This is interesting but I'm left scratching my head and wondering what the point of the article is...

I suspect that Hamblin and Peterson were trying to inform their readers about something they found interesting and thought their readers might also find interesting. Knowledge is a good thing in itself, so I'm not absolutely sure that anything else is needed to justify the column (though there might be other reasons for it, too).

As for "Red Corvette": The authors also didn't claim that it -- what is "it," by the way? -- is a Japanese tea ceremony or a defective pocket watch. What prompted your comment?

RE: In this regard, Jacob’s vision of the “ladder” (Hebrew “sullam”) or, better, “stairway” into heaven (Genesis 28:10-22).

Jesus is the true ladder or stairway to heaven. Jesus opens the way for each of us to "ascend to heaven" and to bring "heaven to earth" in the daily circumstances of our lives

Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.” John 1:51
