Obamacare is a trainwreck already and it punishes the married middle class and
rewards the unmarried middle class. It is an extra strain on every budget except
of course the rich and the poor (as usual). $600 a month to pay for health care
for a 3 member family is ludacris.
Proves what many of us have known all along...Mike Lee is not only
out of touch with America in general, he's not even on the same page
with the even smaller 36% of the population's Republican Party. If Republicans can't agree amongst themselves...Then why on earth
should the remaining 64% of us agree and vote for any of them either?
Romney? Lee? Romney? Lee? hmmmmm Who ya gonna trust?
"our party would suffer in the elections"Party before Country.
That's the problem.
It's NOT Mike Lee who is out touch, but the GOP establishment
and washington DC who is out of touch with the American people.
@BYR 5:08 p.m. Aug. 7, 2013Romney? Lee? Romney? Lee? hmmmmm Who ya
gonna trust?--------------------------That's easy.
Neither of them. I wouldn't trust either of them as far as I could throw
Now that he's not running for anything Romney is beginning to make sense
again. Now see if you can get the House to do something other than voting to
repeal Obamacare 41 times.
"It's not clear how Lee will benefit from his push to defund Obamacare,
Burbank said."Maybe Lee isn't doing this for his own
benefit, maybe he's doing it because it is the right thing to do. I realize
that is a foreign concept to politicians and their followers, to whom this is
all a game. For those of who who stand to lose the most if Obamacare stands,
this is real life.He follows through on this and he has my vote
Most Americans don't want Obamacare. Most certainly most Utahns
don't want Obamacare. So why is it so troubling to Romney and the
pundits that Lee is trying to DO something about it?I didn't hear
Mitt give any suggestions about other ways to stop the train wreck. If
allowed to be implemented it will become another Medicaid (or Medicare or
prescription drug plan or Social Security). It will cost too much, be
unsustainable and not achieve the intended result. We don't need
another Federal Oops! program.
Romney needs to run against Mike Lee. He might win that one!
To Bramabull: I am sorry to tell you but you are out of touch my friend. Go try
and purchase a private plan for a family, the cost for a VERY HIGH DEDUCTIBLE
plan will be more like $900.00 a month. $600.00 a month is a bargain given the
coverage it provides. That is one of the reasons why Obamacare makes sense
because for a lot of people it will make insurance more affordable!. As for
Senator Lee's position on this - it is nonsense in the highest degree. He
is another man who believes that fundamental healthcare for Americans is a
priviledge for elected officials, those with good jobs and the wealthy. There
are many working poor and even those with good jobs whose employers don't
provide decent insurance. Those folks and others may be suffering immensely or
even dying before they seek healthcare due to the ridiculous fees the doctors
and hospitals charge. Heaven help us if we don't see some serious
healthcare reform in this country. Obamacare is a step in the right direction.
Senator Lee, you are an embarrassment to the values that you profess to believe.
In 1960, Healthcare was less than 5% of GDP. Before Obamacare healthcare was
17% of GDP. We have a problem. Medical Insurance IS socialize medicine as it
separates the consumer from the provider. Left to its own Health Insurance will
consume everything. Who originated Obamacare? A CONSERVATIVE think tank that
was endorsed by the Republicans in the 1990s. Obamacare should be called
RepublicanCare. Who else would mandate that everyone participate in Health
Insurance that continues to offer Executives Millions of dollars in bonuses.
And what is Lee's solution? NOTHING except whining about defunding the
Government. Where is Bob Bennett?
Remember Bob Bennett? It's issues and times like these that we need a
statesman not an ideologue. I just hope we voters remember times like this when
it is time to vote for new senator that can truly represent Utah and the US.
"...Utah Sen. Mike Lee dismisses Mitt Romney...".A BIG
endorsement for the political future of Mitt Romney.
The cause is just, but the methodology is foolish.
....and farther down, down the road to oblivion go the Republican Tea
Partiers. Not too long from now, they will be completely out of sight.
The ACA was recently the topic of discussion at work. Everyone present was
opposed to the ACA. However everyone present admitted there are parts of the ACA
they agreed with and supported. A closed friend has cancer. Five thousand a
month for a single shot. $300.00 a month out of his own pocket. Imagine if he
lost his employment and health care. Without the ACA my friend would be
uninsurable and given a death sentence. Come on Republicans. If you detest the
ACA so much come up with a better alternative.
Yeah, I remember Bob Bennett...the guy who, in conjunction with his big
government buddy Orrin gave us a trillion dollar deficit, TARP, no budget, no
principles...Bob Bennett lost because those who've become
involved in Utah politics decided we wanted a conservative representing us, not
a big government guy. Wake up, people. Guys like Mitt Romney, John McCain and
other establishment republicans lose elections because they don't stand for
anything. They try to out-liberal the liberals.
Note to Mitt Romney: when you get beaten in a presidential election as badly as
you did, it's time to keep quiet and let the serious leaders take over.
Obamacare does NOTHING meaningful to reduce the cost of health care but adds
plenty of job-destroying, economic growth-impairing regulatory burden to
American businesses. It is completely unconstitutional, forcing millions of
Americans to purchase a service that they don't want, don't need and
can't afford against their will. It greatly expands power & influence
of government in the private personal lives of American citizens and gives an
already abusive IRS even more power to harass and intimidate honest,
hard-working, law-abiding citizens that refuse to embrace Obama's socialist
dogma. And it cuts pay of doctors over time, ensuring that eventually we will
face a crisis of lack of access to medical CARE—not just
insurance—in the United States the same way that Canada, the UK, and
elsewhere that try government-run health care schemes do. It is a total
monstrosity and the ones who are truly misinformed and out of touch are Romney
and his RINO/Democrat supporters, who gobble up everything the government feeds
them through the media, not patriots like Mike Lee. And the fact
that Republicans came up with it only proves how corrupt the GOP has become.
Oh, Utah, what have you done? When Lee comes up for re-election, you have the
opportunity to fix your mistake.
I side with Mitt Romney on this one. I think Mike Lee could do a better job of
representing Utah by working to bring both sides of the aisle together in a way
that would benefit the public. He will not have my vote again if he continues
to push divisiveness.
And Mike Lee's plan for healthcare in America is what? He's been in
office over two years now and he and his cronies have had time to propose a
better solution, a more cost effective plan, a more compassionate option.
Where's the Republican plan? All I hear is crickets chirping
when I ask that question.
To the Judge who wrote...."Bob Bennett lost because those who've become
involved in Utah politics decided we wanted a conservative representing us, not
a big government guy. " Sorry. Bob Bennett lost because a fringe minority
organized and used our terrible caucus system to override the will of the
majority in an election. Had Lee been forced to meet Bennett in a primary, we
would still be represented by Bennett, and at least from his point something
might be getting done. We can only hope that Mr. Lee has a viable primary
opponent next time. If not in the primary, that the Democrats put up a viable
person. It has become painfully clear that party politics must be trumped by
actually taking care of the country's business. Bless Jon Huntsman and his
crew for the "No Labels" movement. We can pray it pushes movements like
Freedomworks, the Eagle Forum and other far right and left movements, to the
Good 'Ole Mike LeeSenator Fiscally Conservative
ForeClosure...Funny for HIM to be lecturing US to shutdown the
Government for not paying the bills.
Mike Lee plans damage Americans, particularly the middle class. I don't
like his idea that we should be testing nuclear weapons and I do not like his
plan to remove government funding of the Affordable Care Act. IF his plan to
hold the middle class hostage works, not only will insurance for those who had
access to it before the law double in cost, our entire economy would take a
slide as investments such as the stock market would crash. I can't afford
to have Mike Lee's extremism steal my retirement away. Why do we
tolerate extremists in America? Why do we vote for extremists like Mike Lee
here in Utah when conservatives and moderate choices exist? Its just baffling
to me. Extremists on both sides of the political spectrum have destroyed the
American dream, made us vulnerable to terrorism and squandered our
children's educational future away. We need more normal people in politics
that only want to serve those they are to represent.
"CHS 85" hits it on the head. Lee and the GOP have been telling us they
want to replace Obamacare, but other than platitudes and slogans, they have
never presented a concrete proposal. Where are their ideas? What is their
solution? What legislative initiatives have they offered except 40 votes to
repeal? How will they solve the health care mess that we have, that has our
costs at the highest level in the world and near thrid world results? I see
nothing from them, absolutely nothing. No more talking points. Put it on the
line, GOP. But you have nothing.
So we have Medicare, a government endorsed plan. Great.I have a Medicare
supplement that costs a mere $250 a month and it pays everything. What's
wrong with that? What would ObamaCare do for me? Nothing that I can see.Wonder if Mike Lee and other Tea Partiers might take the lead in
denounce the elitism of Congress and other leadership, renounce favoritsm of all
kinds and boldly go where no one has gone before?
I agree let's defund the Government, let's start with Mike Lee's
paycheck, generous pensions and retirement benefits. Then let's make him
pay back the amount that he stuck the tax payers with when he foreclosed on his
half million dollar home and put that money towards the national debt. I'm all for getting rid of the ACA, but I would like to actually hear a
solution for what the Republicans plan on doing to fix our health care mess... I
have yet to see the Republicans proposing any ideas, it seems they are content
to waste their time by repealing the ACA 40 times.
re: BYRRichard Pryor in Brewster's Millions summed it up best.
"None of the above"
How often do you get to see two former BUY student body presidents arguing in
public? Is this foreshadowing a Lee versus Romney(not Mitt) primary
"This is not a left vs. right issue. It is Washington and the politically
powerful vs. the people," the state's junior senator said.______________________________Deja vu all over again, as Yogi
Berra famously observed. So now Mitt Romney is the voice of the Washington
establishment, is he? At least we know that Mike Lee intends to keep the
narrative on dead center. As long as the right wing is thus stuck in one place,
it's got a long way to go before it has anything fresh to offer in the way
Republicans do NOT have to come up with an alternative plan to the horrible and
expensive Obamacare. It is NOT the job of the federal government to
take care of your personal health. That is your responsibility as an
individual and as a citizen.
@the truth"Republicans do NOT have to come up with an
alternative plan to the horrible and expensive Obamacare."You go
ahead and keep believing that. I'm sure you have insurance or have the
means and ability to get health insurance. Now have a pre-existing
condition and try to get an individual insurance plan and let me know how that
works for you. I've seen family members denied insurance because one of
their kids has cerebral palsy. I guess they are less deserving of medical care
than healthy people, right? My brother exceeded his million dollar cap for his
cancer treatments. Now that he is dead, his wife is being threatened with
losing everything they owned jointly together as the hospital attempts to seize
his estate for payment. I guess it is just his fault for getting sick. Why
does his wife and kids need a place to live? Who cares? Certainly not Mike Lee
or his friends. Emergency room medicine and bankruptcy. That the
"compassionate conservative" plan for healthcare. If you
think healthcare isn't a national issue, you are beyond naive.
Mike Lee is not out of touch with ME and that's what I care about. His is
the only office out of our two senators, that shows respect for my wishes, when
I call in to express opinions. Hatch, on the other hand, has become a law unto
himself and shows intractable arrogance as he rubber stamps the liberal agenda
in immigration and elsewhere.
Lee's position makes a lot of sense. Romney may not be following it that
closely. Obama came down with his changes to implementation of the Obamacare
program, which he has no legal authority to do. If the program is being altered
by an illegal process, it makes total sense to withold the funding. That in
addition to it being one of the poorest pieces of legislation ever, which was
passed in contradiction to the promises made by the President of full disclosure
and open debate to formulate the new program.
Mike Lee is an excellent senator. He is a mainstream Utah conservative
Republican. It is the University Professors, the Chamber of Commeerce liberal
Republicans that are completely out of touch with the residents of Utah. The
people who work for a living and have to meet a mortgage and put food on the
table completely relate to Senator Mike Lee. He uses common sense and the
tagging him with tea party support is ridiculous, those are just political
active citizens who liberals hate because they made a big difference in the 2010
elections. Obama and his ilk have sent the IRS after them and perhaps the FEC.
Romney was a great candidate and he may have won Florida, Virginia and Ohio were
not for IRS targeting. Lee and Romney are basically on the same page, a few
eliltes don't want them to be.
@CHS 85I do not have insurance nor have the means and ability to get
health insurance. But I still do not believe it is the responsibility
of the federal government to take care of me. And no hospital or
doctor has refused me the care that I need.
What Romney and other moderate Republicans are forgetting is that the Affordable
Care Act, if allowed to be fully implemented, will permanently harm America and
Americans. It isn't just socialism; it is totalitarian tyranny. It will
put an end to the best medical care on the planet in favor of micro-managed,
rationed, and distributed health care weighed by committee without regard to
convenience, self-determination, or long-standing patient/doctor
relationships. The years I spent living in Canada has convinced me
that we will never get back to health care as we have known it once we kill it
with the ACA. You wouldn't believe the horror stories I could tell you
about Canadian socialized medicine. You don't want to go there. Any
politician who thinks Republican should just let it play out and fail on its own
doesn't realize the permanent harm it will do to America and to We the
People . . . permanently.
honestly I could care less about popularity anymore. You will never win a
popularity contest with the democrat's among low information
citizens...never !! If you sign on and fund Obamacare then this train wreck is
set in stone and you STILL have no support among the Obamacare crowd so who
cares!!!! Senator Lee is speaking practically and suggesting that the ONLY way
left to stop Obamacare is to not fund it and he is correct. Who cares what
propoganda Barack and his crowd of Communists throw out there ... it will happen
regardless. It is time to stand firm and not compromise with the devil. Compromise with the devil is always a losing proposition. Always!!! Let em
shut down the government ...it will be Barack that shuts it down not Mike. Mike
is already said he will fund everything BUT Obamacare and Obamacare is already
forecast as an economy killer by both the GOP and the Democrats.
Senator Lee should read Robert Caro's "Master of the Senate" and he
would realize there is no point fighting battles you have a no chance of winning
let alone make you look foolish. We need more statesmen in Congress
The extreme tea party gets criticized by candidate who was too far to the right.
Only the right wing bloggers support the tea party obstruction and unpatriotic
mitt romneys Massachusetts health care is identical to obama care.
Good job Mike Lee. We need people back there who actually represent the
interests and needs of a working, tax-paying people. We've had too many
who have played footsie with those who want ALL our resources and freedoms for
too long, and look what it's done to us. That nearly $17,000,000,000,000
immediate Federal deficit isn't going to miraculously and spontaneously
dissolve, and even though the central planners deny it, Obeymecare has disaster
written all over it.
I don't know if there is any truth to it, but a former roommate told me
that Mitt and Ann are building a home in Sandy. If it is true, it creates an
interesting possibility. I am sorely disappointed that Mitt lost in November. We
all know what a great job he did for us with the Olympics and many feel he would
have done great things for America if he had beaten Pres. Obama. I still believe
America needs Mitt, even if it is just in the Senate. A primary challenge
against Sen. Lee would be very interesting. I think there would be very high
turnout in the local caucuses, unlike the low turnout that resulted in Sen. Lee
getting the nomination over Sen. Bennett. I think all Utahans need to make their
voices known that they still want Mitt, anyway, in any capacity to help rebuild
America. Mitt wouldn't jump in himself unless we convince him to do it. We
need a grassroots effort to get Mitt to be the next Senator to represent Utah.
Of course, this all hinges on him actually building that home in Utah.
"Romney needs to run against Mike Lee. He might win that one!" No he
won't. We're all figuring Mitt Romney out. We're dumb, but not
I admire Mike Lee's courage and integrity. He's not trying to win a
popularity contest with this. He's trying to help us be free. From the
looks of many of the comments, we may not want freedom as much as we want a hand
out.Patrick Henry is famous for saying "Give me liberty or give
me death." I don't think Obamacare is good for increasing the first
nor decreasing the second.I'm siding firmly with Mike Lee on
My healthcare costs have doubled and my out of pocket deductible is now
$10,000.... And if I get cancer I get a liberal Washington death panel deciding
my fate! Obama promised i could keep mybdoctor and my private insurance if i
wanted too, and didn't the liberal loonies laugh at Sara Palin when she
warned about death panels? ...well no one is laughing now.....leave it to the
left to a psuedo Happy Filner and HUMA Weiner types to be death panel judges,
Mike Lee has evolved into a far right panderer of fundraising. The first day he
went into the Senate he tried to establish a PAC for himself. If I was a
Republican I would be on the phone daily to my party leaders complaining about
this professional do-nothing".
Lee dismisses Romney, everyone dismissed Romney in the election, now please Mitt
tell them you want to be a mission pres
The Republican establishment, of whom Romney is one, is perpetuating this myth
that if Republicans stand up to Obama, the party will suffer, and they cite the
1995 government shutdown as evidence. But I remember those days very well. Yes,
the media beat up on the Republican party over that shutdown, but in the
following election, the Republicans held the house and picked up two seats in
the Senate. These squishy moderate Republicans pay too much attention to the
media which is why they are so out of touch with the people. My
suggestion to Romney is that he come up with an alternative strategy before he
starts criticizing Mike Lee's plan. He says there's a better way to do
this. Really? Then please tell us what it is.
Senator Lee is effective in painting the tea party into an extreme right corner.
He also is raising money for his re-election?
