    ekute,

There is an NIT in college baseball. However, would the Utes even qualify for it? I don't think so. Perhaps it'll happen when the University of Utah's athletic department is better developed beyond just football (when they qualify for a bowl game in the near future) or gymnastics. BYU has made incredible improvement in baseball (32-21) compared to its immediate neighbor to the North (20-30). Oops!

    @ norcal

While playing against a SOS nearly 3 times weaker. This validates what I've been saying regarding byu facing an opposing team's best pitching.

Regarding football, during this current BCS Era, both schools have reached 11 bowl games. UTAH is 10-1 and byu is 6-5. Missing 1 bowl game by 1 game for the 1st time since '02 hardly makes it a trend. Not to mention doing so against a significantly more difficult SOS and beating byu for the 3rd consecutive year, 4 of 5, 8 of 11 and moving our overall dominance of byu to 56-34-4.

Good thing byu scheduled Weber State, Hawaii, Idaho and NMSU, in order to ensure they qualified for their 3rd-Tier bowl game!!

"Missing 1 bowl game by 1 game for the 1st time since '02 hardly makes it a trend."

Sure it is, especially when you consider that you're in a new conference and all things past do not count anymore. Your clock was reset two years ago and your conference showing IS getting worse.

I'm getting tired of SOS excuses. That's all U guys whine about.

Tom Holmoe stated it would take two years to get the schedule worked out. It's taken care of.

I'm curious to what it takes to lose to Colorado? Was that a team with a winning record or did SOS have anything to do with that loss?

Hurrah for BYU baseball, 2013, proud of how team improved over last years...5-4 win over Utah was great fun to watch in person, look forward to future of baseball at BYU.

USD owns byU in baseball and basketball, and...

    Utah owns byU in football.

How do them 2 statements blow my credibility?

What makes me smile and question credibility is the arrogance and hypocrisy of the byU fans that can never admit defeat on the field, but instead go off into some wild spin about stats and records...and we have better facilities and higher standards...and it was the refs...and we beat ourselves...and the honor code...da da da...lol.

The reality here is that you can take the name byU (very childish name calling by the way) and insert Utah in it's place and except for the honor code, which Utah has none, is perfectly valid statement.

Why is a Utah fan even commenting on a BYU baseball and tossing in the sports of football and basketball? Utah had very poor football and basketball seasons. Very strange that ekute would even bring up these sports. Coach W would have loved to have taken his football team to the San Diego bowl game. Ditto for Coach K and the NIT. Baseball was even more disappointing for the Utes than the other two sports.

I guess my questions for eKute is your dislike,of BYU even stronger than your love for Utah athletics?

Wasn't this during the same season UTAH destroyed byu on their homefield, 54-10? Imagine what CU would've done to byu then.

    ekute,

I figured you could make out the logic of my comment... But, since you can't let me help you...

Utah has been manhandled by the Cougs in Basketball for the past 7 years and in Baseball again this year... Yet you think you have license as a U fan to demean the Cougs programs... You don't... When you get whipped by the team you criticize on the Court and on the field you look foolish when you take shots at them... The point is, however good or bad BYU is , Utah has shown themselves to be much worse... So why criticize?

A side note, since this is a Baseball story, the team you slam (BYU) took care of one of your League's premier teams on their home field just this week...

That's what I mean when I say you are simply hurting your credibility...

Btw, your friend from AZ could learn a little bit from this discussion.

You guys have been fortunate in 2 of the last 3 wins against BYU in Football... I think that luck ends this year... Truth is Utah's only dominance over BYU exists in Gymnastics.

    @ AZUTE,

So how did Utah do against USU last year? And, then how did BYU do against them?

Oh, and why did Utah avoid scheduling USU this year??? And then how is it that when BYU schedules teams like Weber State and New Mexico State that they are are "padding" their schedule, but it is not "padding" the schedule when Utah schedules Weber State, Northern Colorado, or Montana State???

Best case for you is that these comments are foolish and the worst case is that they are Hypocritical...

    @poyman

Truth is, byu is lucky they're not 0-12 vs Utah football since Lavell left.

Oh, did I forget to say that some of byu's fans are self-righteous and arrogant?

What did you learn from this discussion?

    Go Utes.

@ekute "USD owns byU in baseball and basketball"

Lol, bro, EVERYBODY owns Utah in baseball and basketball.

Also, U said this: "Truth is, byu is lucky they're not 0-12 vs Utah football since Lavell left."

And then U said this: "Oh, did I forget to say that some of byu's fans are self-righteous and arrogant?"

Anyone else see the irony in that statement? Good ol' Ute fans...we can always count on them for hypocrisy.

@AZUTE1 "Wasn't this during the same season UTAH destroyed byu on their homefield, 54-10? Imagine what CU would've done to byu then."

Yes, the fact that BYU got blown out by a Utah team that lost to Colorado is pathetic.

The fact that the only thing Utah 'fans' have to hang their hat on over the last few years (and the only thing they care about) is beating BYU, and then come onto BYU baseball articles to talk about it is even more pathetic.

Good ol' Utah fans...always good for a laugh.

Great season, BYU! 3rd place finish in the WCC after being pick to finish last, winning record against ranked opponents...Coach Littlewood's done a great job.

    Go Cougars!

    Here's the difference--

UTAH scheduled Montana State in 2011, Northern Colorado in 2012 [which beat Weber State in Ogden] and Weber State in 2013.

In 2011, byu played Idaho State, Idaho, NMSU and Hawaii.

In 2012, byu played Weber State, Hawaii, Idaho and NMSU.

Clearly, you're talking apples-and-oranges when comparing the two. The respective SOS' are night-and-day.

    Lol!

@AZUTE1 "byu failed to qualify for the post-season. Outstanding news!!!!"

Actually, what IS outstanding news is that BYU overachieved this season. Picked to finish last in the WCC this year, BYU went 32-21 with a 5-4 record over ranked teams, a 3rd place finish in the WCC, and a semifinal appearance in the tournament.

What a great time to be a Cougar! Another bowl win for the football team, a final four berth in the NIT, a national championship in rugby, national runner-up in volleyball, great showings once again from our track and cross country teams, finishing 8th in the NCAA Regionals and ending up 3 strokes short of getting a shot at the NCAA championship in golf, our softball team winning the WCC and making the NCAA tournament...

No wonder the trolls are out in force. Utah hasn't done anything this year of any significance...except finally move out of their trailer-park football facilities.

That is an amazing accomplishment :)

    Go Cougars!

The NCAA Tournament parings were announced this morning.
BYU was 4 and 7 against teams that made it into the tourney.
2 and 7 on the road against tourney teams.
5 losses against San Diego, 2 in the WCC Tournament nailed the NCAA Tournament door shut.
Brugman, Law and Hanneman will be difficult to replace.

  • anti BCS Anaheim, CA

    AZUTE1

In baseball, BYU is 233-109-2 lifetime versus Utah. In almost 50 years, the Utes never won a WAC or MWC baseball championship, and it's a near lead-pipe cinch, the Utes will never win a PAC baseball championship.

It's laughable that a Utah fan would even try to compare Utah baseball to BYU baseball. Even during a relatively quiet period for BYU baseball, the Cougars have dominated the Utes. Finishing at the bottom of the PAC year-after-year-after-year doesn't prove anything.

    --------------

In basketball, BYU is 129-125 lifetime versus Utah, including 7 in a row, and 11 of the last 12. Overall record during the Dave Rose era: BYU 209-66(76%); Utah 116-137(46%). Utah's baskekball glory days are over. The Utes are 0-1 in the NCAA since Bogut graduated.

    Billy Budd

It's hilarious that a Utah fan is suddenly so obsessed with BYU baseball.

Remind us again how Utah did this year, or are you too embarrassed to provide a similar summary for the Utes?

What was Utah's record against teams that made it into the tourney?
How did Utah do on the road against tourney teams?
How long has the door been nailed shut on Utah's NCAA tourney chances?
Does Utah have ANYBODY coming back next year even remotely equivalent to Brugman, Law and Hanneman?

    @ekute

Wow...talk about "frantic and emotional" spin there, lol!

Let me show you Utah's 'accomplishments' this last year (no spin here, nothing out of context, just straight facts):

    Utah Athletic Year in Review

Football: Finished 9th in the PAC, losing record, no postseason (two sidenotes: Star safety Brian Blechen suspended three games for multiple failed drug tests for marijuana. Niasi Leota dismissed from the team for assaulting his wife)
Basketball: Finished 10th in the PAC, losing record, no postseason.
Baseball: Finished 12th in the PAC, losing record, no postseason.
Softball: Finished 9th (last) in the PAC, losing record, no postseason
Rugby: Program suspended indefinitely after members of team became intoxicated on a school sanctioned trip and assaulted an athletic trainer
Swimming: Fired head coach after he was charged with sexual assault, AD Chris Hill under investigation for knowing about this and other accusations of abuse and doing nothing.

I have no idea if Utah even has golf, track and field, or cross country teams.

Regardless, wow, that's a heck of a year for Utah.

No wonder you and AZUTE1 are here on BYU's boards showing your support. It must be hard to support Utah right now.

Tennis: Finished 7th of 8, 13-12 record, no postseason

Only the women have Track & Field and Cross Country
