There are lessons in life that only God knows. I believe your daughters came to
this earth to bring measures needed to protect others. They will be remembered
always for changing the laws governing officials using electronics. A huge,
huge, law that will impact and protect those they hope to serve. Be proud of
what has been accomplished by your beautiful girls. Nothing was lost, their
lives have meant so many more will live.
Similar accident occurred on heavily traveled River Road in St. George a couple
of years ago. Two women were killed when their automobile was slammed into by a
policeman speeding on this busy road. The policeman was traveling over 100 MPH.
No one discussed whether or not this officer was on a cell phone. No one
discussed if any disciplinary action was taken, either.Of course, Police
need to arrive at the scene of an accident as promptly as possible, but to
destroy other lives while getting there...
What a terrible tragedy and all because a policeman was not obeying the law. I
hope he has learned something from this and that in his personal life he will
not carry on these careless and dangerous habits. Their decisions with him were
wise and hopefully for our sake he will never be in that position again but will
keep the death of these innocent girls constantly in his mind and stay off the
phone while driving. Time will tell...........
Schlau said she understands the importance of technology on the job, “but
there’s a time and a place when you have to put that technology aside and
concentrate on the wheel between your hands."Amen! Those that
are in powerful positions, such as emergency responders, think they can have it
both ways. Please! Please know that we are all human, and cannot multi-task as
thought. Driving requires so many senses. Use the brain. Use it wisely. The rest of the public also needs to put both hands on the wheel and focus
their attention. Don't think it will happen to you? Think again. These
girls probably never thought it would happen to them. All because someone else
didn't think it would happen to him.
