He'll probably make a decent career playing ball in Europe.
    Good luck....

Bummer, had really hoped he'd go late. Good luck as a free agent.

    June 28, 2013 7:03 a.m.

7 players drafted from the PAC-12, 4 from the MWC, 1 from the WCC and 1 from the WAC.

    Interesting

    LOL

    Knew it.

WCC players aren't in too high of demand

  • rph Arlington, VA
    June 28, 2013 8:56 a.m.

Good point Chris B. How many Utes were drafted this year?

  • Howard S. Taylorsville, UT
    June 28, 2013 9:12 a.m.

Maybe Davies and Jimmer can go and dominate the all European mission league.

  • Chris B Salt Lake City, UT
    June 28, 2013 9:13 a.m.

Hey why did Sacrament draft a shooting guard in the first round?!

Don't they know the best player to play at byu in 30 years is there, and HE'S a shooting guard?

    @rph,

silly question. Every program has down years. Let's look at our programs the past 20, 30 years.

    Height of byu's program?

    A single sweet 16 appearance.

Best player in 30 years at byu couldn't even get an overall winning record in the dance!

    Utah?

Many sweet 16 appearances, title game appearance, several NBA players who actually played for many years

    LOL!

  • rph Arlington, VA
    June 28, 2013 9:35 a.m.

@Chris B, a down year? It's starting to look like a down decade, dude. What have you done for me lately?

  • Chris B Salt Lake City, UT
    June 28, 2013 9:49 a.m.

    @rph,

    yes, a down decade agreed.

Congratulations on your best decade ever, which you've just left.

It ended with a single sweet 16 trip!

And the player of the year riding the bench

    LOL

    How embarrassing.

    We all have down years/decades.

The difference is how high you get on your good years/decades.

    Utah? Final fours

    byu Sweet 16 - once.

    LOL!

  • Howard S. Taylorsville, UT
    June 28, 2013 9:49 a.m.

    @rph

    Lately?

As one considers the legacy of BYU b-ball the question may be asked.... what have you done for me.... ever?

    One elite eight... ever.... phhhhht.

How pathetic are these ute fans and their desperate need to bash these young men for their hard work and dreams, simply to make their pathetic adult life seem better?

  • rph Arlington, VA
    June 28, 2013 10:43 a.m.

Wow, you guys are hilarious. Everybody understands how awesome the Utes were in the 1990s. But to talk trash about that now, I mean, come on, really? Your team stinks, and has, for several years. Call us when you can win a few more games, m'kay?

  • Howard S. Taylorsville, UT
    June 28, 2013 10:50 a.m.

    @Max-was-right

Yeah... because Cougar Nation would never dream of bashing Ute players for their hard work and dreams.

  • Chris B Salt Lake City, UT
    June 28, 2013 10:51 a.m.

    @Max,

We're bashing not the young men, we're making fun of the fans who believe their teams are good programs!

    LOL.

I rarely make fun of Utah State because they know their place. They have decent teams in both football and basketball and ocassionally a good team. Never a great team. A great team is a team in serious contention for a national championship.

At its peak, byu has good teams
At its peak, usu has good teams
At its peak, Utah has GREAT teams(see final fours, BCS Games, undefeated seasons,...)

Try having an attitude more like Aggies, since you're just like them.

    We're above you.

The sooner you learn it the better.

    Chris B and Howard S

I was greatly amused at your comments, in fact most of us LOL. Your PAC-thetic Utes are near or at the bottom in overall sports and yet you are so delusional you post as if your PAC-thetics are at the top.

Reality is the Utes have done nothing in the PAC and will do nothing in the PAC for the foreseeable future. The PAC-thetic Utes are so far at the bottom one would need a backhoe to dig them out of the basement.

Say hi to the wizard the next time you see him, which I surmise from your comments, is on a rather regular basis.

  • Howard S. Taylorsville, UT
    June 28, 2013 11:57 a.m.

    @MacNasty

Of course BYU would do much better against PAC12 competition on week in week out basis...

Even though BYU has proven themselves to be Mid-major monsters (winning an impressive 80%).... but BCS busts with a lackluster 46% record.

Play a BCS schedule week in and week out before mocking another teams record against a steady diet of 1st tier competition.

Brandon did his whole career the right way. Proud of him and wish him success no matter where he ends up.

    GO UTES!!

  • UTforreal Riverton, UT
    June 28, 2013 12:52 p.m.

Agree with Wookie. Brandon had a great career at the Y and hopefully he can get a chance to have some success at the next level. No reason to root against him now that he doesn't play the Utes.

    Chris B:
"A great team is a team in serious contention for a national championship".

At it's peak BYU won a national championship.
    At it's peak Utah didn't.

BYU has GREAT teams (see All Americans, Heisman Trophies, Doak Walkers, Davey Obriens, Naismith POY, national championships, 23 conference championships, top 25 finishes, legacy dynasties....)
Utah had 2 good teams (2 BCS games, but they look real nice in a bridesmaid dress lol).

BYU is above Utah in any relevant historical discussion, but your delusional insistence otherwise is certainly entertaining.
P.S. stop saying "we're" above you, and "we" did this or that. YOU did nothing and were no part of it.

    Howie:
"Even though BYU has proven themselves to be Mid-major monsters (winning an impressive 80%)"

While Utah has proven themselves to be midmajor pee wees playing the same schedule through the years with nothing even remotely close to BYUs successes. 2 WAC championships? Must be embarrassing to have so little success regardless of your SOS.

At times Brandon played like a first rounder and then sometimes disappeared.
On the whole, I enjoyed his basketball career as well as his growth in other areas.

  • Howard S. Taylorsville, UT
    June 28, 2013 1:38 p.m.

    @Cougsndawgs

    BYU success?

BYU successes all come against mid-major competition... so BYU remains on the outside looking in on big boy football.

No real conference really cares about BYU and its "success".

  • MacNasty Rexburg, ID
    June 28, 2013 1:50 p.m.

    Howard S

Your PAC-thetic Utes have only had 5 final poll rankings in its entire history, no national championship, little or no national awards or hall-of-famers.

Even your much boasted about #2 place finish was not consensus (AP #2, Coaches #4). Your trophy case, excepting a couple of trophies, is filled with dust.

Once again, the Utes have proven to be at best a mid-major in the overall sports performance.

Remind, us please, is it BYU or Utah that has won the director's cup for the last 20 years or so?

  • dumprake Washington, UT

I said it all along, Davies will not get drafted and has no future in the NBA. I hate to be so blunt, but he is too dumb to play in the NBA...and he can't shoot. Anybody who gets into early foul trouble every single game...and can't shoot, will never make it in the NBA. But I wish him well, he can probably make a living playing in Europe.

    Howard s

Wow, so now that you're in "big boy football" you're making excuses on why the u does so poorly?

wouldn't that be the exact proof one needs to show that u shouldn't be there?

With your success in the PAC 11+u the results speak for themselves. You don't belong there either. Never did.

  • deth Orem, UT
    June 28, 2013 2:38 p.m.

Looks like he'll be playing with the Clippers in the summer league. Regardless of what happens with the NBA, he'll have a career playing basketball, which is cool. Good luck Brandon.

  • Chris B Salt Lake City, UT
    June 28, 2013 3:35 p.m.

    @stuffo

"You don't belong there either. Never did."

The Pac 12 disagrees with you.

We(The Pac 12) also disagree that byu SHOULD be in a prestigious league.

    LOL!

And all the cobwebs in Utah's trophy cases were formed while U played midmajor competition as well.

  • LonestarRunner Salt Lake City, UT

    Chris B

Utah basketball is nothing but a washed-up has been; a dusty relic of a by-gone era.

    During the Dave Rose era:

BYU 209-66(76%), 6 NCAAs, 2 NITs, 8 20+ win seasons, 4 conf championships, consensus POY
Utah 116-137(46%), 1 NCAA, 6 losing seasons, 1 conf championship

BYU is 4-6 in the NCAA, 3-2 in the NIT
Utah is 0-1 in the NCAA

The Utes haven't even sniffed an NCAA win since the last remnants of the Majerus era left Utah.

oh, and in that all-important head-to-head comparison that Utah fans claim as unequivocal "proof" of Utah's recent domination in football

    BYU 7 in a row, 11 of the last 12, 149-145 overall

The Utes haven't beaten the Cougars since an OT win in the HC on Jan 27, 2009.

    ---------

As far as Brandon is concerned; it's sometimes better to be a free agent than to be drafted in the 2nd round. He's already signed with the Clippers to play in the Summer League.

@Chris B, a down year? It's starting to look like a down decade, dude. What have you done for me lately?

    ---------

True, but we still made ONE sweet 16 (same as BYU) and had #1 draft pick who is still playing as NBA starter. And that's what BYU defines as success?

Jimmer still has a chance to prove himself, but I don't think Davis was an NBA type player.

"[W]e're making fun of the fans who believe their teams are good programs!"

I have to agree with Chris B on this one. It's the same ol'e song and dance every year when it comes to byu. The local media has been getting byu fans hyped up for weeks on Davies only to see him flame out. It's fun to watch.

I wish Davies the very best. He seems like a great kid and frankly, I expect to seem him become a solid player in the NBA. Unlike Fredette, Davies is never selfish with the ball and does not consider himself bigger than his team. He will go far in basketball and in life.

Though I had wished I would have been wrong I am not surprised at this outcome. When Brandon played well it was great and when he didn't BYU lost some critical games.

His inconsistent play absolutely frustrated me and several others.

Maybe Europe is the answer, I don't know, but I wish him all the best in the world as he considers the options ahead of him.

    Howard S,
SC, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, ND, Ohio State and a long list of other teams play a "steady diet of 1st tier competition" and manage winning records. On the other hand u play that the same schedule and show up weak in and weak out.
    Chris B...
rarely makes fun of Utah State "because they know their place." Really Chris?

  • FelisConcolor North Salt Lake, UT
    June 29, 2013 7:29 a.m.

It's no wonder Chris would rather talk about past glory when it comes to Ute basketball: For the last 7-8 years, the Ute program has been in a free-fall.

They can't beat their biggest rival, they are stuck in the PAC-12 basement, and they haven't sniffed a post-season tournament since 2009. They even stopped scheduling Weber State and Utah State because they didn't want to get embarrassed by "lesser" teams (Weber State won 80-51 in 2011). Still didn't help their record.

We hear a lot of smack about BYU's 3-5 record against the Utes during the Bronco era, but not much about Dave Rose's 12-3 record against Huntsman Junior High during that same time. Using the ChrisB/NavalVet/HoweirdS line of reasoning when it comes to comparing the two football programs, the BYU-Utah record in basketball is a clear sign that Utah's glory days are forever over, and BYU is the program on the rise to national prominence.

    @ Howie,

"...BYU successes all come against mid-major competition... so BYU remains on the outside looking in on big boy football.

No real conference really cares about BYU and its "success"."

Are you serious dude? BYU's achievements were earned at the same time you were in the same conference. If the tables were turned and you were the one with the awards and trophies, would you still thumb your nose at those and disregard them because you earned them against mid major competition as you like to call them now? I doubt it very highly. And because you couldn't do it when you competed in the same conference, you're trying your very best to mock, belittle, and demean BYU for those accomplishments. Glad you're now in the conference of champions. Now please do something to earn your place in it.

Go Davies! Wish you much success whether in the NBA or in Europe!!!
