Yep, Bem there done that I got the thing, it's in storage.
I totally remember the hard-sell. I did buy the "tank" (aka vacuum),
but got the huge guilt trip for not buying all the fancy add-ons they were
selling too. I love it the vacuum, but if I had it to do over again, I
wouldn't...it was way too expensive.
Very funny Steve, but kinda sad too imagining this "salesman" doing all
this to your family. I kinda would have liked a paragraph or two on the
contrarian answers you gave him...that could have been hilarious!
I had one of these guys come by a few years back. I'm their worst
nightmare. I teach math and if I've never done an analysis with their
product, I say to them. "OK...let's figure out if this is worth
it." Then I pull up an Excel Spreadsheet and start crunching numbers,
looking up their assertions online, etc. I tell them I'm going to figure
out the costs, then take interest into account to see how much I would have if I
just invested the money, figure out average costs and how long average
alternatives costs, etc. I make them spend longer, way longer, while I simply
am developing a lesson plan for my class. hehehe.. For example, for new siding
on my house, I found out that it would take me like 18 years to recoup the loss.
Not worth it in my opinion since average American moves every 7. But... my analysis of the vacuum was the one time ever that it worked out well
mathematically. I bought it. Nearly 10 years later, I've made up the
difference (over buying cheaper Walmart ones that break every few years which is
what we were doing before).
