My family sold a house in Utah county in 2000. A small older (1950)900 sq foot
home. All the real estate agent brought by was minorities. We had several non
minority friends that were interested, and after the home was sold, we asked
them why they never made an offer. We were told that they were never called by
the agent, and their phone numbers were not returned. Make of it
what you will, but I saw block busting in the 60's.
Yea it happens all the time. Real estate agents turn away potential customers?!
Get me the number of an agent that turned away potential customers for a
NON-ECONOMIC reasons. This is the dumbest thing. Read Thomas Sowell's
book "Economic Facts and Fallacies". Remember how the banks were
accused of lending discrimination that led the politicians to create policies
that led the the housing market crash? Those were unfounded lies because some
smart person was sure it was going on. Yea, banks turn down money all the time
too!? Yea, a stupid thought.
I would like to see the numbers from the study and how they came to this
conclusion. If you approach someone and tell them your price range
and what you are looking for, and that's what they look for, for
you....then that's not discrimination. If you're an illegal that
limits your options and if you are an illegal then you shouldn't be allowed
to have a loan or to purchase property to begin with (amazing that they can buy
property, rent, start up businesses or churches yet they won't pay taxes
and still get tax credit for lying about their income).Show me the
study first before calling everything discrimination. It's in the interest
of most businesses to turn a profit. They could care less what you look like, as
long as you pay the bills.
A friend was looking to lease a house. They had the deal almost done. The
subject turned to religion and it came out that she was LDS. The deal
immediately fell through. There was no financial reason not to consummate the
deal. Why did the owner back out? It seems almost certain it was due to
religious discrimination.Do people still do discriminatory things?
Yes. Do they do so against their financial interests? Yes.
