The 2nd term curse, which has been well documented by the article, is why I
think it would be a good idea for a President to be elected to one 6 year term.
That way he would not be spending so much time running for re-election, and
still have quite a bit of time to get things done. I think I'd vote today
for a President if he said he would serve one term and then leave. The Chief
Executive really needs to be in the office (Oval that is) and have meetings, and
work there in D.C. to even come close to dealing with his responsibilities.
This President, especially, seems to dislike the White House as a place to be.
Being on the campaign trail is not doing the job he was hired for. If we could
take the re-election pressure off of a President, maybe the job would be done
better than it has been for a long time.
At first glance, I thought the headline for this article read Curse the second
term of Obama.
Obama had it coming. His administration has been weak on the Constitution, human
amd civil rights. Now they've crossed the line. I am not surprised. If
Republicans return to power my advice to them is not to become arrogant. The
Tom Delay, the Newt Gingrich and Karl Rove types can mess things up just as well
as the Eric Holder, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid types.
If removing the pressure to be reelected is a good thing, then 2nd presidential
terms should be smoother and more problem-free, right? In any case, Obama's
2nd term is less than six months old, and the "scandals" getting all the
attention will soon be forgotten when they fail to bump up the GOP poll
