There is a price to be paid for breaking the rules.
And disease is not the dearest price. Promiscuity deprives non-consenting,
innocent children of a secure, stable home environment. It handicaps its
consenting participants with a growing inability to exercise self-discipline.
They end up being led around like slaves to every whiff of animal attraction
under the guise of free choice. That's not love.
Dear John C.C.: Your comment is excellent and absolutely correct. Promiscuity
destroys lives, families, generations and civlizations. It destoys the ability
to truly love. Living the law of chastity is the only way to true happiness.
It is possible to not break any rules oneself and get diseases from a cheating
spouse, so it's not all just deserts and righteous punishment of the
This is why education beyond abstinence is needed. Even if you are abstinent or
plan to be, you need to know enough to make sure that your eventual partner is
not infecting you will something. It is all great to say that there
are penalties for breaking the rules - but if your child were to slip once,
would you really want them saddled with something like this for the rest of
God gave us a grand design for human happiness = our family. Not all families
are perfect and the actions of one person can positively or negatively affect a
family. But no amount of happiness can compensate for the happiness that can be
found within a home filled with love. Imagine our Heavenly Father creating a
painting. It is vibrant, inspired, and it was made for the purpose of expressing
joy and fostering that happiness within others. People can make a copy of the
Mona Lisa and add a mustache, but then it's not the Mona Lisa anymore.
It's not the creation of DaVinci, the original painter.Like a
painting, the integrity of the family is vital to the cause of human happiness.
Through obedience to the family design we not only will obtain happiness that
lasts forever, but we will be free. Satan's captivity takes away freedom,
as evidenced by promiscuity, etc.CedariteIndeed,
innocent people suffer because of the wicked. Although, it's very important
to note that such suffering is still due to wickedness. Thankfully to our
Heavenly Father, the innocent (or even guilty through repentance) can still find
joy through the atonement.
Reading some of these comments, I'm wondering if we shouldn't go back
to scarlet A's....
Wow... Sure it is a fine fantasy of many that teaching abstinance is all that is
needed but it is not. Our society as a whole is a sexually active one and all
people, especially teens, need to be taught the risks of STD's , how to
talk about then and how to prevent them. Abstinance only is not the answer.
How about giving out the numbers. Percentages don't tell us much. Is it
an increase of 15 to 25?
Will the word "GROSS" get by the moderator? If so...this is GROSS.C'mon on people. We are not a bunch of animals. Homo Sapiens have
an outer cortex that allows them to discriminate and judge and control
actions.Have sex with your spouse. And if that is not in your moral
framework, then have sex with someone who is responsible and aware of their own
health. This disease may be uncurable but it is totally
JustAnotherBratI don't fantasize or imagine up some pretend
scenario where abstinence is the solution. It has been said that
promiscuity does not foster lasting happiness. But keeping intimacy between
husband and wife and abstinence are not the same thing. Promiscuity is the
highest cause of STD's and that is a objective and observable fact. It is
not a fantasy. The only fantasy is thinking that you can live a lifestyle and
not face the consequences of that decision. It's dangerous not only
physically, but spiritually and morally. Most people are not ignorant but
knowledgeable of such consequences. To knowingly do wrong will bring more misery
when consequences arrive.This isn't complicated. It isn't
unfair, cruel or misguided. It's true, just and designed for our benefit
and joy. We've all made decisions with painful consequences. From these we
learn wisdom and can live upright and happy lives or we can decide to remain in
a state of misery.Fidelity between husband and wife literally
prevents misery. I understand such choices can be hard, but nothing good will
come from resisting messages given peacefully that are designed to protect and
lift others to happiness.
Tilka, You can see the numbers of cases in the graph on the left hand side
of the article. Also in this part of the article "Cases began dropping
significantly, to 277 in 2011, before rising again to an estimated 480-490 in
2012." So we know there is about 500 cases in UT, assuming some weren't
reported or tested. I think this is a great article, and we should
be doing something to bring these numbers down. I feel a lot of people are
talking about 'only having sex with their spouse' BUT you have to
think of the single population, they're having a lot of unprotected sex. A
lot of drunken sex=bad decisions and ultimately disease transmission. I think it
starts with our youth, abstinence only, as great as it sounds, isn't
reality. We know kids are having sex at younger ages, and need CORRECT
information. Parents need to educate themselves so they can talk to their kids,
and schools need to GET ON BOARD with COMPREHENSIVE sexual health. Otherwise,
our numbers will continue to climb astronomically.
To "Tolstoy" if everybody abstained from sex until marriage, would there
be any concern about STD's? If you taught your children to abstain from
sex until marriage and to seek out a spouse who did the same, would you ever
have to worry about STDs?
I have no sympathy for people with AIDS/STD's when their own poor choices
have caused the outcome.Your choice. Deal with it
There is only one form of safe sex - with your spouse. Everything else is like
teaching safety while driving drunk. Note that most drunk driving trips ends
safely, that is perhaps the problem. That is why people drive drunk - most of
the time nothing bad happens. But if you want real safety, drive sober!
I'm sorry if anyone thought I was implying that innocent victims are
somehow sinned. I meant that innocent victims of wrong doing can still find joy
even though they've been hurt AND that even those who have hurt others can
find hope in the atonement, etc.MarilynnMoral truth
applies to everyone, married or not. I am not married yet I do not act on
impulse and sleep with everyone I meet as so many seem to nearly do. It is
comparable to no less than acting like an animal. There is no such thing as
"responsible irresponsibility". You can't teach a person who is
breaking the rules to 'break them in a way that they will never face
consequences'.People want statistics, numbers, evidence and
proof. Test the words of the Book of Mormon, keep the commandments, and see if
you are happier for it or not. Couples who do exactly that enjoy blessings of
happiness and a life free from the consequences of sin. Percentage of success =
100%There is no middle ground. You can't "kind of" get
STD's or "kind of" avoid them.100% keeping the
commandments = 100% Prevention.The truth is simple.
@ Redshirt: You are right - if everyone were perfect, this would not be an
issue - but since no one is perfect, this is just one of many issues humans have
to deal with.Humans sin - that was part of the consequence of the
result of the war in Heaven. Remember? But we were given knowledge
to overcome and prevent many of the worse consequences of sin - or do you not
believe that the Glory of God is intelligence?
There are no words to describe what I have read in the comments. It is as if the
commenters look down on the human race and sexuality with such disdain that they
somehow wish they weren't human. I wish there was someway to reach those of
you who demonstrate disgust for those whom you profess to love, but alas I think
the cause is already lost.We must educate our parents to pull their
collective heads out of the sand.
To "Tolstoy" do you teach your kids how to be the safest possible or
just sort of safe when entering dangerous situations? If you start with your
home and making it a better place, that influence can expand beyond your
house. That is the difference. Society has normalized the sort of
safe option while mocking and shunning the safest option. If we taught
abstinance and had more television shows glamorizing it, you would see a drop in
STDs and other societal problems that have grown with permiscuity.
