This is going to be fun season to be an Aggie. The MWC will be a great home for
USU and many of the scheduling problems are gone.
Nice work by Stew and the USU schedulers!! the SEC has been on a recent
downturn but nevertheless getting USC and Mississippi St. to come to Logan is
quite an accomplishment. The Cougs and the Utes will be hard pressed to match
that for lining up non-conference opponents to come to the Marriott Center and
the Huntsman Center respectively.
WOW What a home schedule!
@ caleb in new york" The Cougs and the Utes will be hard pressed
to match that for lining up non-conference opponents to come to the Marriott
Center and the Huntsman Center respectively."The truth is Utah
State is in the most relevant basketball conference in the state. I was a bit
surprised when Stew wanted a tough non-conference schedule but I understand his
logic. The Spectrum is a great pitch for good recruits to come to Utah State,
but now they can say that we play the likes of USC and SEC teams there. Utah
State will be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years in recruiting for
the state. I'll give the slight edge to BYU in basketball recruiting for
the state, but with Utah State being in the best basketball conference in the
state that edge is swindling Utah State's way.
So excited for basketball season! I hate that it interrupts football season, but
oh well, that's just the way it is. This will be a fun season in the
Spectrum. Hopefully we stay healthy and I think we should be pretty good,
despite the difficult schedule.
well aggiealum - the MWC still mostly failed when it counted last year and was
outperformed by the PAC-12 in NCAA tournament play. MWC went 2-5 with 2 teams
advancing to round of 32 and Pac-12 went 5-5 with 2 teams advancing to the round
of 16. So although the MWC is an upgrade over the WCC, its got its work cut out
for it in continuing to go up against the PAC-12. But regardless, things are
looking up for USU and their fans.
Yes Stang, Mississippi State is a team constantly at the top of the SEC West,
and USC could have a good year. I think any of those teams would have loved to
have some of the talent we've had in Logan in the past 6 years like Jaycee,
Tai, Brady, Brian Green, and Spencer Butterfield. I'm willing to bet Pooh
Williams,Tyler Newbold, and Preston Medlin could have made both teams. Which of these players do you not wish played for SUU? (For basketball
reasons, I'm not interested in any personal grievance you have against any
of these guys)
@VAggieNow why would any of those teams love to have some of the
aggie talent when they are winning BCS bowls and National Championships and USU
is just winning the Potato Bowl? That should tell you right there that the SEC
and Pac12 are very different worlds from the WAC 2.0 shouldn't it? We
didn't need them. Sure our record wasn't what people wish it would be
but we didn't need those guys. After all, one of those players you
meantioned had his carrer end after playing SUU. And if they were as good as
you claim then why haven't you ever won a first round match of the NCAA
tournament? Sure sure my guys have never been there but when it comes to making
it and losing after only one game you guys are the kings.
FYI Stew Morril...the BCS has nothing to do with college basketball. And I would
hope you could win most of your games when you play 9 of 12 at home against
powder puff teams like San Diego Christian, Utah Valley and others. Maybe I
would be more interested to go watch these games if the USC and Miss. St
football teams were coming. Until you can bring in some quality opponents and
have a real schedule, don't count on me watching your games.
Stang, I think you should look up the topic again. This is a hoops
Stang, I'd also like to add that we have in fact won a first round game in
the NCAA tournament. We beat Ohio State.
You are right. THis is about basketball. And when did you beat Ohio State
1652? Oh I'm sorry basketball didn't exist then. Which is exactly
why USU would've won a first round match. The point is, in recent memory
they haven't won. In recent memory if they've made it to the dance
they've just been a small bump in the road for a much bigger, stronger, and
overall better team. Do you dispute that VAggie? And in 1652 when you beat
Ohio State, who beat you in the second round?
Stang,It was 2001.It was recent enough that I remember it.
You're also about 350 some odd years off. When is the last time southern
utah ever even made the tourney, have the t-birds ever received an at-large bid?
Simply making the tourney is an accomplishment.
You are the only one. And for the final time we aren't talking about my
team. Simply making the tourney shouldn't be enough for you guys yet it
