Missed free throws indicate perhaps lack of confidence of the players, fear of
missing causes missing those...noise was deafening at times, great crowd, fan
support...just even 13 of 19 charity makes & the Wildcats win CIT,
that's just 68 %...hope that improves next year...practice &
confidence. WSU team had a great year in ways that count.
Great season Wildcats!!! DesNews, why did I have to try so hard to find this
story? Why wasn't this on the home page? This story gets buried even on
the Sports page down the line from other inconsequential stories. You're
supposed to be a local newspaper. Very disappointed.
Truly incredible atmosphere at the Dee last night. Best (and loudest) crowd
I've ever seen at an indoor sporting event in Utah, and I've been to a
lot of them. The student section was amazing. If we had just made our free
throws, we'd be champs today. We didn't though, so give credit to
ECU. They are an incredible team.....way better than Montana. They are
athletic and attack the rim, and they shoot well. Still I'm proud of those
Wildcats and I'm proud of the fans. Everyone gave everything last night.
Sometimes it just doesn't bounce your way.
Totally agree with DRay there is a lack of confidence in most close games at the
free throw line. That and the Wildcats turn over the ball way too much. Sad,
but Weber State is a better team, I think than Montana and East Carolina but
didn't make the clutch plays down the stretch to prove it in the box score
during the championship games.I wholeheartedly agree with FatMan86.
It was an awesome atmosphere--(Ogden did itself proud on National TV)very fun
game, except for the ending. Watching the crowd rise to its feet to rally the
team several times was awesome. I am still very proud of the Wildcats--30 wins
is a big achievement. To battle that far in the CIT after losing out in the Big
Sky shows the character of the team. All the best to Bamforth and Otis on their
future endeavors.Being a Cubs fan has trained me to deal with those
heartaches--and now I get to focus on their season--oh boy--when do the Wildcats
tip off again? To the coaches, players and fans--thanks for a wonderful season!
I must raise my glass to you guys! THAT was a great game, put on by a great
university & fan base! We here @ ECU appreciate passionate fans, and I do
wish I could have made it out to Ogden for the game. We haven't had much
Basketball success to speak of, so this CIT win is pretty big down here.
I'd like to see us drop some of the D-II & D-III programs from our
schedule, and continue relationships with the CIT team such as Weber State. FUN
basketball! Just wanted to drop a note saying you fans certainly impress, and so
does WSU Basketball! Hope to see more games with WSU in the future! Cheers!
Has there been any discussion here about the 35 second clock operator being
removed from his job during Championship game? The referees made the call mid
game.I think someone called their attention to what was going on.The guy
then sat in stands. I thought he should be ejected from building. That's a
serious offense.Tinkering with that clock can make a difference in the game
easily.And it could be undetected.
@ENCPir8I was at the game, and it was possibly one of the most
entertaining games I have seen ever. A little less fun when your team
doesn't win, but I agree with you about the scheduling. I think Weber
State would do well to keep many of these CIT teams on the schedule. Other than
Montana, right now Weber State is just so far above everybody in the Big Sky
that they can lose a competitive edge after so many games of not being pushed.
A home-and-home with ECU, Northern Iowa, Oral Roberts, etc. would be a good
idea--not only for good basketball but so that Weber State can keep sharp.
Weber left the door open on too good a team--Congrats to ECU.@paintcan, I didn't notice it, but I wasn't impressed with the
quality of referees in the CIT overall, an Oral Roberts player took five steps
with the ball and spiked it, and nothing was called, and then there was the
obvious goal-tending ECU had in the last minutes. No excuses on the loss, just
saying the CIT should try and get better refs.
