Poutasi will straight abuse any/every defender placed before him! There's a reason Scout rated him a 4-Star recruit out of H.S. w/a long list of offers from the big boys of College Football [i.e., Oregon] and starting as a True-Freshman! W/even a mediocre O last season, we would've easily finished w/a winning record against a strong SOS!

I can't wait to see our enormously huge/athletic hogs up-front get to work in '13! Go Utes!

I hope all these guys can stay healthy. The Utes O-line was the biggest weakness last year so improvement is a must. I'm happy to hear that it is now a position where we have a little depth in case someone gets hurt or just needs to sit out a few plays. Last year we were plugging holes with guys that had no experience.

Keep it up Utes only a few more weeks until the season begins.

    Can't wait.

    Go Utes!

8-4 season and in contention for PAC 12 title and roses.

    Mark it down

Obviously this is great news for the Utes and I'm happy for them. It's precisely why I try to warn our Cougar fans to be careful with silly predictions. With a lot of inexperience JC transfer kids in the BYU offense this year, it's hard to even imagine them going against all those 300+ lbs poly kids in the Utes o line. I'm nervous about Sept but I also can't wait for it to happen.

Go Cougars beat the Utes! And good luck to the Utes too after we beat them, (I hope)

The O-line depth is guaranteed to be a strength at this point with so many players vying for playing time. The actual weakness/strength of the O-line will only be proven in the actual games. That being said, I like what I am hearing. The O-line should be able to protect the QB and if he does well the team won't have as many problems as last year.

This is the year Utah finally beats Arizona State.

Poutasi is a Beast; it sounds like the Utes are loaded up front and that's a good thing. There's where it all starts.

I remember last year before the season utah "fans", as well as utah coaches and media member's, were telling us utah had "the best set of wr's in the pac 12", the best defensive line in the pac 12", "the best running back in the pac 12", "the best defensive backs in the pac 12", "the best coaching staff in the pac 12", etc.

They were losers. Let's bring on more of that "best" stuff this year.

I think the Oline will be better this year. I am hoping that it leads to more holes for York and Co to run through and more time for Travis to pick the D apart. Still not sold on Travis.

    @duck

    "They were losers."

How'd your team do when they had to face those 'losers' on the field?

It's why you're obsessed with us.

    Poor ducky.

    More of the "best" stuff?

Yeah... how about another "Quest for Perfection"?

Oh, and losers? Not to the Cougars...

Ducky, good to see you're back.

I will give credit to Duckhunter that the defensive line was tooting its own horn a bit too much last year in the pre-season with talks of "we're the best d-line in the nation."

That said, I feel like this o-line crew is young and hungry and will be pretty formidable. That and Whit seems to be adding an extra sense of urgency this year that will hopefully translate to improved play. Improved record, I'll have to see it to believe it given the tougher schedule. But August is all about fan optimism, right?!

Jeremiah is a man-child! I love to see the Vegas kid doing so well. Happy 19th to Poutasi, by the way.

The O-line will continue to get better in '14 as we pick up Barton and Frison. Home grown beasts up front - love it!

Can't wait until September 21 for the fourth annual Tulsa migration!!

Bigsamoan - keep it classy my friend. You're always welcome here!

We won one game- let's have a parade!

We win three games- let's print "Quest for Perfection" T shirts!

I guess you're still on that quest. Try beating Utah at least once and then make your comments about who's alleging to be the best at anything. Go Utes!

I disagree with the weaknesses some say they had last year.
The major weakness is the constant revolving door with coaching staff. We need to maintain some semblance of structure to maintain lofty goals. New staff each year creates chaotic situations all season long.
There needs to be a clear and decisive leadership year in and year out. New OC each year does nothing to build trust and partnership of the future.

How is that any different than BYU fans claiming preseason national championships every year... and then going on to win 7 games?

Hey Tomahawk, show us a legitimate example of a single BYU fan claiming preseason national championship this year in a context of seriousness. If you can show us anything legitimate I'll cease to ever say anything negative about Utah football ever again. Deal?

I'll give you examples of hilarity right in this very article's comments. "8-4 season and in contention for PAC 12 title and roses. Mark it down". How is that any more preposterous than a limited couple of BYU fans delusional enough to actually believe preseason that BYU will win a NC? And the same commenter has made the EXACT same comment on at least a dozen different articles (most of them BYU articles) in the past 2 weeks.

We'll wait for your legitimate BYU NC claim examples.

    @nosairwhatever

5-7 is the definition of losers, sorry to have to lend some reality to the utah "fan" delusion fest but by definition a 5-7 team are losers.

As for the rest, well we'll have to see if they are any better this year. Maybe, maybe not. One thing is for sure though, despite the utah "fan" hyperbole before last season utah did not have "the best" of anything, in the nation or in the pac 12.

    @tomahawk red

The only "fan"base making national championship claims over the last several years has been utah "fans". Once again just go back to last season when one particularly delusional utah "fan" was posting preseason on here under the moniker "utahnatlchamps13" or some such silliness. Other's, like christina, naval, howie, etc. were telling us how last season was going to be "special" how utah was going to win the pac 12 south and go to the rose bowl.

Those are not claims I'm just making up, that is fact and you can go back and review it right here on the dnews.

I like how utah "fans" are the deluded ones but pretend otherwise. Funny stuff.

Is it me, or is Chris B and Duckhunter the same Junior High troll? Consider the similarities:

    Chris B
"We talk about BYU all the time; we talk about what we could do at BYU and how we can win a National Championship if we all went there, LOL!”

"BYU has a shot, but many things must fall into place" LOL!”

    Duckhunter

“The Stretch Y is cool but I don't much care about how it ranks. I do enjoy the utah "fan" angst over it though. LOL!”

“So steel ute and spokane ute come along and just prove they feel major angst as it oozes from their fingers onto their keyboards. LOL!”

    Consider the similarities:
1.They both post on everything UTAH/BYU
2.They both skew facts while ignoring underlying truths
3.They both make outlandish claims to incite responses
4.They both overuse outdated Junior High slang ‘LOL’

They may be big but they are slow and will tire easily as the competition runs circles around them. By the 2nd half of the game they will be sucking wind on the bench while teams march up and town the field to the end zone.
Mark it down - Utah will finish either 3-8 or 4-8 at best.

Nice to see that we're building PAC-12 depth at the OL. I've read about the increase in depth at the RB and QB positions as well.

After the last 2 years I'll think it's and wait and see at QB position with Wilson, Cox, and Manning. But I can't recall the last time we had three young talented QBs.

Since we're recounting unforgettable games from our histories The 47-7 TCU throttling of the #5 ranked Utes on national TV "on your own turf" comes to mind.

Bad days can happen to good teams. Of course dropping from #5 to out of the top 25 in only a few weeks made a pretty hefty thud and pretty well solidified that the Utes were never really very good that year in the first place.

When is TCU history "your" history?

Yes we were punked by the #2, undefeated 13-0, team in the nation. I give props to TCU, a legit team.

Since you brought it up, remember when Provo danced in the streets, lit fire works, and celebrated at Provo airport a 1-0 Quest to a #7 ranking?

Yes of course you remember, that was you best team since 1996. What happened in week 3 @LES?

    FSU 58
    BYU 24

That was the biggest win for FSU that year, only had a winning record because they beat D2 Jacksonville at home 19-9 the week before throttling BYU at LES.

    See the difference?

    ----------

Utah was good enough to go 10-3 and ranked AP/Coaches #26/23 in 2010, just like your 10-3 "good team" in 2011 which was ranked #26/25 .

    The difference?

2010 Utah #26/23 lost to AP #2 TCU, #9 Boise in Vegas, and at #33 ND.
2011 BYU #26/25 lost to AP #14 TCU in Cowboy Stadium, at #30 Texas, Utah @LES.
