Never had Phil as a coach because he was ahead of me at Tooele High School where
I coached back in the '60's, but, as they say, "the apple
doesn't fall far from the tree," and we who lived in Tooele remember
his Dad who gave his all to help the programs at the Buffalo school. This story
sounds like it could have been written about his Dad and Mom. Thanks, Phil, for helping others see the importance and value of dedicated
teachers and coaches. Contrary to the criticism that has been heard lately of
those who have been accused of doing the wrong things, it's good to look at
a shining example of the right things.
There is one word to describe Phil Russell "class". Thanks Phil for all
you have done for kids, coaches, and others that have competed for and against
With all the negative stories about coaches in the media lately this is truly a
breath of fresh air. Coaches can be so inspiring to young people if they do it
right! Sounds like Coach Russell did it right!
Phil is one of the finest men I know. I had him as a teacher, and was able to
work under him while he was the athletic director. What a blessing it has been
to get to know him and observe his positive interactions with kids. Phil will be
missed at Ogden high... But I have a feeling he will still be hanging out quite
a bit at Ogden High!
