"I felt trapped after (one of the first sex acts)," the alleged victim
testified. "I felt no one else would ever want me."....========== Wasn't this the same thing Elizabeth Smart said
last week about victims of sexual abuse? The old "ABC [
Already-Been-Chewed] gum" analogy that is just plain WRONG?!It's teaching like this that are counter-productive and make young girls
feel like trash and giving up!
Open Minded Mormon: The Church does NOT teach that. Individuals just feel that
way because that's how sexual abuse makes one feel. Intimacy is so
personal and abusive intimacy is so damaging. That's why one feels
worthless. It isn't true and the Church does not teach that it is.
Given the legal penalties, its hard to understand why teachers keep falling for
their students. There are plenty of ways to meet women (and guys) online and

Yet another example of the vulnerability of girls and women in most societies -
no safe place for them. What is to be done?
She's an awesome girl!! Kudos to her bravery!!!!
It doesn't matter if the person is LDS or not that harmed this girl. What
does matter is that this person needs to be held accountable for his actions and
that this girl can feel free from the oppression that he has caused to be placed
upon her. Every person who harms even a hair on the head of a child shall
be accountable to the laws of the land, and/or to the laws of heaven. I'm just glad this girl had courage and strength to come forward and tell
about how evil this guy's behavior was. Being a person in the authority
position gave him a leverage to get what he "wanted", but he will get
what he doesn't want in the end.
I'm sorry but if your daughter had a 30 something man asking about marriage
wouldn't you slightly freak out and look into things very very closely? I
would keep my daughter as far away as possible from this person.
"re: another perspectiveYes, some teachers target kids... BUT... with
the world we live in (TV, Radio, Pop Culture, etc...) Many students target
teachers!!!"A more appropriate title for the above post might be
"a disgusting perspective."In the student/teacher relationship,
the teacher is expected to be an adult and act accordingly. To imply that
children are responsible for inappropriate relationships with adults is
repulsive and irresponsible. In the eyes of the law children are incapable
of giving consent. By definition they are victims when they are caught up in
sexual relationships with adults. Adults who feel they can't resist
the "targeting" of youngsters need to seek therapy.
Tyler D,- 48% of first born children are born out of wedlock, with
that number higher with mothers under thirty- More than 50% of marriages
end in divorce- Divorce is the leading cause of poverty in the U.S.-
In 1970 85% of children lived in two parent homes. In 2004, 70% did- Only
61% of children live with both birth parents- More than 25% of Americans
have genital herpes, with that number increasing- Nearly 20 million new
STD infections occur in the US each year -- half among the nation's
youth- There are currently more than 110 million sexually transmitted
infections in the US. These infections can cause anything from discomfort to
cancer and death. Which of those statistics are not disturbing to
you? Which are not evidence of moral decay? Are you naive, disingenuous, or do
you have an agenda?
I applaud the incredible courage this young woman demonstrated in coming
forward. I'm also glad that her bishop knew immediately to involve the
It doesn't have to be just sexual abuse. It can be just abuse with threats
from the individual abuser that children don't understand the impact of the
threat. The individual had a knife or other item to show their power of the
threat. They know if they tell their parents, especially depending on the age
of the one abused, there will be some type of action taken, either their death
or the parent's will be dead. These children don't want either action
to happen so they keep it inside of them for years. Their behavior isn't
normal for a child, even a teenager, that have normal problems, let along from
abuse. It's a shame that someone was able to get a teaching job at that
age and not have someone that knew this person come forward and tell of his
ability to influence children under his control. He developed his technique
over the years in a school environment where he was powerful, especially in a
private or charter school. He taught in schools somewhere and got around their
policies for a time but needed to move. Predators should not be
around children alone.
@Rational – “Which are not evidence of moral decay? Are you naive,
disingenuous, or do you have an agenda?”Hopefully I’m
none of those things…But if you read my 1st comment (hey,
where did it go?!!) it clearly states “In some respects we are (less
moral), but in many other areas… our moral intuitions are stronger than
ever.”I agree with much of what you said, but let’s
stack that up against the last few thousand or even few hundred years.War – used to be almost constant for just about every society, now, the
vast majority of us 7 billion+ people get along pretty well.Slavery
– used to be ubiquitous, now virtually gone.Women’s
Rights – half our species has more opportunity than ever.Environmental concern – virtually non-existent until relatively
recently, although one can argue this is because we now have the capacity to do
tremendous damage.Freedom/Liberty – now more than everDemocracy – almost unheard of (except ancient Greece) until our
founding.Empathy – gone from group/tribal to global relatively
recently.So I’d say relatively speaking we’re doing
There is no true Latter-day Saint who would not rather bury a son or a daughter

Re: LValfreI don't believe this girl lost her virtue. She may
have had her virginity stolen from her, but as soon as she turned to Christ and
had her sins washed away, she was virtuous once more. I think she will have one
very lucky young man marry her in the temple one day. Please don't quote
comments such as those to victims of sexual abuse/rape. I'm sure this girl
wishes every day that she could change what happened, forget it all, but she
can't, and God still loves her, just as much as any other innocent child. I
admire and applaud her strength to stand up in the face of so much manipulation
and abuse, and not allow it to happen to anyone else. You go girl!
