Rugby Utah has purposefully not reached out to the HSAA for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is we do a much better job of regulating the sport across multiple seasons but also of keeping cost of play reduced far beyond most HSAA regulated sports. With both national and international regulating bodies, our referees and coaches require a significantly higher level of coaching training and certification that the HSAA regulated sports. Perhaps in the future there may be a place but we have found the extracurricular clubs are the perfect approach to the growth of rugby in the state.

One correction: There are 31 ( soon to be 34) boys varsity HS teams, 18 freshman/sophmore teams, 20 middle school teams and 7 girls varsity squads. 2014 will see an expansion of middle school teams as well as introduction of middle school girls teams. Currently there are 61 rugby teams in the state and 625 5-12 yr olds playing summer 7s.
