Most Mexican restaurants bring you out a platter full of high fat beans, cheese,
sour cream, and on and on... as big as a family serving plate. Now before you
settle into your platter you have probably consumed at least 3 bowls of greasy
chips and salsa along with 2 re-fills of coke. Last time I ate at one of these
calorie killer places I measured the platter to be 18 inches long!!! It was
embarrassing. Most people don't think they are getting their money's
worth anymore unless they feed off of one of these giant troughs. Mexican food
tastes REALLY good but is REALLY bad for you.
Well, since we have put McDonalds all over the world, to the bad health of all,
I guess now that Taco Bell and Del Taco are probably in Mexico, they are reaping
the same bad benefits of American fast food that everyone else is.
After traveling abroad, being back in the US I am amazed how fat people are
here. The food is fattening along with a sedentary lifestyle. People would
rather drive to church than walk even if it is two blocks away. People will
wait a few minutes for someone to back out of a front row parking spot than
walk. So many people addicted to sodas. I have had many sit jobs and co-workers
have to have their soda. People take elevators over stairs. Many LDS feel good
about keeping the Word of Wisdom, but don't care if they are overweight.
Having a gym membership is looked upon more as fun than being a priority.
People play sports only on weekends, time permitting.
@patriotThat description you gave of Mexican restaurants is pretty
representative of what I've seen as well. How exactly that relates to
Mexico's obesity problem is hard to figure out. If you think what is
served in Mexican restaurants in the United States is what is standard fare for
people in Mexico on a regular basis, that is just flat out ignorance.I lived in Mexico for two years while on a LDS mission. I never once saw the
kinds of food and quantities you are describing, served to either myself or the
families I ate with (and I ate with average families every single day). I ate a
lot of rice, beans, eggs, tortillas, salsas, and some beef. Rarely was anything
smothered in cheese or sour cream.In fact, what I was beginning to
see was a lot of Mexicans going to restaurants like, McDonald's, KFC, Pizza
Hut, etc.- high calorie, high fat meals that originated in the U.S.
