huge offensive guard from california and one of Cooks friends, would be the recruit that put christina, azute, naval, howie, etc. into an absolute tailspin. utah is not even a consideration for him but BYU is right at the top of his list. It would be fun to get a committment from him if for no other reason than to watch the mass suicides on the hill and on these boards.

Oh and BYU seems to be in the running for "best in the nation" recruits like Mama, Haloti Ngata, or Jabari Parker, somewhat regularly. Every couple of years in one sport or another. And BYU sometimes gets the number one recruit in the nation, Jake Heaps, Ben Olson, that big offensive lineman from yexas a decade or so ago. But I don't even remember utah even beng a consideration for any "best in the nation" recruit in any sport.

I guess that is just one of the benefits of being one of the most important institutions of the LDS church and having millions of kids dreaming of attending.

    @Duckhunter,

And yet with millions of kids "dreaming" of playing at byu, Utah has had a better recruiting class ever since we EARNED a Power conference invite.

Both by average stars AND head to head.

So even though "millions" want to go to byu, when most kids have offers to byu AND Utah,

where do they pick usually these days?

    Utah

    Utah

    Utah

Keep those LOL's coming. Your comments generate more laughs than anything else on this paper. You should be a college football sports comedian. If you are actually writing your thoughts with a straight face, you are setting yourself up for one gigantic fall on September 21st. The more you disparage BYU, the worse Utah's loss is going to look when they play.

Just 6 more weeks, and then we get to enjoy an entire year without anymore posts from you on BYU articles... assuming you are a person of your word. I can hardly wait!

Utah has had a supposedly better recruiting class ever since U stumbled into a Power conference invite, according to christina, yet U still only have the 9th best logo in the conference...

and your team isn't even that good.

  • Tators Hyrum, UT
    Aug. 8, 2013 3:05 p.m.

    Chris B:

Something else. Utah didn't EARN their PAC invite. They got it be default when Texas turned it down. BYU probably would've had a major conference invite before Utah if they were willing to play on Sundays. Kudos to them by sticking by their principles.

And what has Utah done since joining? Doormat. It's too bad they can't figure out how to equate stars by players' names with conference wins. I haven't read of any online publication that has predicted the Utes will have a winning year. None.

I have nothing against coach Kyle or any of his players. But I'm not looking at their program thru rose colored glasses either... like you obviously are. The reality is that all of those 3 and 4 star recruits will probably be watching others play in bowl games after this season ends... just like last season.

The fact that Utah is in the PAC-12 will impress me and a lot of other non-Utah folks once they start winning more conference games than they lose. Hasn't happened yet. Until it does, there truly isn't much to brag about.

Anyone sense panic settling in with Chris B this year? All he can talk about is BYU. In fact he is consumed with everything BYU. We all know that this is a smoke screen to deflect attention away from the mess on the hill they some people call a football team. Don't even get me started on basketball. Maybe we could talk skiing, however. That is a bright spot.

    Cougar Blue,

We can both agree that Chris B is over the top. Utah is not as good and BYU is not as bad as he insinuates.

However, your comment that BYU has a shot at the NC is naive. Listening to a group of College Football insiders yesterday talk about inclusion in the 5 Power Conferences as being a pre-requisite for getting to the NC game. Which I agree, otherwise how do you explain TCU, BSU, Utah and Hawaii going a combined 91-0 over seven season and none of them made it to the NC.

Actually BYU created it's own problem here by winning the 84 NC. The Cougars forced the power conferences to create the BCS and ultimately the current college football structure.

Mind you, I did not say BYU didn't deserve the NC in 84, it just happens to be the most disputed in the history of college football. If you put your reality glasses on, you will realize that Utah has a one in a million shot at an NC, and unfortunately BYU has a zero in a million shot.

Good get for BYU and Bronco. I was really hoping we'd get this kid. Good size and tremendous speed. Bronco is really dialed in with getting blazing fast linebackers to BYU and Cook will be another in a long line of them during his tenure.

I'm really liking how the Cougs are shaping up for the next few years in both FB and BB... I predict top 25 finishes in both for the forseeable future...

Folks like Chris B can flaunt the BCS thing all they want, but if I am a recruit and I see a kid that wasn't even known in NCAA football before last year become the number 5 overall selection in the NFL Draft, from a team that finished 3rd in the NCAA in defense last year, I am going to have a very positive impression of that program.... Then throw on top of that schedules that have that program playing solid teams from numerous BCS conferences coast to coast and being assured that you will be on TV every week ESPN, NBC, FOX or BYUtv you got to be interested in that program... ND, Texas, GT, Boise State, Wisconson, Nebraska, Michigan, West Virginia and a couple of PACSchools here and there (USC, Stanford, Arizona)...

There is simply no way one can say that this is not an elite program that deserves serious consideration...

  • Chris B Salt Lake City, UT

    poyman,

"There is simply no way one can say that this is not an elite program that deserves serious consideration..."

There is simply no way a program whose 8 year head coach had a .200 record against top 25 teams can be considered an elite program.

Elite programs don't go .200 against top 25 teams.

    They are at LEAST .500

And you're MILES away from that even

  • Wiscougarfan River Falls, WI
    Aug. 9, 2013 9:35 a.m.

I think Chris B. has a legitimate beef with this recruit... after all ESPN only ranks him as the 8th best BYU recruit for the class of 2014. It's got to be tough when your rivals eighth best player is getting quality scholarship offers from teams all across the country. Kinda destroys the whole "we're the best because we're in a BCS conference" schtick, doesn't it?

  • Truth Machine Salt Lake City, UT
    Aug. 9, 2013 10:33 a.m.

    Chris B

"Elite programs don't go .200 against top 25 teams."

    Utah's all-time record against Top 25 teams is .160

Utah will NEVER, not in a MILLION YEARS, EVER get to even a .250 record against Top 25 teams.

How many Top 25 teams has Utah beaten since your flash-in-the-pan 2008 season?

btw, please provide us the complete list of teams that have at LEAST a .500 record against Top 25 teams.

I'll bet you won't be able to find more than half a dozen such programs, if any, that have played 20 or more Top 25 teams and have a lifetime .500 record against Top 25 teams!

Take as long as you need. We'll be waiting.

    @ Chris B

It's an honor that you would take time from your trivial and inaccurate comments to respond to me... Thank you.
I have so much that I want to say to you based on some of your comments...

    1) BYU has won a National Championship, something Utah will never do (at least not in our lifetimes);

    2) That gives BYU license to actually talk about what it takes to win a NC, whereas Utah simply doesn't have the Resume to do so;

    3) What good does it do to have a couple more stars for your recruits when you are still picked to be the 3rd best team in the state??? Aren't stars for recruiting suppose to indicate the Power or Strength of a team??? BYU (Low 30's)and Utah in the 60's again... Heck, there's only 126 FBS programs and only 65 BCS members... According to virtually every expert the Uties are picked to be one of the absolute worst teams again this year in all of the BCS...

(It's also interesting to note that Utah ranks 64th out of 65 BCS Teams in Revenue Generation... Hmmm, I guess "Strength" does follow "Money".)

Duck: "But I don't even remember utah even beng a consideration for any "best in the nation" recruit"

I mean, come on... you're really going to make it that easy? The nation's best TE recruit (whom BYU also went hard after) has Utah in his top 5 this very year. That means, unless he commits somewhere early, he will take an official visit to all five schools. Mama has BYU in his top 13 and has been busy setting up visits at Alabama and Wisconsin, decreasing the chance that BYU will be a factor. It'd be fantastic for BYU if they could get him (although at G/T he's not at a position that would be a major impact in the game, similar to a few years ago when Utah actually DID get the "best in the nation" JUCO recruit as an OT), but calling being in his top 13 any major consideration is a little over the top.
