What about BYU punter Riley Stephenson?I am really surprised!
Stephenson was one of the best punters in college ball last year. Some pro team will be very happy to get him.
Heard Riley had signed with someone. Anybody know?
Never heard of this guy.Ever heard of Josh Hubner?
Did you miss that BYU's Braden Hansen signed with the Oakland Raiders?
Looks like that PAC membership didn't garner much respect for ute players!
Real Bass:What? The Utes had two taken in the draft (USU had two drafted
as well) and a boat load signed as free agents. Your jealousy continues to
shine forth, my friend. Byu...still on par with the mid-majors and always will
@ Real BassYou should go count up the number of free agent deals the
Utes signed vs. the Cougs. Looks like your team was again outdone.
I hope J White can score a deal with a team. He was a class act and hard worker
while at the U. Not to mention he carried the team on his back when we had no
QB. We easily would have lost 2-3 more games each year without him. He may be too small though for teams to be willing to take a chance on...
I don't see Dave Krugers name on the list. Anyone have any info on that?
This list is missing Dave Kruger - Browns, and DeVonte Christopher - Redskins.
How many of these players will have their lives ruined by brain damage due to
multiple concussions? I would never encourage a young man to take up this
The performance on the field is the only measure of success in the NFL. No
sense being catty with each other. Comments here (including mine) won't
You guys crack me up... My dad is stronger and bigger than your dad. LOL
Dave redshirted the 2008 Sugar Bowl winning season, so he never actually suited
up with his big brother Paul, but it looks like he could finally get that chance
now that the both of them will be headed to Cleveland. Way cool.Plus we get the OTHER Kruger back here in Philly. Go Eagles!GO UTES!!!
Oh so much attention from u bloggers for your "declining, mid-major, little
brother." Shouldn't you be concerned about who is and will continue to
be better than u in the pac12...oregon with 5 draft picks, 2 in the first round,
usc and ucla with 4 each. Even your designated rival tied u with 2 draft picks.
Don't look at free agent signings from the good pac teams. It will
depress you. I'm more familiar with SEC teams than with the pac. If you
are ever able to get to the top of the pac, you may get to see what real college
football is like. Better for your ego to stay focused on having three more free
agents than BYU.
From ESPN's list of BYU players who were eligible for the draft, these the
ones that haven't signed with a team or been invited to camp (at least
according to this article):O'neil Champbers (did you really
think he would be after basically not playing for the last two years?Eathyn ManumaleanaRiley Nelson (does he even count)Riley StephensonRussell Tialavea12 guys on the list, 1
drafted at #5, 5 signed to free agent deals, and 1 with a camp invite. That
leaves 3 of the 12 without an NFL invite thus far, and 2 more who really
shouldn't be on the list.I think BYU did pretty well for
@NevadaCougAnd don't forget than Eathyn was granted a medical
redshirt so he'll be back for another year!
I knew there was something I was forgetting about Eathyn. For some reason, I
thought it was a mistake to see his name on the potential draftees list. Now I
know why I was thinking that.
@cougar76You serious? Rome wasn't built in a day. Why such anymosity?
It's just a game. As a former Ute, it really is getting old to read the
negative nasty whining that goes both ways. I was very sceptical about the Pac
12 move, but I've come to feel a great deal of pride for what they're
accomplishing. What a great hill to have to climb. I'm sorry the system is
rigged, and the BCS conferences are ignorant to the vast and nationwide fan base
that the Y garnishes. If they could get beyond their own provincial ignorance,
they'd be blown away at the numbers that would follow, and you should feel
some pride in that. But to throw the darts with such venim does you little good
but satisfy that little demon inside. Cheer up, dude! You've got a great
school that did more to lift all of us to a level we never could have imagined.
I know my fellow Utes are a bit heathenistic and uncooth, but what you gonna do
about gentiles. Love em like the Lord does, and show a bit more class for
Several of the free agent signees from Utah were juniors. With a team that
really isn't as deep as other teams in the Pac-12, I am not sure it is a
good thing for the Utes to see so many players leave. BYU had Kyle Van Noy and
Cody Hoffman that could have done NFL but chose to stay and play. I think that
says a lot about a program that students are staying and playing their senior
years, where they could have done to the draft and done well. My thoughts...
ExecutorIoh: Several?? Who? Kruger was the only Junior to come out, and he
was drafted. And you forgot about Star. He stayed his senior year when he
would have been a sure first rounder last year. KVN and Hoffman would
definately NOT have been sure first rounders. It also says a lot about a
program when they could have had a great players, had them signed, but they
chose to go to the rival. Star, Jake Murphy and Davion Orphey has to hurt!!.
Maybe KVN and Hoffman didn't want to go in the draft this year
because they know the horrible reputation Roscoe has with getting players to the
NFL!! My thoughts.
ExecutorIoh, your thoughts exactly! Haha says a lot about a person's agenda
when they make claims before checking if they're true or not.
ExecutorIoh never said that Hoffman and Van Noy would be first round picks. He
just said they could have gone to the NFL, but chose to return. Although, with
the performance Van Noy gave in the bowl game, he might have had a shot at 1st
round, depending on how he did at the combine and/or the BYU pro day.Of course, those with agendas will now be claiming I said Van Noy would have
been the number one pick.
NV Coug - I never said he claimed that they would be first round draft picks, I
was contrasting the difference between the two and Star, who DEFINITELY would
have been a first rounder and chose to stay with his school and program. That
says a lot more about a program than players who would have been drafted, but
chose to stay to improve their draft status. Ex was the one who was stating
that them staying another year said a lot about the tds "program", I was
only pointing out the flaw in his logic.I don't know that much
about Hoffman, but KVN has a shot at having a stellar NFL career despite having
Roscoe as a coach.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. When you resort to name
calling, you just lost the argument.
Oh, please, my fellow posters: No one was "outdone". These athletes are
all individuals and would have excelled no matter where they played. Can we
just recognize their achievements and wish them well in the future? None of us
can take ANY credit for what they have accomplished so it matters little who we
support. Think about it.
