I would argue that Star Trek Insurrection was better than Generations was. It
was a lot more entertaining and a lot less campy. It held a lot closer to the
tone and style of the series than did Generations.
The local Star Trek fan clubs with the Seventh Fleet will be promoting the new
Star Trek film up and down the Wasatch Front. The USS Kelly and SS White
Buffalo will be at the jordan Commons in Sandy. The USS Ursa Major will be at
the Valley Fair Mall Megaplex. The USS Essex will be at the Legacy Crossing in
Centerville. The USS Ticonderoga will be at The Junction in Ogden. We are even
in Idaho with the USS Atlantis at the Century Cinema in Burley.
In the mid-70s BYU had its own "Star Trek" Club. I'm embarassed to
admit I was interested in joining. But, after sitting through a club meeting I
couldn't convince myself to join. My Ute Cousins would agree: While
Trekkies are a different breed. BYU Trekkies are a different species altogether.
Seeing them wear their Starfleet uniforms on campus on Thursdays, I recall
Kirk's episodic command of setting Phasers on NUMB. Prehaps that was why
BYU was a calderon of social rest in the 70s.
